Antichick, I was told that when it snowed years back in Chesapeake (near Norfolk) Va., people were so unaccustomed that they drove off the roadway and into ditches (no sewer system there at least at the time). It has snowed in Texas, y'know. Alaska? Really? I did major armchair travel there to the point that I had a mail subscription to the Sunday Anchorage paper for a few months. Because of the ad circulars, I mail-ordered moose cookie cutters from one Allen & Petersen (I think that was the name). You're from Alaska, which makes you exotic & a romantic heroine.

I was 8 when we left, and always said I wanted to move back. But I blew the one chance I had before I got married and had a kiddo with a Texan. Then I was stuck here until the custody agreement expired. At that point I'd married another die-hard Texan and developed auto-immune arthritis and lost my tolerance for the cold. So I guess I'm stuck here. LOL.

Methinks you've been indoctinated, given your screen name. (I've been curious about since first time I saw it and just googled. The Bush-Maines connection? Or is it really Antic Hick? Ha, I just saw that possibility.)

  3. Uploaded progress photos to my gallery last night. I still think I look like crap in a sports bra and bike shorts, but I am seeing a definite change. :)

Yeah... I'm down to the point that I have to hit a resale shop or something, Virtually every top I have is almost ridiculously huge. I'm lucky that I hung onto pants/jeans because I've always been AWFUL to fit in pants... VERY curvy with a HUGE difference between hips and waist, in addition to being tall. So I'm set probably until I get pretty close to goal for bottoms, but tops are much more of an issue than I'd thought they'd be. LOL. I HATE clothes shopping. But right now I have almost no clue what size I'm wearing or what will look good on me, so I guess it's to the shops I go. :D

      Djmohr

I am right there with you! Get well soon! I guess I can be thankful that I got it now and not a few days before my surgery in January. I have some time to recover. I hate being sick though and it happens so rarely these days. I think this might be the first cold I have had in 2.5 years since my surgery.

  7. I'm a BAAAAAD AntiChick. Just realized with the FREEZING FREAKING COLD today (Saturday started out at 72 and ended at 19, gotta love Texas) I haven't felt like drinking anything today except my protein shake. I'm going to get dehydrated and have yet another migraine if I don't down some fluids!!

@theantichick, First....don't talk to me about the cold. It has been in the negative temps here is Wisconsin but only after dumping about 10 inches of snow on us.

Secondly...I would really like to figure out why I am getting so many migraines. i too have been on a run for the last 6 weeks. I am using my Dihydroergotomine too often and its so expensive and hard to get that I wish it would stop. None of my usual stuff is working for me.

    3. theantichick

      theantichick

@Djmohr ... yeah, but you CHOSE to live in the Tundra. LOL. I grew up in Alaska. I used to miss the cold. Until I developed auto-immune arthritis. Now it can suck it. LOL. My abortive (Maxalt) works fine. I just need to get them to stop happening so often. I gave up and went back on Topamax, but we're just starting out at the low dosages now, so it'll take a while. Sigh.

  12. Officially off all BP meds, and PCP agreed I don't need to start migraine prevention just yet as the latest migraines were caused by dehydration (bad antichick, drink your water!!). So the medication count is dropping along with my weight, and she's very happy with the trend. I also get to keep my Mirena another year, yay!!

  14. Labs from last week came back... my vitamin levels are all good, and my protein indicator is acceptable, but could use to be higher, so need to focus more on protein. Rheumy labs came back with my markers slightly elevated, but not horrible. Overall, very good results.

I know it can make some people have discomfort/pain, but for me it works beautifully, and it really helps me get more fluids down.

  17. 3 month checkup yesterday, doc is pleased. Lost a little bit of muscle mass, need to get more serious about protein and exercise. Otherwise, things are going great. Waiting on labwork about vitamins.

I have auto-immune arthritis. I can't pull the foil seal off of the coffee creamer. LOL. I've had to have my family open bottles (pop top and screw top) for a couple of years now. I need to get some arthritis helper gadgets around the house, but part of me feels that's giving in. LOL

  18. Oh, and my hair is now falling out. Not enough to cause bald spots, but the shower drain and sink look like they're growing their own fur at this point. Yuck!! Hope that stops soon.

I'm pretty convinced it's inevitable and unstoppable. The amount of hair between my fingers, stuck to my back, all over my bathroom floor, clogging the drain, all over my pillow, car, carpets, coats...it's stunning. I check for thin spots very, very often :) On the positive side, my humongous head of hair is somewhat manageable these days!

    3. theantichick

      theantichick

yeah, I agree it happens or it doesn't. The supplements and stuff can't really change the underlying situation that the body is dealing with a trauma, and one way it does is to recycle hair and skin cells. It's more of a PITA with the drains than anything else. My daughter has Alopecia Totalis (entire scalp bald), currently in remission... so I know how bad it CAN get, and am just always grateful when it's not. LOL

like the OP mentioned mine fell out the most around month 3/4 thru month 8/9 (also when I lost the most).

its coming back, just got thinner at my temples and with the grey hair it seemed more obvious.

  19. My poor trainer. I did some research on weight training with auto-immune arthritis, and apparently you have to start REALLY FREAKING low. 5-10% of total body weight for upper body, 25% for lower. That meant I had to do lat pulldowns with #10 of weight. Felt like nothing at the time. Slightly sore this morning, but I'm not seeing an actual flare, so we might be on the right track now. Fingers crossed. I do NOT want to give up on working out.

    1. highfunctioningfatman

      highfunctioningfatman

It can be really tough. My wife has Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and Raynaud's disease. She's dealt with skin cancer, cervical cancer and a brain tumor since we've been married. Every time she finally starts losing weight she ends up with a flare and she has to go back on prednisone. My hat is off to you, I can see how difficult it really is for someone with autoimmune issues.

On a side note, have you looked into immunotherapy? As soon as we have the cash we will be heading back to Mexico for immunotherapy to cure her Lupus. The medicine base that she needs should be available again by the time that we have the money. Five thousand to cure her Lupus is the deal of a lifetime.

    2. theantichick

      theantichick

I'd need to know more about the treatment you're talking about. The current standard of therapy if DMARDs fail is also called immunotherapy, but it's not a cure, it's infusion of one or more biologic drugs. If you have info you can post or PM me, I'd happily look at it. Right now, we're using sulfasalazine and getting partial relief from it. I'm also very lucky in that I had a diagnosis very quickly comparatively speaking, and the diagnosis was made before any detectable damage was done to my joints. So we're working through the treatment protocols to get me the best relief as well as inflammatory suppression. We haven't maxed out sulfasalazine yet, if we do and need something else plaquenil is the next therapy to try, then if that failed we'd move to biologics.

  21. I thought I completely went off the rails for my birthday weekend. Didn't log anything, didn't drink a single protein shake, didn't go out of my way to get protein or whatever. Ate a few things that are not on plan, but found I only wanted a couple bites of them. Down 1# after the weekend, so it must not have been too horrible. Now it's Monday and I'm back on track. :)

I'll never see single digit clothing sizes. When I was my thinnest in college (which has never been a sustainable weight for me) I was in a 10 jean. I'll be happy to get back to a 16 and beyond thrilled to get to a 12-14.

  24. 50 lbs down. All of my work pants had to go. Got the skinny pile down, 1 pair fits now, and the other 10 will fit in 10-15 lbs. Guess I need to get those maxi skirts made!
