  1. Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I've posted anything but have a question about warm liquids. I have major restriction in the morning and eating anything solid would be a daunting task so I just have a Protein shake in the morning and maybe something like some pudding. I do notice that a warm liquid like coffee seems to ease my restriction and make it a little easier to eat. Does anyone else have that feeling? Also, I am at my limit regarding lap band fills due to a recent appointment with my doctor. He added .5cc's and when I swallowed barium under fluro, nothing went down and actually started coming back up. He took out .25cc's and my body allowed the liquid to go down my throat and past my band. My eating habits are a lot different than before and eating many solid foods is a daunting task until very late in the day. What is your typical menu each day? I'm thankful to all that will read my post and respond with their personal experiences. Take care!
  2. I was told the surgery would last about 45 minutes. I believe that is how long mine was but I don't remember the time when I woke up from the anesthesia. My surgery was scheduled for 9:30am and I was home by Noon. I hope this helps.

    How does it feel?

I have had 3 fills (my last one yesterday) and I am up to 5cc's in a 9cc band. My first two fills didn't restrict me at all as I could eat the same amount of food as I always have. Lucky for me I had some willpower and was still able to lose weight. Well, after my fill yesterday I felt fine but this morning I feel "different". I don't feel a tightness in my band (which is under my left boob) but I feel a dryness in the back of my throat and I feel as if I can't take a big gulp of any kind of liquid. It's hard to describe but I would love some feedback from others about how they feel being "restricted". I appreciate input from anyone. Thank you.

    How does it feel?

Well everyone, the "feelings" I had after my third fill have gone away and I am able to eat as I always have. Maybe the fourth time will be the one that makes a difference. Thanks for everyone's response.
  5. Hello everyone, I was banded on Thursday, April 3rd at 9:30am by Dr. Keith Gersin at CMC-Mercy in Charlotte NC!!!! I went home about Noon and slept like a baby with a dose of Oxycodone. I am sitting here on my computer today, drinking a Protein shake and looking at television. I am happy to report that I am no longer on pain meds as of yesterday and I am still working on getting rid of a cold I caught before surgery. I was fortunate enough to have no gas pain and have been able to eat soft foods with no nauseau or PB's. I look forward to relaxing for the next few days before going back to work. I am also excited about this step in my life that is all about me! Thanks to everyone on this site who has posted positive words and thoughts for those of us in the early stages of the journey. Take care!!

    I'm Banded!!!

Thanks for letting me know my sense of humor shines through in my words. I just called my co-workers to "torment" them that I am at home looking at tv and about to run errands since I am home and they are at work!!! Have an absolutely wonderful afternoon...I know I am

    I'm Banded!!!

I go back to work on Thursday and I enjoying being completely lazy! It's nice to call my co-workers and inform them I am about to take a nap in the middle of the day because I can! lol
  8. Eiramana, Welcome to the club! I was banded on Thursday of last week and I am doing good. I even had a cold on my surgery date and have been coughing and no complaints here about pain. I stopped taking pain meds on Saturday since I wasn't in a lot of pain and couldn't stay awake! lol Take care and enjoy the rest of the week. I know I will since I don't go back to work until Thursday! Woohoo!!!! Cheryl

    Scared

Hello. I can imagine your horror after reading so much from this site. I joined the site before my surgery and I was banded on Thursday, April 3rd. Keep in mind that everone's body reacts different and what happened to one patient doesn't always happen to another. It's important to be informed but no afraid of a procedure that has been clinically tested with much success. I wish you luck.

    I'm Banded!!!

Thank you so much. My dietician said it is ok to be on soft/pureed foods 3-4 days after surgery. I had a scrambled egg and yogurt for breakfast and couldn't eat the entire egg or entire pack of yogurt and I was already full. I was amazed but happy that I listened to my body and stopped eating. I want to avoid getting sick at all costs!
  11. I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow and I have been taking over the counter medicine without aspirin in it and I sound worse than I feel. I was told that the anesthesiologist tomorrow will tell me if I have to reschedule because of the cold I have. Good luck!!
  12. I start my pre-op diet on Good Friday, March 21st and have questions. I've read some folks are on a liquid only diet but my nutritionist has a different approach. We are to get at least 90-120 grams of protein per day from our protein shakes but we must also get 100 grams of carbohydrates each day. Was anyone else told to limit their carbs?
  13. I would find out if the meds come in another form such as chewable or liquid. Did your script come from your surgeon or another doctor? Do they know you are banded?
  14. Tammy, I too was recently approved for surgery and I have a surgery date of April 3rd. I have been trying Protein shakes since I started the approval process and I like the fruit flavored onces by 4Ever Fit. They are called Fruit Blast The Isolate. I am lactose intolerant and these are good for my tummy. Check out their web site and get a 7 day sample of tropical mango flavor for about $7. Good luck!

    Hmmmm...

What's up with the picture of the lady on this site with the apple. What is around the apple anyway? It just seems a bit "odd" to me.

What exactly IS she doing with that other hand? lol
  17. My name is Cheryl and I reside in Charlotte NC. I have attended an information seminar at CMC-Mercy and have an appointment with a surgeon on this coming Wednesday. Before my appointment though, I am attending another seminar to talk with patients who have already had the surgery through the Bariatric Center at CMC-Mercy. I look forward to asking lots of questions of both previous patients and my surgeon and have typed my questions so I don't forget anything. I have talked about the surgery with my family and close friends and they are very supportive and loving. I am thankful to have them behind me on this journey. I am 5'3-1/2" tall and weight 292lbs. I have a BMI of about 52 right now and need to lose some weight since the limit for the Bariatric Center is 50. I am anxious to get the process started and find out I have been approved so I can set my surgery date. I am hoping to get everything done so I can have my surgery in May as a birthday present to myself. I look forward to reading your stories and keeping in touch during this life changing process. Cheryl

    I have started the process.

Karen, Thanks so much for your kind words. I had an appointment today with my surgeon and got the "list" of requirements for my insurance company. I have an appointment with a nutritionist on Valentine's Day already. I am extremely excited.
  19. Longhorn, I read your post today and I appreciate your honesty regarding the surgery, what to expect and how important it is to listen to your doctor and follow the instructions you have regarding your new lifestyle. This is a life change and it encompasses how you look at food with regard to staying healthy. If someone isn't ready to make the commitment, then weight loss surgery is not the route they need to take. Thanks.

Travelgirl, Thanks and glad to hear it doesn't sound odd to you!

    NC Intro Thread...

Mel119, Don't let it get you down. I'm not banded but am on my way to getting approved and I look forward to one day saying I am banded. When you made the decision to lose weight, you did it to get healthy and to feel good about yourself. Your co-workers have no right to rain on your parade by trying to bring you down. Keep your head high, know that you made the right decision for you and keep smiling on the inside and outside. Who knows, they may be jealous about your success. Working with a group of women at times can bring out the claws and negative comments.
  22. Hello everyone, I work for a local hospital and have MedCost Preferred. Has anyone has any experience with them regarding the approval process? If so, I would love to hear about your experience. Thank you very much.
