    4days post op & HUNGRY!!!

Honestly, I didn't even get hungry until like week 2 but that's just me. Maybe try drinking a little more liquids to help.
  3. My hospital paid for my entire surgery and only the lapband was offered. Even if the bypass or sleeve where offered I wouldn't do that. Just something about the fact that a bypasser can loose up to 100lbs in 3 months is completely unrealistic and sounds dangerous to me. Also I never want my insides rerouted and the fact that your stomach is cut off but still producing acid and what not while it's sewn up in there is kinda nasty.
  4. The only thing I make sure I eat is breakfast. Mainly because it's the most important meal of the day lol. Other than that, if I'm not hungry or a little peckish during lunch time I just have a bite or two and know that I'm fine with that even though I'm not full. Then by the time dinner comes around at 6 I'm usually hungry so then I eat
  5. Is the chat not working again for ie8 users? Cuz it's not working for me =(

    Bad surgery day stories

Couldn't agree more monkey. My surgeron who I actually found out didn't do my surgery but he did assist the person to make sure everything went ok, was a great surgeon. Fast forward to when I went for my first fill and he was a complete ass, my nurse did my fill but he couldn't find the port so the surgeon stepped in and was just like "it's right there" and did my fill, I didn't even get to have a sip of Water and the other guy that had the band done the same day as me was at the door and he basically just shoved me out. Thankfully he's on long service leave for 3 months so I won't have to deal with him next time I go for my fill.

    Bad surgery day stories

Mine wasn't that bad. Got to the hospital at 8am and had to wait around to go up to the surgery floor. Got there around 10. Went in and changed and didn't actually go into surgery until 2pm (which by the time my stomach was talking to me lol) so the nurses were great. My surgeon who I had previously only met once was pretty nice even though he made me cry when he asked what my weight was (what can I say? I'm a girl lol) so went into recovery at god knows what time and took forever to wake up. Felt like I was going to puke and told the nurses who went and put something in my iv, still felt like I was going to be sick so they gave me a bag but all that happened was I gagged and burped lol. No pain at that time. Was wheeled to the floor below where my room was (got a room to myself yay) and then the pain hit (got to the room around 7pm by the way) so the nurse was saying I should have morphine which was ridiculous - I didn't think I was in that much pain that I needed morphine and I've only had it once before and I felt horrible the next day - almost passed out. So I gave in and she gave me the morphine. Didn't sleep much that night at all because they came in every hour to check the surgery marks and make sure they weren't bleeding. Fast forward to the morning when I needed to pee and honestly I hated the nurses then, I seriously needed help getting out of bed because it was painful and the nurse was just like "oh we're not allowed to help, it'll put us at risk" And I was just sitting there thinking " So if a patient falls on there ass and sues you because you weren't doing your job properly what are you going to do then? And I know for a fact that they can help people get out of bed because it was the surgery ward and I've been on a previous ward where they've had to help me out of bed because I had a chest tube in and couldn't move. But oh well. So had a shower and was pretty tired still, went for a couple of walks to help with the pain (didn't have any gas at all or shoulder tip pain) then went back to my room where I WAS going to have a sleep but then the nurse came in and said "Oh we need this room for another patient" So I got taken to the transit lounge which is basically where people go before they go home and there transport hasn't arrived and then went home. Overall the nurses before surgery where great, they where really nice and very helpful. The nurses in the ward on the other hand where complete bitches. So I dunno. All I can say is don't get your lapband at the p.a hospital in brisbane, australia lol.
  8. Hey. Yeah I'm kind of at a standstill with my weightloss which is a bummer, but I've walked twice and need to start doing it more so hopefully it'll go off a bit quicker lol. 8ccs is definitely drastic and the annoying thing is I thought I would have maybe a little restriction for ages which I did but it only lasted like 2 weeks =( Luckily I go for another fill next week=) So how are you going? Have you heard any more info since your appointments?

  9. While I was on mushie food my dietician said I could have scrambled eggs so I had them about 5 days out of 7 days lol. As for the first actual soft food? It was quiche, and damn it was good =)
  10. Hey Balk, are you okay? You didn't seem yourself earlier in the chat room and hope everythings okay with you.

  11. Mines on the right. Only annoys me when I'm shaving my legs lol.

Are you tired all the time?

Honestly the first 5 weeks for me I was always tired and even now if I get woken up earlier than I usually get up I'm tired for the next couple of days until I can get those 2-3 hours back. Sometimes dehydration is a factor when we're tired but if you're really worried ring your surgeon and just ask what the g.o is on it.

    I don't care: A Michael Jackson Rant

Of course there is always going to be huge controversy over this story. People either think he was innocent or not innocent. In my opinion, you don't share a bed with a child unless they are your child no matter what. And what "innocent" person invites a child over for a party anyway? Yes I realize he had issues revolving from when he was younger because of his father BUT because he earn't so much, he would of been able to afford the best therapist and possibly get that resolved, right? I think he was a good singer, I won't deny that. But as a person I never liked him. People go on about the fact that he was aquitted with the latest trial so that automatically deems him innocent? What about the previous case where he actually paid off the family?
  14. I've been thinking about this alot. My dietician said that I don't really have to worry about the drinking before but mainly after (although I'm not following her advice and I am actually drinking and then waiting 15 minutes and then eating) But really my question is. If it's liquid which goes straight thru why exactly do we have to wait so long and then eat? I understand the after part - Because it pushes food thru and is painful and if you push the food thru then you're going to be hungry again. But can anyone really tell me why we have to do the before? Thanks

Does anyone eat fruit in this forum???

I was told by my dietician to try and keep a balanced diet (as balanced as you can get with the band) my vegies where low and so where my fruit intake so at the moment I've had strawberries every day. Like yesterday for breakfast I had a piece of toast with jam and 3 strawberries. At the moment it's hard to find any other fruit that's ripe, because it's winter here in australia and strawberries are the only thing I like (bananas make me puke from the smell of them) so it'll probably be easier once summer comes.

Why do they say it?s cheating?

I just think of it this way. We want to keep the weight off, sure we could have done it ourselves but the chances of gaining it back plus more weight? Who wants that? I sure don't want to loose 120lbs and then gain that back plus more. This was the only solution, the band is a tool that will help me keep the weight off and keep me healthier in the long run. Why do people have such strong opinions against it when the simple fact is, you want to loose the weight and keep it off? Not loose the weight, keep it off for a little while and then gain it back?
  17. I dunno skinny, I mean I don't want to eat and then feel hungry and hour later because there was still liquid in my pouch I guess. I just seriously don't get the before tho you know, especially when it goes straight thru.
  18. Mmm lovely. You just made me gag from that - Congrats lol. I guess it's not like an average cold where you can have lozenges and it goes away hey? Feel better!

  19. Post nasal drip? Never heard of that, but I don't think I had one so that could be why, I agree with you tho on the restriction coming and going, it's definitely weird and it depends on what I eat. I find if I don't get full the first time I can still eat afterwards which I probably shouldn't do =( Like last night I had some fish & chips for dinner, cooked the fish myself so it was healthier lol. And I was full for like an hour and a half, but as soon as I drink again, it's like it just goes straight thru, frustrating much? It's great that you're looking into gyms, I've been walking umm once =( And I'm definitely bummed about how much I haven't lost, but I know it's my fault, just need to start walking

what were u eating 3-4 weeks post op?

Sorry Elcee, that's exactly what I meant as well just that I could think of the words to put it into a proper sentence (had a blonde moment, no offense to blondes either lol) As for mushies, I think as long as the consistency isn't like gulping down something really thick like a thickshake it's okay. For the first like week of my mushie foods it was pretty blended down, added Water, stock, Soup to whatever I had to think it out, then when it was like the week mark afterwards I made them a little thicker consistency. Also another thing to have charli - Soups. pumpkin soup thinned out or not thinned out depending on what stage you're on is awesome!

    Soo upset...

Hey Kaitlyn, I know that in some hospitals in the states they do studies on the lapband in children under 18 and sometimes it is funded so maybe you could ask around at your hospital?
  22. Hey! So far so good thankfully. Had my first fill on the 17th last month and was worried I was going to be too tight but wasn't so thank god for that lol. But I still have no restriction, which I expected but it still sucks lol. How are you going so far? I see you've lost 25lbs so far? That's awesome =)

what were u eating 3-4 weeks post op?

Usually your told to stay away from things like pasta and rice at this stage because they can enlarge in your stoma - Basically like white bread - it gets doughy. For me I was just on mushies 3 weeks out and I had whatever the family had but just stuck it in a blender and added more water or stock to thin it out to baby food consistency. I lived on basically mashed potato, pumpkin and gravy mixed together for like 4 days and was content cuz it was actually flavour lol. Things like chicken are lets just say interesting once blended, like a chalky flavour basically as well. I also bought some soups like campbells (the chunky ones with beef and vegies) and just blended that as well. What I was told is that it should be baby food consistency or could be able to get up a McDonalds straw. Hope everythings going okay so far!
  24. I'm 21. As soon as I loose the weight, why not? You can always wear tights underneath if your thighs aren't exactly great and that's exactly what I plan on doing. Hopefully I'll be one of those people that the older ones look at and think "Oh my god, what a tart" lol. Just kidding. =)
  25. I don't take chewables at all mainly because the only ones you can get here are for kids. They don't have a huge range for wls patients here in australia so I take the centrum (non chewable) and have no problem at all. I was taking one called supradyn but straight after surgery it was taking me until 1pm to drink it so I gave up and took the centrum. Eventually though I know I'm going to have to find a chewable or another soluble, especially if I'm too tight in the morning.
