๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ got a reaction from Mrs. Hayes in Effects of Nutrient Deficiency on Skin
I was doing my morning obsessive reading and came upon this interesting PubMed article that gives a nice, comprehensive list outlining the effects of macronutrient/micronutrient deficiencies on your skin. Linky to the article..."Skin changes after bariatric surgery" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4371663/ A screenshot of the chart for quick reference is below.

Sadly, I've confirmed that my insurance, Anthem Blue Cross (California), still requires dietician consults for 6 months. So I guess my Blue Cross plan is just not the same type of plan discussed in this article

๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ got a reaction from Mrs. Hayes in Whooshes and Stalls - Why weight loss isn't linear
In the Keto world where I come from, just like here, folks are plagued with the dreaded "stalls" then like magic, the scales begin to move again in the desired direction. I'm surprised I've never heard the topic of the "whoosh effect" discussed in here. For the sake of not writing a novel, I'll provide infographics and some helpful links to read for those interested. I'm not here to argue about the validity of this concept so please, if you don't agree, feel free to leave adult-worthy, constructive feedback or just scroll on by. I personally have experienced several "whooshes" over the course of the past year and half, so if anything, this stuff makes sense.
What's a Whoosh?
Have you stalled for 2-3 weeks or even gained a few extra pounds, then wake up the next morning to see the number on the scale drop considerably? The "whoosh effect" is essentially the period of time during a "diet" when fat loss becomes noticeable and the graphic below shows why.
Google has a ton of references on this. This link explains things on an easy to understand, high level https://mysugarfreejourney.com/keto-questions-what-is-the-whoosh-effect/
Also, this lovely lady does an excellent job at explaining the "whoosh effect" in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF3rmi4DJAw
P.S. Just ignore the keto aspect of things. Fat loss happens the same way for everyone no matter how you're losing it...unless you get Lipo and that's a whole 'nother thing LOL

So Iโm sitting here 13 days PO and I keep having these recurring thoughts of โwhat if my bypass just doesnโt work...?โ Irrational, I know. Iโm not talking about losing the weight and regaining. I mean straight up NOT losing anything ever. That doesnโt happen, right? I have no complications, no pain, I can drink and take my supplements with no issue. That scares me too. Like, I thought this was supposed to be hard. If I didnโt see the scars on my belly I would second guess that I ever had surgery. ๐

๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ got a reaction from MarvelGirl25 in Psych Eval Today!!!
All done! The psych eval went really well and it was very quick (about 20 minutes), but we had a nice chat. All he asked was how long have I been overweight, are there others in my family with weight issues, do I have other health issues, what have I tried in the past, how do I think surgery will affect my life, stuff like that...other than those things, it was a relatively short, positive conversation. He said after he writes up his report he'll provide the clearance. Woot! Easy peasy.
Edit: I did have a true/false questionnaire that I filled out ahead of time. It was 165 questions. Your surgeon may not use this, but at least it'll give you an idea what you could expect as far as the line of questioning. Here's the file.

In my surgeon consult yesterday he told me that once I have surgery, I must avoid NSAIDS at any and all costs because the potential to cause ulcers. Pardon the pun, but this was a tough pill to swallow LOL What in the world do you do when you have a headache or period cramps? Tylenol has always been 100% ineffective for me especially with period cramps. Headaches are rare for me, but cramps...those are a definite once a month occurrence and they show no mercy except when I toss back about 4 Advil

Same here! Quitting Advil will be hard, but itโs interesting how I hear so many people say that Tylenol never worked for them pre-op but works great post-op. I wonder why that is. ๐ค

I could have written this myself back in February, I was sure it didnโt โtakeโ and that I was going to fail, it wouldnโt work on me , I felt too good after surgery.. but Iโm down 64 lbs... your not on a diet , your body will not allow you to eat like you once did and in a few months you will feel more confident.. even up until a few weeks ago( in my newbie posts) I had no confidence... I talked to my surgeon and she assured me I would do well and I suggest CALL your dr. If you need reassurance and keep talking to us and reading.. you are not alone AT ALL and what you are feeling .. we all felt

๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ reacted to Frustr8 in Mashed Tater Guilt
Well pretty close, I have been known in the past to start out with leftover mashed potatoes, add a little cooked onion and celery, milk, or in the old days cream, and YumYum, sometimes even cheese. Full of calories, a former guilty pleasure of mine. But I concede none of that stuff feels as good as thin feels. Down over a hundred pounds since my own surgery 9 months ago- and I didn't lose by breaking rules but following the guidance I was given.

some plans allow for it. Lots don't, but some do. Some surgeons want their patients following ultra low-carb diets; others recommend more balanced diets. Mine was one of the latter, but I tended to go lower carb than what his clinic recommended.

My nutritionist said no potatoes at all in any form because they absorb Water and expand in your stomach. I hope that doesnโt mean forever because I dearly love them ๐

๐ บ๐ ธ๐ ผ๐ ผ๐ ธ๐ ด๐ บ reacted to catwoman7 in Fiber
RDA is 15-25 grams a day. People early out from WLS probably don't get nearly that much because we have to focus so much on our Protein requirements (actually, most Americans in general probably don't get that much every day). So anyway, if you're in or under that range, theoretically you won't be overdoing it.

I had a Think Thin Protein Bar ( at least 12 grams of fiber) I was sick as a DOG.. the only thing I could think of was it had to have been the fiber.. I try to keep the fibers grams no more than 5 a meal till I know I can handle it because eventually I will need the fiber when I maintain ( fiber makes you feel fuller) .

How much fiber is too much? Iโm switching to the Atkins 30g + 7g of fiber shakes to help save on the amount of Benefiber I use. One serving of Benefiber only gives 3g and the suggested amount per day is 3 servings (9g). I donโt wanna get stopped up. Thoughts?
