  1. Now that I think about it I had some temporary aversion to everything tofu and soy yoghurt. It lasted about 7 or 8 months or so.
  2. No, it's the soy based meat made by Rügenwalder I use quite often. Seitan I usually only use in very intense tasting tomato based stews.
  3. Leftover sticky rice again (last portion) with "chicken", green beans, carrots, pineapple, mushrooms and red onions in a sweet & sour sauce.
  4. Interesting. I'd consider a sandwich with fruit and/or vegetables/small salad or pickles on the side as a "normal lunch". Or a sandwich with a yoghurt as dessert. It's a common thing to bring with you to the office and a popular choice at the cafeteria if one doesn't like what's offered for warm lunch that day. The combination of sandwich, chips and cookies for lunch sounds weird to a German. The burger/fries or other fast food combo is the "unhealthy but tasty" occasional choice for lunch for most people I work with.
  5. You can train your taste buds up to a certain degree. You might never like a food you truly hate hate HATE but you can train yourself to like and even crave foods you're kind of ok-ish with. So what vegetables are you kind ok-ish with?
  6. I think this is the main culprit when it comes to hostility post WLS: envy. Weight/food struggles are ubiquitous, at least past a certain age and it's kind of a WTF?? feeling when slightly overweight people are getting all hostile when seeing a MO person dropping weight.
  7. I guess I was very lucky with this one. The people who knew and know about my surgery (or rather multiple ones) are/were usually curious but not hostile. When going to restaurants or ordering food for special events they usually ask what I can eat or not (I don't eat meat/dairy) and if I'm ok with the choice they made. I can remember being at a fancy dinner after a meeting and one of my colleagues noticed me not eating that much even though the food was sooooo good (it was) and I freely admitted that I'd sometimes would like to be able to eat more, like e. g. tonight but that things are just as they are and that in the end it's not the end of the world. He asked some questions, I answered them and then we moved on to a different topic. I gave a damn that we we're surrounded by people. I'm not making it a secret, too much of a hassle. Of course I can't look into their heads and I don't know if they're talking negatively about it behind my back. I'm sorry to say so, but WLS patients are contributing to this stigma themselves by keeping their surgery a secret, sometimes trying to hide it at all cost and telling people they "just eating healthier and exercising" when asked about how they lost so much weight. This "keeping it a secret" is usually explained with wanting to keep medical privacy. While I completely understand that medical history is private I still would like people to ask themselves the question if they would be as private about going to the dentist because of wisdom teeth surgery or having taken their gall bladder out. In fact "gall bladder surgery" is a popular camouflage for WLS as it seems, so "medical privacy" doesn't really seem to be the issue in the end. There will always be toxic people in your environment. You can only try to get rid of as many of them as possible or at least limit contact to them as much as possible. Regarding first dates with guys: maybe try to meet them for coffee first, not for dinner. No eating involved at all or maybe only something small.
  8. Doesn't feel like that to me. No change here.
  9. Prepared some of the leftover rice from yesterday with coconut milk and cinnamon. Not as creamy as when cooked with coconut milk of course but a non-regrettable substitute for the lazy cook anyway. Though I have to admit it looks more like some kind of... meat balls in cream? lol
  10. - starting out with a non-sustainable diet and/or exercise routine - not making yourself familiar with "flexible control"
  11. Yes, it has a little basket that you can put into it, either solo or on top of the rice. One can also bake a cake in it. At least the instructions claim so. ?
  12. Me likes the rice cooker. It's a closed system without any nasty leakage. Only a little bit of steam coming out of a little valve on top. Should have invested more money from the beginning on... ?
  13. Black & White sticky rice made in my new rice cooker. Curry with yellow paste, coconut milk, green beans, shiitake mushrooms, red onions, tofu and rehydrated soy strips. The rice cooks up to a really beautiful color, almost purple.
  14. Meet my new rice cooker mini. It can cook up to 3.5 cups of dry rice (brown rice a bit less). If this thing is good I'm going to invest into the bigger version for batch cooking because my husband is already interested in taking the mini one home with him, lol.
  15. Red and purple roasted potatoes with a soy skyr dip. Definitely for the HCLF people, not the HFLC people. Before and after roasting:
  16. I still sometimes wonder and I have no answer. And I also think that some of the so-called successful old-timers are not really as compliant as the n00bs think. Anyway, I think a lot of people are asking the wrong question. They're asking "What can I do?" (do the answers in this thread really come as such a surprise? honestly, I don't think they do) when what they should be asking: "How can I do?"
  17. Depends on what your diet and exercise schedule looks right now what might be your best strategy. If you noticed that you have e. g. eating 6 meals instead of your usual 4 or 5 cutting back on meal frequency might be the right way to go. If you noticed that you're eating more calorie dense foods now, change back to less calorie dense foods etc.. There might most likely be some trial and error involved though. In general the more you eat, the less calorie dense the food you eat needs to be. When you're an exercise lover and have a high NEAT on top you can get away with eating more calories but in the end you can't out-exercise a lousy diet.
  18. Multicolored tomatoes, rice with furikake, mushrooms, broccoli and canned mackerel in black beans.
  19. I don't count regularly but the few times I tracked with an app to look at my protein and micronutrient intake I was easily at 2.500 kcal. I don't know how people on here survive on 1500 kcal or less. I have that suspicion as well but can't prove it of course. Just out of curiosity: are you a fidgeter as well?
  20. My question was more like how are you planning to handle the fact that you're going to be able to eat more. All patients are determined to "never let it happen again" and many of them fail. Too many patients say "I will never again" - until the day they finally do.
  21. That every person is different. How long standing and severe was her diabetes compared to yours for example?
  22. Peanutty stew with a tomato based sauce and seitan. Flat bread.
  23. That doesn't really make a difference. The point is that people get flak for "eating off plan". People "confess" here because they're scared. They know they're going to get flak, but they're scared. Scared, they did some damage. Scared to go to their doctors because it's worse being scolded at the doctor's office than on an internet board. Scared, that they already failed or that they already gambled with their future success and lost. But most content of this thought train is catastrophizing bullshit. Now while it's not great to eat "off plan" when being in the early healing phase it's nothing really uncommon. Just look at this board alone. Giving people flak doesn't help them though. People need encouragement to get up again, dust themselves up and continue doing better than they did before. Self-righteousness and pointing out that you yourself "are sticking 110% to the plan" is helping no one but your own ego (not talking about you personally here, mind you).
  24. Actually followed my pretty loose guidelines this time. Some veg raw, some cooked and some fruit per day.
