    Alcohol

Ah yes, but that doesn't mean that you're doomed if you haven't lost 80% or something like that of your EW in that period. You will continue to burn fat as long as you are in a calorie deficit.

    Alcohol

According to my NUT (I asked her about that "window" because patients - including myself - are driving themselves crazy about it) it's a myth but I think in the end it all boils down to what you want to believe. There is no magical "window of opportunity" and then you're doomed or something. Think about people who continue to lose weight over a time period of several years or women who lost the baby weight after getting pregnant several years after surgery. Of course quick weight loss is exhilarating. It always is.

    Alcohol

Well, you don't become an alcoholic out of nowhere or something just because you drink a bit of alcohol now and then. The problem is swapping one addiction for another. As for my personal experience I was a bit surprised that I barely didn't notice a difference when I drank my first glass of wine. I don't know what I expected, maybe being drunk after two sips or something. I was always that person who got drowsy after one glass of wine though and that didn't change. In general I never drank much alcohol and I don't have the desire to do so now, so I'm not overly concerned about alcohol.
  4. Interesting story. I might be looking into abroad surgery when it comes to plastics. There will be a lot of research to do. Some Germans go to Hungary for plastics.

    Seriously?

must follow own advice I need to stop reading right now. It's time I'll never get back.
  6. Absolutely not. But I'd only buy it with the shaker ball that comes with the Blender Bottles.

    Seriously?

What other reason should there be than meeting an arbitrary requirement? Hell, if it's the difference between being at a BMI of 39.8 and being denied and a BMI of 40.1 and getting approved - I'd boost my weight for the important weigh in without even thinking about it! When it comes to insurance companies and meeting their weight requirements I'd classify that "roll of quarters" as an act of pure self-defense.

    Seriously?

That's what I do when a topic gets on my nerves or makes me angry (for whatever reason on whatever board). It wasn't always like this though, lol. I think I'm getting old.

    Seriously?

Simple solution: stop after one minute.
  10. On a side note: I think it's true that patients aren't blamed for chronic diseases like e. g. rheumatoid arthritis or type 1 diabetes or MS etc. However, when it comes to diseases like alcoholism or type 2 diabetes things are different. Patients have to take a lot of blame when it comes to type 2 diabetes ("just stop eating") or alcoholism ("just stop drinking").
  11. @@PorkChopExpress I couldn't have said it better. I always get a blood pressure spike when I see that people equate having to lose 20 lbs with having to lose 100 or 200 lbs.

    May 24 Surgery Day

Meh, I have bad bursitis in the right shoulder. On sick leave now and I guess it will be the next week as well as I'm still on oxycodone, cortisone and metamizol. Not being able to take NSAIDs stinks but luckily there are alternatives.

What Nutrition Fact Did You Learn?

It didn't change at all. I didn't learn anything new. It wasn't the "not knowing about nutrition" that was the problem. I have a three year education in the field of nutrition and I was always very interested in nutrition after that. It was the "not being able to apply the knowledge about nutrition" that was the problem.

    Being politically correct sucks!

Same in Germany. Not perfect, especially with the dual system kind of health care (GKV and PKV), but when I read about the issues people are having in the USA when it comes to health care, I'm glad that I live in a country where almost everybody has health insurance.

    May 24 Surgery Day

Having noticed anything but I might add that my hair is cut very, very short.
  16. I don't feel that overwhelmed by food advertisement. I use an ad blocker when browsing the net, I usually don't watch TV channels with lots of commercials on (I pay an additional fee each month to be able to view certain channels that only have a few spots between shows and they're usually not for food except for one of these cooking boxes and I'm not interested in that). As for drive through restaurants etc - my favorite pizzeria doesn't deliver so I'm usually too lazy to drive by and get a pizza, I like burgers but not the stuff you can get at the fast food places in Germany. Again, our favorite place regarding this is a place that doesn't deliver and we haven't been there for ages.
  17. @ Given the fact that so many people struggle with weight loss and maintenance even after WLS the price isn't obviously that cheap. If it was, there wouldn't be so much struggling. What helps me paying the price is thinking about the price I'd have to pay for the behaviors I want to indulge in - the results are simply not pleasant.
  18. I never felt like being in the background with a BMI of 46. I always felt very vulnerable and overly visible, always being ready for a response should someone made a nasty comment. In fact I feel way less "visible" since reaching a less-overweight physique. I simply seem to "blend in" now.
  19. Well, everything comes at a price. Just like going to the store and buying stuff. You have to pay a price for it. Some things are worth the price you'd have to pay and other things aren't. Maybe you have to cut back on a fancy vacation to be able to afford a certain product you really want to buy or that you really need to buy. And only you decide it you want to shell out the money for the product. I don't think there is an upside to being overweight. I really don't. However, being thin comes at a price (at least for people like us who have to struggle all the time with food and weight) - and that price may be high. And one has to evaluate from time to time if "being thin" is worth the price you have to pay. I don't know if I've gotten you wrong in your post as well but for me "missing things" is not about a certain body shape - it's about behaviors or things I didn't have to do while being obese. On some days (well, depending on how stressful life is on a lot of days) I just want to order food into the house so I don't have to bother with shopping and cooking, I just want to collapse on the sofa instead of going out running. I don't want to go to work by bike but I simply want to get into the car and make the way in half the time. I want to eat without thinking about "nutrition". On most days I don't want to get up early to prepare food for the day or do yoga etc. - but it's the price I have to pay and I'm paying it because I think it's worth the price. Maybe some day I will decide I'm not willing to pay it anymore. Who knows?

    Metabolism Boosts

When I tried to read it there was a pop up that blocked the article because it was "premium content"? Weird.

    Metabolism Boosts

You have to pay to view the article? Ummm, no.
  22. What is there to miss about obesity? Nothing. What is there to miss about behaviors that lead to obesity? That's a totally different story. My answer is: I miss quite a lot.
  23. Yes it is, and obviously MDs have noticed that they might be causing harm by providing that kind of counseling they're doing right now. Did you even read the whole article?
  24. Interesting article. This.
