    Saying.... Thanks

Also nothing wrong with being active on more than one board. There is no decision making for one board or another required.
  2. Oh, come on... it's not like the majority of veterans left or was banned. They were the ones who screeched the loudest and most often. It's also well known where they can be found. BP lost a lot of cattiness, cliquishness and people suffering from superiority complexes - all good things to lose. It's a chance for the less active old-timers to say what they have to say.
  3. It seems like now that the loudest screaming veterans are gone a whole crowd of veterans are coming out of the closet. That's such an important things to say. The community of veterans is a growing one as well.

    Results Not Typical

And with photoshop. --- When I read the thread title I thought this would be about WLS. Sometimes I think there should be a similar article about WLS. "BMI below 25 -> not a typical result".

    Protein for Baking/Cooking

What are "Paleo Protein Powders"? I have good experiences using pea protein in baking. All Proteins have a certain aftertaste though (I can't stand that of too much rice protein for example) so you'll most likely have to experiment.
  6. My circle of friends didn't change at all. Maybe because I never had what is often referred to as "eating buddies" on here and gatherings were never solely or mostly about food. Anyway, I still can meet people for coffee and/or something to eat. I can still meet people for lunch. I just eat a smaller portion and take left overs with me if the food was good. Honestly? No, thanks. I don't want to pick up new friends whose lives revolve around losing weight, healthy nutrition and working out. I want friends that are less obsessed than I am with this part of life and keep me sane.

    Finding New “Happy Buttons”

After all these years food still seems to be my favorite "happy button". Not the only one, but still the favorite. Or maybe I should say it's my favorite "relaxation button". I think that's more on the spot. The other thing is: food seems to enhance the experiences. That doesn't seem too unique though. Food is a major part of social gatherings, including sports (after biking or running or playing tennis or whatever people gather at a restaurant or Biergarten). I didn't get depressed after surgery. I also don't really miss being able to eat large quantities (the exception is being invited to fancy dinners which happens only a few times a year) but I don't feel that successful when it comes to finding new "happy buttons" and it's not that I only recently started searching...

WLS is the easy way out

Really? You know every WLS patient ever on this planet personally? You should also read this thread again.

    Saying.... Thanks

Well said. Indeed, there are plenty of experienced patients still posting here. They just don't post several times a day but have valuable things to say. And there will be more veterans here soon. If a patient one year out or more is considered a veteran, there will be more soon. Veterans are a growing community as well just like the newbies.

    Why I Stay Here

I enjoy reading your posts when you come around from time to time. Hopefully you'll never experience complications with your lap-band.

Weight Loss Surgery is Not the Solution

Sadly this new obsession is all too often viewed as a very good thing to cultivate or even as a predictor for adequate weight loss and maintenance.

    Fast Food Questions

IMO eating "a little bit of this, a little bit of that" (i. e. grazing) is way more dangerous than being able to eat a whole burger in one sitting once a month because I think one loses track of how high the intake actually is really quick but to each their own. Actually a single burger is not actually that much when it comes to quantity. Think about how much we could eat before WLS. Or how much people with normal sized stomachs are able to eat.

Weight Loss Surgery is Not the Solution

I wonder why so many people think their lives will magically change once they've lost weight. Of course I like being thinner but life stays the same more or less. My job is as stressful as ever, my marriage is the same as ever etc. I can imagine that for some people WLS is a true life changer (e. g. patients who are physically severely impaired because of their weight) but for many, many patients life stays the same.
  14. It seems like other micronutrients available in plant foods are completely neglected. As for protein: I don't know how much of the Protein I consume is actually absorbed with the MGB. Same for micronutrients.

    Almond Milk

I'd even post a picture - but I don't think I'm allowed to post a picture of almond boobies.

What Is Your Policy on Carbs?

    Thanks for clarifying.
  17. I have to say that depends.

What Is Your Policy on Carbs?

Where exactly did I say it's wrong to eat high fat? Indeed. Maybe it prevents people from going low carb/low fat at the same time.

What Is Your Policy on Carbs?

If you insist on being in ketosis because you think it's the right way for you to go you not only have to watch the carb intake, you also have to eat rather high in fat. The body is not stupid. When there are not enough carbs available, the body is able to make glucose out of amino acids (gluconeogenesis). So simply replacing carbs with Protein won't work that good. Protein is also more insulinogenic than many people think.

    Almond Milk

It adds a nice flavor. Coconut drink is quite nice as well. Or hazelnut.

What Bariatric Vitamins Do I Need?

Well, a surgeon is a surgeon. A nutritionist is a nutritionist. Two entirely different job profiles. I wouldn't expect a surgeon knowing as much about nutrition as a nutritionist any more than expecting a nutritionist being able to perform an appendectomy.
  22. Ah yes, almost forgot. Same here.
  23. I guess I will never understand that foot thing. Maybe it's the type of shoes people wear if you need to get smaller sizes? My closet looks pretty thinned out. I'm in the lucky situation though that I don't need to buy clothes for work. I would have to spend way more money on a wardrobe if I would work at an office instead of a hospital.

Posting about fast food and unhealthy junk

Unrealistic expectations and unsustainable behavior changes in the beginning are the reasons 47.322% of WLS patients gain back their weight.
