  1. Am I insane to have surgery on Wednesday and go to work Friday? I did it with gallbladder surgery (worked 2nd day after surgery) and a c-Section same way (worked 4th day after surgery).....is it much worse than those? I had a baby this year and have no time to take. Am a fast healer and never took pain meds with 3 sections or post-gallbladder surgeries. Thx

Working beyond grief for a better life!

I am like you and I do not get held down for long. I healed very quickly from my csections and I am 4 days post op from sleeve surgery and could definitely do a desk job. The discomforts are similar to csections. If you have a job where you are on your feet all day... Inwould think twice about doing so. Remember to get your fluids and Proteins in... that has been the hardest for me! Good Luck!

  2. I joined the losers bench on July 5th! I had a reaction to anesthesia which set me back a few day. Inwas unable to keep anything down until Thursday afternoon. I was released Thursday evening. I was so greatful to sleep in my own bed. I have not had to have any painkillers since Thursday morning when I was still vomiting. My stomach does ache a bit when walking and with the gas pains. Inhabe tried gas-x with minimal relief. Walking is what is helping me most. So far, I have average 24 oz of fluids since release from the hospital. Because I was so ill, I did not use anything thing I brought. I had blurred vision until today. I went home in the clothes I came in. I am feeling pretty good today!!

  3. Hi everyone, second night after surgery! !! I'm feeling pretty good thanks to the pain meds :o

Coming out of surgery was a bit tough but as soon as they got the nausea & pain under control it was much better. Five incisions plus a drain that I'm very much looking forward of removal in the morning. Looking forward to going home tomorrow!!!

Good luck to all July surgeries! !! ;-)

Glad you are doing well Shaunie. The anesthesia did not sit well with me either. I ended up very sick and couldn't keep anything down until yesterday afternoon. Since my nausea wasn't as bad they went ahead and discharged me. I am doing ok at home, trying to get all my fluids in.

Are you getting in the whole 64oz of fluids yet? I am only managing around 10oz. ????

    Good luck to everyone!!

  4. Hi Annette, I'm also having RNY on the 5th!! Very nervous :o I've been having major sinus issues all week hoping they chill out my Tuesday.

Hi Shaunie! I am so sorry you are having sinus issues!! I would say up your Vitamin C and maybe take Emergen C but, mu surgeon and hospital stated no Vitamins 2 weeks before surgery. Are you taking anything for it?

  5. I'm feeling starvation!!! :o Feeling good 8th day of liquid diet! I think I'm getting to the point where I just want to get it done and start the healing process. I've been suffering from a sinus infection all week :'( Hoping it runs its course before next week. Mentally its been a challenging week just think its jitters lol Thanks for asking;-)

I can only imagine how 8 days of liqiud feels!! Just one day and I felt so deprived! Lol You can do it!! We are almost to our first finish line!!

  6. @ameada, I do worry about looking old after the weightloss :-( I look a lot younger then Iam and I would like that to stay that way ;-)

I'v been through the struggles of the lapband and the removal of the lapband so at this point I have the mind set that if I'm going to do this again I'm going all in. I have about 130lbs to lose and I'm worried with the sleeve its just not the right tool for me..

As far as the malnutrition I'm hoping with making the right food choices as far as your Proteins are concerned, proper Vitamins and becoming much more active I will be able to keep my youth for a bit.

It sure is a scary thing to make a commitment to :o

Good Luck, I'm sure we will both do fabulous!!!!!

Shaunie, you are going to do great!! I apologize for bringing it up, I should have pm'd it.

    Good Luck!!

  7. Thanks for the advice, I do love weights and strength training. I'm trying to have legs like Serena Williams lol..it would be hard to stop. And no not taking in more calories , just adding in more carbs so probably won't gain weight, but prob will hold on to more Water. I'm just worrying for nothing. I know it will be ok. It's just like me to be a worry wart. But what you said about your family member looking so much older, oh no!is that due to health issues or is that due to malabsorption? That makes sense though, if your body wasn't able to invest nutrients that your skin would start to sag and stuff. It's all a little scary because we don't know how our bodies individually will react to any of the surgeries. I just believe this is for me. For me I've struggled with weight all my life. In 2012 I had a dream (amongst a time when many other changes were occurring in my life for the better) that I was reading my own obituary and that I had died of CHF. I had no other health issues at the time to make me dream this. My father came to me a week later pleading with me to lose some weight because he had a dream that I ended up in the hospital and I died. I had not even told him about my dream so I was kind of speechless. Anyway that year my father ended up getting murdered and I always wondered if God wanted him to warn me about my health before he died because you may not believe me, but I also dreamed about his death before it happened too, I just didn't understand what I was dreaming at the time. So after he passed I did end up losing twenty pounds initially but went through depression, got in a horrible horrible relationship where I was thiss close to marrying him (that would have been a horrible mistake) and my health problems began . I ended up having to go on bp medicine and found out I had thyroid disease. I tried to get the surgery, and at the time all my insurance offered was lap band. But at that time mentally I wasn't able to do all the requirements for surgery, I was lucky to even be going to work. I ballooned up to 345 in 2014 and I had stopped going out and seeing friends because I was so ashamed of how I looked and I was like this is it, I'm losing weight now! I got on ww and I lost 30 pounds but had gallbladder removal surgery and weight stalled for 7 months. I was soo frustrated with trying to lose weight on my own and counting points and I was actually crying and this thought came into my head again, try weight loss surgery again. As soon as I thought it, the thought came on so strong, like I just knew I would follow through this time and do it. And my insurance did cover the sleeve this time around... So I thank God, I truly do, I know this is something I'm supposed to do and sometimes when we get nervous we have to sit back and think why we decided to do something in the first place. Sorry this is so long, I didn't mean to write my life story, but maybe I needed to to remind myself of why I'm here. Anyway good luck with your surgery and make sure you keep us updated on everything!

The doctor said it is due to malabsorption. She is taking her Vitamins and eating as instructed. For some, it does this... that is what her surgeon says anyways. :-/

I think you are right! The Lord works in mysterious ways!! I am sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. ❤

You are going to do great!! Keep your eye on the prize!!

  8. @, Whhaaaat!!!! Ok, liquid diet around the corner, that's how you know time is winding down. I know you are thrilled. And even more , whhaat, you're switching to the sleeve! Ok fellow sleeve buddy lol. I understand though,,it's whatever you feel comfortable with, for me I just wasn't comfortable with the rerouting and malabsorption. I'm really not comfortable with the sleeve but to me it seemed the lesser of two evils. Thanks on the compliment. I'm having some issues now. I'm staying within my calories but I've been incorporating more carbs into my diet which is a no no, I'm just so burnt out!! Still exercising and eating mostly correct though, just have to tell myself this is the last month before surgery. The end is always the hardest and my surgeon insists on one final weigh in the day before surgery for all his patients. I was told I needed to stay the same weight , but I'm wondering if the scale was up a little would it affect anything since I've already exceeded my weight loss. Idk but I'm freaking out . Once I have surgery I can go at my own pace. These weigh ins are pure torture now

Can't believe I switched! Lol We went back to my home state and my sister inlaw had RNY about 10 years ago..... she looked very unhealthy, she is 45 and looks 80. So, my husband immediately started doing research and said no way are you having that. You can do the sleeve but, I will not support you for RNY.

Just remember if you are ingesting more calories, excercise more... better to not do weights though... muscle weighs more then fat! ;-)

Have you called your nurse navigator and asked?

We are most there!! 10 days! Woohooo!!

  9. July 5th that's excellent! I know you're excited. I don't know I think my biggest fear is just fear of the unknown. Knowing that this change is permanent. And I hate feeling sick and nauseous so I'm not looking forward to that. I don't want to pass out cause it's just me and my kids. So yeah , not really fear but more anxiety. God got me though. Are you planning on having an early fourth of July celebration or will you be on a liquid diet? I am happy I will be able to at least have one last "normal" fourth. But come this thanksgiving and Christmas we will be having a whole new experience huh? Good times lol

I am having a liquid diet for the 4th! Woohoo! Surgeon approved me to have a couple drinks on Friday though! Haha

  10. Thanks but it seems like it has taken forever to get this surgery date. I had basically all my requirements done at the end of last year. My medically supervised diet ended in April and I had all my pre surgery blood work done almost two months ago. Heck I didn't even know blood work for surgery was good for that long, I always thought blood work was good for only a couple of weeks before surgery. It's been rough cause I had to lose 32 pounds before surgery and I actually ended up losing 54 but I still have to try to keep it off till July. I'm sick of all of this lol. I'm just patiently waiting though. But not going to lie, I wasn't expecting the process to be this long. It's been almost a year.

Great job losing 54lbs!! That is fantastic! Just a bit longer to go!

After my husband did some additional research, I am doing the sleeve now. Just switched!

  11. Ok! That definitely makes sense. The stomach is a very important organ. I just have prayed and prayed about this and my wait has been almost a year, so prayerfully nothing will happen where I need the other half of my stomach. My surgeon has a very high success rate with the sleeve. Very high. He is the most well known surgeon here in the mid south and is always busy. But I do not know his statistics on gastric bypass or what made him stop performing it. Hmm makes you wonder. At first I was rushing this whole process but now I'm basking in the next month while I still have all my stomach, cause this is going to take some major getting used to. But we are almost there! I can't wait to go shopping for clothes and be in the regular department with the cute clothes! What is one thing you're looking forward to the most after surgery?

I can't wait to be able to ride a normal bicycle with normal tires with my children!! I also look forward to buying normal sized clothing too. I am going to enjoy being able to do all the things my children want to do and be able to do it with them. I am a very active Mom even though I have the excess weight but, there are alot of things like ride the bike on a normal sized tire, ride amusement park rides, go in a paddle boat without it being totally lop sided, go on a long hike up the mountains where we live, etc. I love spending time with our children and can't wait to do all things with them!!

  12. My first surgeon's office told me I was required to have a 6 month diet. I called insurance and they said I did not because of all my previous attempts and co-morbities. My plan actually states I just needed to have followed a 6 month diet in the last 2 years. Fast foward a couple months, I decide to call another surgeon and they get me right in.... they submit to insurance and I get an approval 24 hours after all paperwork is submitted! The 1st center still tried to tell me yesterday that I require a 6 month diet. I was happy to tell them I do not need their services anymore. I think what happens is, the centers want to charge you for pre op diets for 6 months!! Good luck!!

  13. Yep I am. Found today really hard, my hungry brain has been giving me a hard time.

Are you on the pre op diet yet?

Yay for another kiwi! :D yes I'm on the pre op diet. I found yesterday hard too. I am finding the sugar withdrawal is really tricky to manage too.

My surgery was moved up a month! It was originally scheduled for August 2nd and is now July 5th! :-)

It is exciting and scary at the same time!! Lol

I can relate to the to the hungry brain and sugar withdrawl!! The sugar withdrawl is soooo hard!! However, we are on a road trip today and I needed some caffiene pick me up.... I purchased my 2nd fav soda (dr pepper) took one sip and it was gross!! ????????????

Yeah, it's amazing how quick taste changes giving up sugar. I gave it up for a couple of months about a year ago and after the withdrawal and Craving stopped I was amazed at how much better I felt and how much more flavoursome everything was. Things I didn't think we're that sweet originally tasted sickly sweet. Unfortunately I let it creep back in and was soon back to my old sugary ways. :)
It is soooo easy to do that too!! I have cut out sugar a few times and then slipped back into the sugar craving slopes. Which has brought me to gastric bypass surgery. :-)
