  1. I had to do 6 months of doctor supervised diet since I didn't have weight watchers or Other diet program within the last 2 years. I had my surgery (sleeve) October 6. Also needed psych eval but approval was pretty smooth. Good luck to you. What agency you work for? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Wow 94 lbs in 5 1/2 months!! That's fantastic and makes me wish my surgery could be sooner. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. That's awesome! It is so confusing to read all the different pre-op diets. It's hard to not second guess Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Out to the bars?

I just wanted to give some online dating advice. I met my husband of 7 years from a dating website. I had tried them on and off for YEARS. Went on a lot of first dates. A LOT. It was sometimes fun, sometimes exhausting, sometimes boring. You tend to feel like your on a job interview each time. However after many first dates you get more comfortable. I stopped worrying so much if they liked me and started asking myself if I liked "them". I have not yet had my surgery but met my husband when I was chunky. Not at my heaviest, that happened during my marriage. My suggestion is post a honest current picture of yourself. Flattering of course but try to think of what you want to attract. If you want a sports guy/girl then one of you at a sporting event or in a jersey might be good. But if you have one with a drink in your hand you might give off the vibe of a "partyer" or a "good time girl" or "guy". Unless that's what you want to project. And like others said, "nice guy" "no drama" etc... Are all phrases to avoid. Just describe activities of what you actually like to do (not what others want to hear) and what you are looking for in a person. Try to injection a little humor into it. If someone reading your honest profile sends you a message you're more likely to find a genuine person. Also don't wait for someone to contact you. You contact those who you find interesting. Maybe that person saw your profile and was too shy or nervous to contact you. And also never meet for dinner or a meal your first date. Either coffee/drink etc... Keeps it light and short if you find you don't like this person. A meal commits to 2 hours which can be way too much with the wrong person. But coffee/tea/drink can lead to dinner or a walk together if you like each other. Also I would guess would take the pressure off of wls eating issues at first. To all those on the fence about dating websites give it a shot. It doesn't hurt to try and it opens your world to a lot of people you wouldn't normally get to meet in our everyday lives. I know 6 couples that have met and married from online. They are all happily married for years now. So it does work. Just have to give it a shot. Good luck to all of you!
  5. "I remember giving up carbs once and it was the worst week of my life." If you have time why not slowly reduce your carbs? You don't have to go from eating carbs unlimited one day to 10 carbs the next. That is miserable. Start by looking at where you get your carbs. Cut back on bread and Pasta but keep eating high fiber carbs. It is tough to totally cut carbs but to slowly do it (especially where you say that you have time) would make it easier on you. I know that I always lost excess Fluid and weight on low carb and actually felt better once I got through the "funk". I feel that the American diet is way too full of simple carbs. And that is one reason (there are many) that obesity is such a problem in our country. Good luck! I'm probably going to cut out (or at least down) my carb intake a week or so before surgery. But I'm looking at October surgery right now so I have time. I can't lose more than 7 lbs or I won't be approved for surgery
  6. I am a week into my pre-op diet, and while the primary reason given for this 2 weeks of low carb dieting is shrinking my liver, I wonder if a secondary reason is to get "low carb flu" out of the way before surgery. Yesterday was the first day I felt normal. Headaches, ravenous hunger, exhaustion and irritability up until then. I definitely don't want to deal with that along with the pain of surgery. It has also served to get me mentally prepared for the journey ahead. This isn't an argument for a pre-op diet, just my novice personal experience thus far. I remember giving up carbs once and it was the worst week of my life. But I can see everyone's point. I guess I have some time to decide what I am going to do. I'm normally a pretty good healer with surgery (had prior abdominal surgery and then a c-section) so i hope that trend continues. Although I wasn't only eating 300 calories a day
  7. Almost a year to the day! That's fantastic!
  8. Thanks soontobethinagain, Babbs and RuralNurse. I am excited and nervous and looking forward to a new healthier and skinnier me! Good luck soontobethinagain!
  9. Thanks freckles70 Jess9395..wow! How long did it take you?
  10. Thanks amyg80. My bmi is just under 41 no comorbidities. I just keep reading about pretty much everyone on their pre-op.
  11. I am just starting my road to wls and have to do 5 more months of dr supervised diet. But my surgeon does not require a pre-op diet. In some ways that is awesome (no 2 weeks of shakes and STARVING). And other ways has me wondering. I trust my surgeon. He is very knowledgeable and is not concerned about the size of my liver during surgery. Suggested I don't eat 2 pieces of cheesecake night before surgery but other than that not to worry about it. I'd like to know the success stories of those who didn't have a pre-op diet. Thanks! p.s. I might do my own liquid diet a couple days before surgery just in case
  12. That's awesome! Can't wait to be in your shoes!
  13. Thanks KristenLea. I was just told by uhc resolution unit that my surgeon should send in his recommendation and whatever documentation indicating why I should get the surgery to the pre-determination unit and because of my 40+ bmi I could possibly get approved without the 6 month diet. Even though I don't have any co-morbidities...yet. I do have a history of hypertension but for some reason I don't anymore, even though I stopped taking my meds 3 years ago. Congrats on your surgery btw! How are you feeling?
  14. Thanks KristenLea. Did you have to get the egd because of pre-existing issues or insurance required?
