    Mediterranean Style Eating

Also when looking for PLU numbers on produce, look for the number " 9 " in front of the code. Stores will mix in organic with non organic. But even lately the organic food (before surgery) was tasting off at my local Whole Foods, especially the heirloom tomatoes. Back to the old Styrofoam, tasteless tomato, it was! =(

    Stage 2 fears

In some ways, yes! I'm not where you are yet ... but I am worried about harming my new stomach. I'm even reluctant to take some medicines because I have this idea that it is so delicate and wounded. I have first follow up in 2 days, thank GOD. And I see my surgeon. I think the people here know a lot! And the replies will help a lot, too. You've come this far, so I bet you will be golden making it through the next phase. Bariatricfoodie.com was mentioned to people in another thread. I went there and it IS a fabulous site for help through these issues. =)

    sleep

Oh Mistie and everyone else here, I feel so bad for you! I've tried all of them. Right now I have Dalmane 30mg. It's a very light touch but can keep you in a dream state longer, for me anyway. The only thing I ever loved that worked was Ambien (real name brand ambien, the kind that used to work). But that wears off it's efficacy within 3 weeks for me. So I have to rotate that in and out, and can not afford name brand ($400) anymore and the generics are a waste of zolpidem chalk. I have sleep studies done regularly and a psychiatrist. But last night I slept like a rock. First week out of surgery. The night before I was sleeping like a rock... until my husband started his "fish out of water" flipping around. I really need my own bed! PS Get to a psychiatrist for sleep issues. Primary Care Dr.s can't help. They can, but the are legally limited as to what they can do for you.

    I'm exhausted

Ah ok, well congrats! Wow, I was rather sedentary before, so I know regular exercising is going to be a goal for me! I was reading exercise expectations, 3 months out of WLS. HA! I am a gamer and artist, I paint. The only time I moved was to go to dog park with my rescue or clean up after dog and myself and husband. Grocery shop etc, laundry. I mean, all that stuff adds up but it's not like I was doing timed cardio or anything. Wow, this is going to be a challenge, but then I might get hooked! Who knows!

    Alcoholism & WLS

    You go, Boy! =)
  11. Your plan is so much more progressive than mine. I am still on clear liquids, right, one week. Then second week "full" liquids, so pretty much Protein shakes and broth and clear liquids. 3rd week, soft foods like thicker soups. Oh boy! Forth week, mushier foods. C'est la Vie! My surgery however was a 'revision' but I did notice they do this for all of their WLS. Haha! We'll be hitting the soft foods at the same time I think. Here's my whole 30 days lol: ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1454875560.280951.jpgImageUploadedByBariatricPal1454875587.565974.jpg Thanks! If you like cottage cheese, the best I've ever tasted is made by "Kalona". Yes, I am fantasizing about cottage cheese right about now, lol.

    Mediterranean Style Eating

I only had my VSG on Feb 1st. But before, I had gotten into fermenting my own foods, and eating organic. I also love Mediterranean foods. So, once I can experiment, I certainly will. I truly believe I got fat off the American Corporate food Industry. And I too find, all these "brands" on display in my nutritionists office. Noting but chemicals. I do hope you get more replies, I'm curious too!

    My Jan 19th Sleeve!

I had my VSG on Feb 1st. I'm so silly I still can't figure out how to use this board. I think I accidentally deleted a friend request. And even then I don't know yet how to use it, but I'll get it right eventually! lol This might inspire you in a certain direction creatively. Who knows. I paint. I guess I am an artist? Yes, people have bought my work but I still don't think I'm that great yet so I'm curious to see where all these internal and external changes lead! Congratulations! I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

    Blood Pressure

I am sorry for those experiences you've all had. I do know how terrifying it can be to see those numbers. I was above 200/170 twice in my life, and that was due to anxiety attack that sent me to the ER, I lost a loved one. All the ER Doc did was inject me with ativan, nothing happened, and then we kept popping clonidine until it went down. Anxiety is a wrecking ball! So is pain! I'm bad at articulation, so forgive me. I did reintroduce my medication slowly, and I think it has just taken a few days to get back to where I needed to be, the range of course. Three days now I've been at regular doses, things are fine. Since I too had my VSG on Feb 1st I'm not counting on changing up my medication needs yet. I do have a curious question, I'll double check with Dr I see him on Thursday. Since my pain control is liquid, I think I've been pushing it through too fast because I'm so worried about getting in my fluids. I measure a 67 ounce jug each morning and keep taking from there until bed time. I am sipping all day long. Anyway, I used to take the liquid pain medicine, then start sipping. I felt like the pain medicine did not work. Today I decided to take the pain medicine, and wait ... The pain medicine WORKED. Now I wonder if I've been wasting my pain medicine this way? Since there is nothing stopping the flow in my stomach or intestines. Any thoughts welcome. =) Many hugs to you all. I hope we all get this BP normalized!!
  16. My pain meds do not touch my headache. Usually only NSAIDS resolve my headaches. Today since this morning, it's been non stop. Any suggestions? May be due to tight muscles, I am the person with Fibro. I used my massager. It helped a little. My mucles are really tight on the left side of my neck and back. Maybe I am not napping enough. Thank you. signed *droopy eyes* PS I usually do not eat those popsicles and diet powerades, can those do that to me? ugh

    Blood Pressure

Wow you're blood pressure is magnificent! I do hope to be there someday!
  18. I am a pickle addict, not just that ... a fermented foods addict. I am most looking forward to the day I can have my kraut and fermented pickles again. I have peeled my pickles before (at a time when I had to eat soft foods) with a potato peeler, and the pickle was still delicious! Just a thought!

    Shirataki Noodles

When I've eaten authentic Shirataki noodles made from yam only, that I used to get at my Japanese market, they would come out of me looking exactly the same way they went in. O.o Exactly. Find out which type of shirataki you can get. The best thing I have used, is the spiralizer and made zucchini noodles and it's heavenly. Absolutely heavenly.

    Any pain management secrets?

No. =( I'm SO sorry! The only thing I depend on is my pain management Dr. for help. But I had her long before this surgery. Because of the obscure and hyperbolic laws in US, Pain Dr.s have to be kept separate from other Dr.s. But perhaps you need to see a pain Dr. now, if you are the person I am thinking of. I don't know how your Bariatric Dr is helping you or how long he feels he can prescribe you medication until he gets nervous, because the system essentially puts the 'fear of God' in Dr.s who Rx pain meds. Sad, because it affects people who desperately need help. If your Bariatric Dr. is not covering your pain, it's time to get an appointment with a pain clinic and I'd tell him or her that.

    Headache, advice please

Ok So I put in a call to the Dr. on call, and he advised I take some Tylenol, liquid or w/e. My specific pain medicine does not have any acetaminophen in it, especially no NSAIDS. I didn't even think of that. My pain Dr. was being very careful she didn't want to irritate my new stomach either. So, hubby dashed to get acetaminophen (Tylenol) and the headache subsided. That headache also amped up my anxiety and blood pressure. Yes, I am still nervous until I get more good reports at not just follow up, but 6 weeks, and then some. (Still ... I don't know what the headache was from, maybe just because I'm only home now 5 days and stuff is still leaving my body. I kept drinking Water, thinking perhaps dehydration is still a possibility, so I'm sipping all day!) Thank you all for replying! I do so appreciate this forum.

    Question Need help

I don't know what surgery you had, but if it's the lap band, I've had it before, I just had a VSG last week. If it's the lap band, you can risk throwing up so much that your stomach will prolapse above the band. That is what happened to me. I'd be very careful about chewing slowly, thoroughly and taking a long sweet time to eat.
  23. I believe you have the right idea. I have an old friend from high school, and she is (I'm just going to say it) Bat Sh*t Crazy, of course I loved her, but she keeps herself in check with exercise routinely. She will not miss a day if she can help it. She also took up outdoor sports like kayaking, and it really keeps her moods leveled off! =)

    Headache, advice please

Thank you. I did ween off the caffeine, (I was only a 2 cup a day person, no soda or other flavored drinks) but not 100%.I had some green tea. I miss it. But I usually do not use artificial sweeteners at all. I don't mind Water, I love water. And I am getting in my 67 ounce jug a day, I drink from it all day. And my bone broth. Maybe I should stick with just that for a bit. In the hospital they did give me torodal (sp?) which helps w/ inflammation and I never had a headache. But since home I have been using the popsicles and powerades, no caffeine at all, nada I'm having a bad one since 4am yesterday. I don't have a heating pad, nope. But I have a "Thumper" level of massager, really nice too. PS This is my third day home, I think. lol Way off sleep schedule.

    February 2016 sleevers?

How much did you lose during pre op diet Not much at all during my 6 months preparation ... because I had two incidents that threw me off my eating plan. Skin cancer removal (basal) via MOHs surgery and a simple dental procedure turned into a horror show by the dentist extracting a tooth ....long story, flesh fell off the inside of my jaw. NOT just dry socket, it took me three months of my 6 month plan to get flesh back in my mouth. I ate only things like starchy soups. No losing weight. On the 2 week pre op diet I think I lost about 15-20 pounds. I really wanted my liver to be small because I didn't want any complications! So paranoid after this whole last year!
