    Having Thoughts and Second Thoughts

I've had these exact thoughts. Here's my conclusion. I'm 52 and haven't managed to do it yet. Time for help. I'm sure as it gets closer for me I'll have these same thoughts you're having though. I'll come back and read this. Good luck with whatever you do decide. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'd hope they do take it during surgery. I've read about people needing it removed after surgery anyway. Count your blessings you've never experienced a gall bladder attack! So painful! I had mine out last September! Good riddance [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    DVT

Thanks everyone. I went to see a hematologist today and he feels very comfortable with me having the surgery. Switched me to Xarelto as well. Still looking at a sleeve date of May or June! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    DVT

So I have DVT and after going through the year of jumping through hoops I am unsure if I can have surgery. To say I feel totally defeated is an understatement. Has anyone had successful sleeve surgery with DVT? I need some hope. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Stop smoking before WLS

I had one already (it could've been done at any time) and I'm having another at preop. Assuming they just do a standard blood test (pass or fail) you should be clear. Stay away from all second hand smoke etc. I was shocked I came back clear for the blood. I certainly wasn't coming up clear on the urine cotinine tests I bought on amazon. I've stayed smoke and nic free and plan to continue.

    Stop smoking before WLS

My surgeon said no nicotine at all. I just had a blood test for it and they're doing another one before surgery. I quit cold turkey after 35 years of a pack a day. Showed all clear of cotinine in four days (blood test). It's not easy but it's easing up now. I really suggest reading Allen Carr's book. Best wishes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I had my final visit before my insurance packet is submitted. I did all the blood work (29 vials!!). I was an emotional wreck at the appt. though. You see this year has SUCKED! When I started the weight loss surgery journey life fell apart. My wife broke her foot and needed 5 surgeries, my dad went blind, then he fell and became permanently paralyzed, then he passed. It has been awful. But I'm running short on my insurance window and I need this surgery. I quit smoking, started, quit. I lost weight, gained. My TSH went up to 9 and I felt so sick. It's been a hot mess of a year. So please cross your fingers and toes that they understand and know that I truly am ready to do this. I feel like i applied at the worst possible point in my life.

Did you get cold feet before surgery?

I'm an adventurous eater too and love trying new things on vacation. Especially foods indigenous to the area. I'll still try the foods, just carefully. I'm going to follow this thread because I've had similar thoughts.

    Breathing tube fear

Oh. My. God. I will bet they were hoping you wouldn't remember that. How does that even happen??? Ugh!

    Feel like a failure

It's kind of good to read that your doctor is so invested in you. I haven't been sleeved yet and I had almost backed out once and felt those scared feelings again but then I went and looked at your stats and felt hopeful again.

    Feel like a failure

I can't imagine how lousy that feels. I haven't had surgery yet but when I have lost control eating I know the best feeling is taking back control. Find that courage and kick that crap food to the curb. You went through too much to let the weight creep back on. Best wishes!

    Breathing tube fear

Where did you read that it was still in after waking? I'm guessing they had a complication. I've had a few surgeries (but not sleeved yet) and never have I woken with it not already removed. I have had a sore throat from it though.

    Worried -Surgery Monday march 13th

I suggest starting a new thread with this topic to reach the most participants. Although I asked a similar question about my insurance and got no responses. Maybe more folks have your insurance and can assist you? Worth a try.

She should be in surgery right now! Hopefully she passed her cotinine test and she's out and going to wake soon to her new life!

    Worried -Surgery Monday march 13th

I'm worried about that too! I wonder if it's a common thing or a way to talk ourselves out of surgery? Anxious to see the replies. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I have been changing my mind a lot about the surgery but last night I read a thread on a Facebook group. The person asked if people were happy with their surgery. The responses (hundreds of them) were overwhelmingly YES. Even some who had complications said they'd do it again. That did it for me. I'm doing this and now that I've made the decision I can hardly wait! I know I'll be nervous but my decision is made and that in itself is a relief.

Does anyone here have COVA Care insurance? It's what state employees have. Just curious what your experience was with them. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
