Mary2016 got a reaction from cyberdiva in Getting my sh*t together!
I have been struggling as well....8 1/2 months out of the sleeve. I don't think I am hungry, just grazing. Trying to curb the nighttime snacking, I go upstairs away from the kitchen....out of sight, out of mind. However, not getting the significant other support. "I understand, but...." doesn't work. Being angry at me for having to get away from food, doesn't help. No one can truly understand this addiction I have to food. I am not being dramatic. If I sit in the family room, next to the kitchen, I think FOOD, FOOD, FOOD. Battling this battle, don't feel like battling people too!!!!!
So frustrated, angry, tired....... I will not give up!!!

I feel for you. I am 2 months into my 3 month preop process and was doing great. I totally flubbed it. So disappointed in myself. This is so hard.

You need to see a therapist immediately, no one here is qualified to "tell you how the f**k to live like this in the meantime." You are literally screaming for help, pls get it.
Ask you surgeon's office for the name of therapists who work with bariatric patients post op, or contact the one who did your psych eval prior to surgery.
Pls take care of yourself and let the people you live with know that you are not in a good place.

I start my liquid diet (3 shakes and then one meal - 4 oz protein/ veg/ and like a joke of a carb serving) on Weds 6/8. 6/15 my daughter graduates high school. I think that Friday 6/17 we will go out to dinner!!! and then 6/18 I am throwing her a party with about 40-50 people......chicken parm, sausage and peppers, apps, sangria, cake......UGH!!! And only one of my siblings knows I am going for surgery on June 22, 4 days after the party. So, I know I need to be strict, its gonna be a killer. Hopefully no one will notice I am not eating. I just need to stay busy.

There are days when I still say.....am I really doing this? I never thought I would....especially when I lost 160 lbs on weight watchers. But slowly, 100 lbs crept back on. At this point, I have serious orthopedic issues, and I don't want to wait for the diabetic, hypertension, heart, cancer, etc....all of those things that obesity increases your risk for. I went to see a bariatric physician for the first time last fall. I am 54 years old and have been overweight since I was 7 or 8 years old. I was going on a liquid diet through her practice and it was so darn hard, I was HUNGRY!!! I told her if this didn't work I was going to have to consider bariatric surgery. She listened to me, and then said, "I don't want you to consider having bariatric surgery as a failure. Obesity is recognized as a disease. You need to treat it in a way that works for you". I started the preop process unsure, and now I continue 90% sure its the right thing for me....its a little scary (and I am an RN for 32 years, so imagine my thoughts at times). But surgery is June 22......and here I go. Looking forward to another try at being successful and believing this time is the charm!! Good luck to all!!!

Me too, Mary! My son's graduation is on 6/10, and we actually have to drive to another state for it (we moved just before the school year ended! I am seriously considering rescheduling the surgery for a couple of weeks later. I don't want to sit through the graduation with the killer headache that I know I'm going to get after starting the pre-op diet on 6/8 for a 6/22 surgery. Not to mention, we are supposed to move into a new house on 6/30. I thought I'd timed this well with avoiding the holidays and all our birthdays...not so much

Mary2016 got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Does anyone's goal weight still leave them "overweight" or "obese"?
In the past, I lost 160 pounds on weight watchers and regained 100. My lowest weight was 137 lbs at 5 ft 4 inches. When I look at pictures I was fit, but saggy skin. I felt good, but every time I got out of bed, my vision would black out for a brief 1-2 seconds, never blacked out....hit many a wall though. I don't have to be 137 lbs. My goal is between 165-175. I just want to be comfortable. My arthritis is killing me. Actually, one of my biggest fears is that I won't be able to stop losing weight. I never had a true goal with weight watchers either, just wanted to be healthier. And I was....for a while.
You decide your goal. Nobody knows your body like you do.

coffee doesn't officially dehydrate, but due to caffeine's diuretic effect, it doesn't hydrate you as well as Water. You would have to increase your Fluid intake if you are drinking caffeinated beverages. Headaches can be due to dehydration AND caffeine withdrawal. I don't know why the theory would be if you are not drinking your coffee you are not drinking at all. But anyhow....I plan to wean off the caffeine preop and eventually go back on. Coffee isn't the best choice.

I get headaches as well without having coffee. But I think it is usually due to the lack of caffeine. I LOVE my coffee. However, one of the biggest complications from bariatric surgery is dehydration, which caffeinated beverages are not a help. So....my plan is to go Decaf at least for 1/2 my coffee 2 weeks prior, then all decaf for the week prior to surgery. And slowly add back in decaf coffee after surgery until I can get in all my liquids....then back to regular coffee slowly. I have no intention of staying off of it forever. Have I mentioned...i LOVE my coffee. Good luck.
