To PUKE or not to PUKE.......

Do you really need someone to tell you, DONT VOMIT!!! dont want that to sound harsh......but, dont vomit and stop when you recognize the full/too full feeling. but the answer is still NO

    To fill or unfill?

Oh Paleeeeze, you know you need an unfill. If you could barely get down liquids and are still struggling...........unfill. Dont damage your band or health. Get an unfill.

    Are you banded??

This is a fabulous poll!!!! I think we see the issues some bandsters have (seriouss) and lose track of how many of us there are here. It is still a percentage.
  5. Ohhhhh. She is asking for BMI before banding. I was right at 40, just below. (but that is post surgery........lowest bmi is under 25. At 20-25 years was still around 150 lbs, under 25 at about 130.)

    Why go to Mexico???

Loving Dr. Sanchez here too!!! Firewheel, if you are thinking of e-pylori bacteria (most common stomach ailment), it causes ulcers and ulcer like symptoms, antibiotics take care of it. Wouldnt really matter if it was discovered before or not. It is the most common cause of stomach problems that used to be attributed to "stress". Antibiotics are the treatment. The antibiotics you get with the surgery get rid of EVERYTHING anyway, lol!! (if it is bacterial related, anyway)

    Suicidal thoughts with obesity?

Never Never have I ever considered suicide. I am such a happy go lucky person. It could be better, but that is what always keeps me going. I am the eternal optimist. If things are bad there is only one place to go.........and no, it is not farther down, lol!!!

    Att. Sanchez patients

Thanks dear!!!!! I am also a Dr. Sanchez patient and have not heard of any problems related to his surgical method or in relation to his patients. I dont know if the erosion issues with some bandsisters are do to placement, personal physical tolerance, where surgery was performed, etc.... I do know that it is a gamble. Who can say if the doctor, surgical method, fills etc, that are to blame. Inamed has statistics stating that 25% of all bandsters will be unbanded at some point. I know that I am very new and with the statistics here lately I want to take care of myself and do the most justice I can in the next year. If I ever lose my band I will live on Weight Watchers Smart Ones and Lean Cuisine, LMOA!!!

    Why go to Mexico???

The lapband surgery is no riskier than a Gallbladder, Fibroidectomy (myomectomy), or appendix removal surgery. They dont do all the expensive pretesting for any of those. The psych eval I can understand.... I personally went because I am self pay. I paid $8000 for the total deal and my surgeon arranged a fill and followup doctor within an hour drive that charges $100. I am happy with everything.
  11. My bmi was higher, but under 40. I am 5' 4 and a half" and was at 229 going into surgery. But I am one of those people that wishes I had done something sooner. I spent 9 years dieting myself from 160 to 190, back and forth, and the next 5 to go to 230. I wish I would have had the chance to make a permanent change downward before it affected my health. I am not even 40 yrs old (yet, but soon) and have Metabolic syndrome...high cholesterol, borderline high blood pressure, and insulin resistance. All are related to weight and poor diet choices, with a smidgen of heriditary involved. Makes me feel bad and puts me at the highest risk for heart disease,,,,,,,,,,,didnt hit that category until I was over 200. So consider all aspects of your health before you do something as drastic as surgery. There are possible complications. That said, I wish had stopped the downward (upward) spiral pounds ago.

    Tight too full

Why dont you give your band a rest with a day of liquids and then try a process of elimination? Devote at least 2 or 3 days to eating the right amounts of the right foods, small bites, and chewing well. If you still have problems with sliming and vomiting, it is too tight. (If you have no more problems then you know what you need to work on...those all important bandster rules!!)

    Wal-Mart has everything.....

LMAO!!! Thanks for starting my day with a smile!
  15. My doctor said to stay away from the nsaids because they irritate the stomach, maybe take Tylenol instead. You can even get the childrens Tylenol liquid, it goes down easy. Dont worry to much about the bathroom thing, I didnt go for 3 days.....and you wont go much or as often until you get more solids back in your diet. If you get uncomfortable due to constipation try adding some Metamucil fiber to your protien shake. Glad you are feeling so good!
  16. I agree that you need a small unfill. Are you really needing a fill when you have them, and how many fills have you had in 4 months? If you are losing weight that fast and having problems with each new fill it may be because your band is already snug enough and the fill is making it a tad bit too tight each time. I am surprised your doctor hasnt slowed down on the fills.

    Stomach pain

It seems that if your fill was a month ago and you are having problems everday that you probably need a tiny unfill. Not only will it make you feel better, it is probably better for your band in the long run if you dont stay too tight for so long.

    OTC Sleep Aid??

OMG, I am the worst insomniac! I have luck when I take some Benadryl, it is an allergy med but the side effect is drowsiness. It is also the ingredient in Tlyenol PM, and I know that both are okay with the band. (I get childrens tylenol liquid). There is no reason not to help yourself get a good nights sleep.

Who uses a Psycic? Band Related Reading

I haven't done the pyschic but I had my palm reading done last year. It was pretty cool. She rolled my hands with ink and did the reading of the inkprints left on paper. I got to take the paper prints and a tape of the reading home. She was eeriely dead on about many things. She said I had no children and everyone always assumes that I do since I am married and in my 30s. She also insisted that I "have a book in me". She was pretty excited and said "oh, you have a book in you! I dont see that very often." She said that meant that I should/could write a book and it would be successful. I find that a little ironic since I majored in literature. I cant remember all the things she said but I remember I left there convinced that it was all legit. That surprised me because I only had it done because one of my girlfriends and myself had been in the pool drinking way too much and went and had the readings done on a whim!! Prior to that I always thought psychics/palm readers were just a little hocus pocus scam...like "tell them what they want to hear". That was not the case at all. Now I want to have it done again....my curiousity is aroused anew, lol!
  20. I am glad this post came back to life. I was banded by Dr. Sanchez in October and I can also attest to the wonderful care I recieved. The hospital, staff, and care were just all top notch.

Getting banded tomorrow Dec 2 2005

Hang in there! It is normal to have nerves right now. Give yourself a full week or 2 to recover and start feeling better and you will glad you took this step.

Anyone at less than 800 calories?

I just got my first fill Monday morning and with that day of liquids and Tuesday being mushies (some oatmeal for b and 3/4 cup veggie soup for l, PB'd supper and had a slimfast optima) I did my fitday totals and I am under 600 for both Mon and Tues, not much more for today so far. I am feeling like I took a sleeping pill this morning. I know my body doesnt feel good and my energy sinks when I go below 1000. I feel tired and lethargic, I will definitely be eating a heartier supper tonite and working back to healthier amounts. However, I dropped 2 lbs since Monday, just isnt worth it to feel so dragged down though.

    has anyone stretched their stomach

I was told to eat small bites, chew well, take my time to eat...30-45 min. I was also told that if you are spending more than 45 min to an hour on a meal that the pouch will start emptying while you are still eating, and you can eat too much. I personally dont know of anyone that has actually stretched their pouch, interesting question. Seems like it would just make you PB if you overate so much that your pouch was stretched.
  24. liannatx

    How often do you PB?

I only have 5 weeks under my belt and have PB'd twice. I tried to eat a bisquit when I was adding solid foods back in and boy did it not go down. Painful and tons of spitting up mouthfuls of goop before the bread came back up. It definitely isn't like vomiting for me, it is more like a baby spitting up. No heaves or anything, it just comes up with that last glob of slime. Did it again today (had first fill Monday) with a bite of garlic bread. Bread is out for me, it just isnt worth it.
