I honestly don't think it was one moment; but I used to be athletic and cute [emoji23]
I injured my ankle and the weight just packed on after that. I didn't want to go out with friends anymore. Had no interest in dating. No energy for activities with my son.
Summer of 2015, at 260 lbs, I could not get on a ride a Six Flags. I was embarrassed, and my son was pissed (not at me, but at the park for not making rides to accommodate fat people).
For the first time, earlier this year, I needed a seatbelt extender on a flight from Chicago to Boston.
I'm single, so I also noticed that men began to look right through me, or avoid eye contact altogether (not that I want attention like that, but in my cuter days I'd at least get eye contact and a smile lol). I just began to realize that I couldn't be myself in the body I was in. I hated looking around a room to realize I'm the fattest one in it.
The constant back and neck pain. I stopped having my period. Constant headaches. Brain fog. Honestly, the list is too long to drill it down to a single moment.
I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired. And I became lonely. And I felt like I was letting son down. I'm still struggling with knowing that I can't eat 4 tacos in one sitting, because... well... duh, tacos are amazing, but I'm excited to begin learning how to love foods that will love me back [emoji7]

Day 3 post-op. I'd love to know how to get this disgusting taste out of my mouth. Post-op guide says no gum. It's weird because I'm not hungry, but I want to chew something just to get this awful taste out. I'm assuming my breath is pretty rank, too, although I haven't asked anyone to confirm that . I'm sure I'm not the only one. Anyone found a good solution for this?

Glad to see so many people are doing this. I was sleeved 3 weeks ago and have been enjoying eggs with cheese. Lox with cream cheese. tuna or egg salad with mayo. I ate an avocado plain and it upset my stomach. I even did bullet proof coffee. I still do a Protein Shake mixed with cold cinnamon coffee, even though they don't encourage whey Protein on Keto. I can't choke down a protein shake by itself anymore though. I might be ruined from all the Protein Shakes ???? I also started walking today. I don't even think about bread or sugar really. I think I've just told myself that those are foods that don't fit into my lifestyle anymore. So far so good!

Anyone start eating Keto right out of the gate? Like as soon as you were off of soft foods, etc? I'm still a few weeks away from the normal diet phase, but I'm not thrilled about the idea of living off of sugar-free/fat-free products. I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to tolerate the fats associated with keto, so I'm curious what others' experiences have been.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Were you eventually able to tolerate sausage? Or do you find that you still have that problem?

2 weeks and 2 days post op. It feels like I had surgery a month ago, other than the scabs on my tummy [emoji4] I can drink Water no problem. Only thing that has really irritated my tummy so far is avocado. Almost gave me instant heart burn. I hope it's not permanent because I LOVE avocado. I've tried mozarella. olives. Cream cheese. eggs, scrambled and over medium. Colby/jack cheese. Egg salad. tuna salad. mayo with both. All have been fine. I do find that my taste for certain foods have definitely changed. I would really love to have some cooked meat and veggies. I might be trying out some crockpot chicken and veggies. Protein Shakes are basically gag-inducing at this point. I'm just glad that I am tolerating pretty much all foods so far.
Oh and I'm down 27 lbs from the start of my pre-op liquid diet [emoji4] so that's 4 weeks and 2 days ago!

Tomorrow I have another follow up visit with the nice CRNP at the surgeon's office. I have seen my blood work, and all my numbers look great, with the exception that I seem to be a little low on zinc. Maybe they will try to rezinc my settings while I am there to see if that helps. But that's not why I am posting.
No, I started this process in warm, sunny, June. I showed up for all my appointments in sandals and shorts. Even as the weather grew cooler, I was able to show up in stretchy pants and my sandals, because I was coming right back home. I dressed that way to be consistent on the scale for their records.
Well tomorrow, I've got to leave out of the doc's office on errands, visits, familial obligations, etc. and I am NOT going to prance about the countryside in stretchy pants. No way. I'm going with my regular dress and load out for my belt and pockets, and THAT is going to add to the scale. I'm gonna have some 'splainin' to do. They will think I hijacked the Tastykake truck.
Note to self: Don't schedule appointments on errand day.

First time I heard about the Keto diet was a year after surgery. I liked that it burns fat instead of using carbohydrates for energy. I eat avocados, real butter, and eggs.
Pork sausage is also hard for me. I still eat turkey sausage.

I'm having sausage and eggs for Breakfast this morning. I personally am not a huge fan of turkey sausage unless it is wild turkey. I will agree that I think that the pork fat is what causes the issue with sausage. Pork fat mixes in well with game meats and I had a problem with bear sausage that was made with pork fat.

If you are consuming less than about 50g of carbs a day (most patients still on liquids post op are) you are likely in ketosis. The bad breath is a side effect, and there's not much to be done about it. Ketosis is the goal of low carb eating, so if your surgeon's eating plan calls for low carb, you'll get used to it.

Oh and worth posting everytime someone posts, 'I ate pizza after 3 days', 'I ate a hog roast on the way home from hospital;, 'I ate 5 packets of chips (crisps in the uk) on day 2 because I couldnt stand another day without chewing anything' types of posts.
