Kaiser Los Angeles Options Locations - What has been your experience?
almond_jay replied to thisfathasgot2go's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Steve Puckett I just finished my Kaiser program and I was told all the surgeons at South Bay and West LA staple. I even asked if he sews and they said no. So just to be clear, Dr. Mun does sew everything even laproscopically? I'm really curious because I do have a lot of concerns about staples, although everyone says they are safe. I just don't like the idea of them forever in my stomach. Thanks! -
Options Prgm with Kaiser

I actually finished today! I believe over all I only lost about 12 pounds but that's a steady loss. I always lose really slow anyway. THAT'S WHY I NEED SURGERY!! I finished today because I went to a make up class the day before my actual class. I hope that helps and doesn't hurt me. How much have you lost? -
Hello sleevers! I wanted to start a topic for anyone who has Kaiser and has or is going to have surgery at Kaiser South Bay. I'm nearing the end of Options and I'm looking into doing my surgery at South Bay. Any suggestions for surgeons? Are any of them really strict when it comes to pre surgery weight loss?? In case you can't tell I'm struggling with the weight loss during Options. I'm always a slow loser (hence why I need surgery) and of course that causes me to sometime sabotage myself. Right now I'm only at about 12-13 pounds lost and 10% for me is 30. I'm a little worried. I only have 1 more week of Options. HELP!

So I'm getting close to my surgery for Gastric Sleeve which is causing me to become obsessed with blogs and youtube. I keep hearing about hair loss! I'm getting super stressed out...my hair is already super thin on the top because of hypothyroidism and obesity. I'm worried there will be nothing left! Is it time for me to start researching wigs??
-
@@Christinamo7 I'm also really trying to make sure I get in a good habit of getting enough Protein in but I hear even with that hair still sheds. It's looking like wig shopping it is! I definitely still want the surgery even if I have to be a little bald for a while. Just the way it is I guess.

Problems staying motivated during Pre op weight loss

@@Ashley Nd Michael Fisher Which area are you in with Kaiser? I heard that not everyone has to reach the 10% weight loss to get surgery. I know I'm only at about 5% and I'm hoping they dont turn me away because of it. -
Can I choose the VSG with Kaiser Permanente
almond_jay replied to 4mykids's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am also with Kaiser. The one I go to is in Downey. That is where I attended 12 weeks of the option classes. Since they don't do bariatric surgery there, I am having it done at Kaiser South Bay, in Harbor City. By Dr. Edward Mun, who I understand is one of the best surgeons in the country for this type of surgery. I went in, wanting the RNY, but Dr. Mun thought the sleeve would be best for me because I am considered high risk do to some other health factors. So yes, you do get to choose. But a GOOD doctor will also tell you his/her opinion and help guide you into a surgery that is best for you to succeed! Good Luck to you! P.S. Sorry about the double post! I hadn't realized I had already commented on this thread... @@bettyboop I know you had the surgery years ago but I'm thinking of going with Dr Mun...was he a stickler for you losing 10% of the weight before doing the surgery? -

The post surgery pain is what I'm afraid of. Ugh...but I'll get through it. Sounds like it was all worth it.

@@fancystephanie Sorry for all the questions...but I'm nearing the end of options and I'm going to have to chose a doctor and everything soon. Did you have a lot of pain? And when did you go back to work?

@@AshleyMcN23 How was South Bay? We have the option of South Bay or West LA and I want the fastest facility. I'm hearing now that West LA is booking for Mid May already which is really far out for me. I want the sooner the better. -
@@fancystephanie Could you give us an update and how the surgery went? I'm doing Kaiser Options on Sunset but I may be assigned to South Bay or West LA. I totally agree with the crazy idea that they are making us lose weight and then the reason we are there is because we never have been successful at losing weight.

@@d258 oh no!! That really sucks...and someone on here got in super quick only a month ago. Must be a lot of people with new years resolutions getting surgery. lol I guess my dream of an April surgery is out the window. Yesterday in options I was told they may send us to South Bay if its too crowded at West LA. I wonder what their schedule is looking like. -

You already finished the program and had a surgery consult? I thought that you wait for them to call you and give you an appointment. Are they booked from now until May? That sucks! -

@ I noticed that a couple of people have posted they had surgery in 2 weeks of meeting with the surgery through West LA. I think it may be because a lot of people haven't finished classes over the holidays. I'm hoping I can get in there in April...at the latest May. They told us in the class the doctor suggest at least 1 month off. I know a lot of people go back in 2 weeks though. I have tons of time off saved as well as short term disability (I work for the government as well) so I think I'm going to use it. I don't have any hard labor but I hear your going to be super tired, plus they gave us the Water schedule and you seriously have to focus on it. My job is pretty high stress and fast pace so I need time off to focus on my recovery. Protein, I've been trying a few things. Our Options teacher gave us the option to order their (Kaiser's) Meal Replacement Protein powder and it tastes pretty good. It's just super expensive. I've tried Nector brand and its actually not too bad. A lot of people in my class drink premier. -

@ I've had my set backs...lol I'm down 11 pounds as of last week, class 8. It's so hard! I gained like 2 pounds week 6 I think. Stupid Anniversary weekend. I think the next 6 week classes are more about emotional eating and some on post op diet. I've noticed they really don't cover a lot of post op stuff until the very end. We haven't covered Vitamins yet. We did talk about Protein shakes though. Class 8 was scary in the sense that they told us how little we will be eating for a while after surgery. That part was scary. However, I'm super excited to move forward and get this done. Do you know how long your going to take off? -
@@thegentleoso How did you get a surgery date so quickly? I read that a lot of people have to wait for a couple of months.
