    Can we talk carbs?

Complex carbs are necessary to your overall health. If you avoid carb you are not giving your body what it needs to stay healthy and all the Protein w/out good carbs is extremely hard on your kidneys. Now simple sugars and carbs...I would stay away from those. But your body needs those good carbs just like it needs protein and Vitamins and minerals!
  2. I just received my approval and am on the schedule for August 1 @ 12:30. I have to be there by 10:30. I can have Clear liquids until 8:30 that am. Lots of Water to make my IV stick easier. I go in July 18 for pre-op work...which I assume is just blood work. I am very excited that is now approved and approaching quickly!!!!

    We're we told.....

I cannot recommend ablation. I had it and all was well for about a year then I had horrible pain. I had fibroids growing on the outside of my uterus. They could not grow inside due to the ablation. I had a hysterectomy not long after. I kept my ovaries. The hysterectomy was the best decision of my life! That and this new sleeve. =)

I am a week post op today. I know if I drink crystal light it makes my mouth super dry. I do not know why. I just know it happens. I am good with plain ole water!

    Headaches Anyone?

Are you still on narcotic pain meds? They tend to give me a headache. Do makes sure you are consuming plenty of liquids and at day 3 I get to start adding protein shakes back in. Lack of protein might be the reason as well. Talk to your doctor.
  7. Just had the surgery yesterday @ 1:00. I am doing good. I was in pain in recovery but the worked very hard and were successful with my pain control. I am sure where you are having your surgery that the doctors and nurses will be as wonderful about keeping you comfortable. Ice chips are my best friend right now!!! Never thought I would be so excited about ice chips. My new tummy is handling cold ice/water very well right now. I tried some crystal light but it dried out my mouth and throat horribly. They brought me some broth...very salty. I am going to try Jello for Breakfast and see how it goes. I will be released in a few hours so I only have to stay 1 night in the hospital. I am very thankful for that! Hang in there and remember the reasons why you decided to do this. I am only about 13 1/2 hours out and I am thankful I had it done. Now on to healing!
  8. It is finally almost here. Tomorrow is my surgery. This time tomorrow night I will be on the losers bench. Whooohoooo!!! My main concern is feeling nauseated after surgery and struggling to get fluids in. That and then not letting me have fluids or even ice chip the first day/night after. I am bring biotene spray and chap stick so hopefully that will help. My goal is to get ASAP after surgery. Pain or no pain I am fighting through it. I have had 3 c-sections, back surgery and a hysterectomy so I am familiar with general anesthesia and surgical pain. I really would like to only spend one night in the hospital. We'll see. So...here I go!!!
  9. I have finished my 6 months of nutrition classes, had my psych evaluation, and met with the surgeon who will be doing my sleeve surgery today. Now we wait for insurance approval. I have Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield Basic. Has anyone out there been approved with the same insurance? I am 5'3 and 270 so I do have a very high BMI. I also have high blood pressure controlled with medication. Thank you in advance for your responses. Oh also, how long until you received your approval or were denied?
  10. I am scheduled for Aug. 1 in SW MO.
  11. It has seems to have been a long time coming. I started all this at the beginning of the year. I think the liver reduction diet makes me the most nervous.

    Time

I had to wait until insurance came back with the approval to get on the surgeon's schedule. My turn around was a week. I very sweetly called insurance daily.
  13. I did keep in constant contact with the insurance company. I was always very nice but told them I needed this expedited because of my husband's vacation time and that I teach. I got the approval today!!!! Now, I am waiting for the doctor's office scheduler lunch hour to be over to get on their schedule ASAP! I feel like I can breathe but will do so if it can take place during husband's vacation time.
  14. Thank you so much for your reply. I am an elementary teacher and I resigned my position at my school. My plan is to take a year off so that I can focus on my health. My insurance is through my hubby's job. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. If I do not hear something soon I will absolutely call. I did 6 months of classes because that is what the bariatric program is here in SW MO. Your information was extremely helpful so thank you, again!!!

    Any Missouri people

Glad you are doing well. I am just at the beginning of this. My first NUT appointment is the 18th...then the psych later at the end of the month. Insurance requires 3 months of nutrition counseling.
