how many incisions?
I was only suposed to have one but once they got in there they had to do another tiny one. The bigger one is where my port is and its prob two inches long. The tiney one is just above the first incision and is about a quarter inch long.

ANyone else thrown up??
Yeah Ive thrown up a few times. Well PBd not really threw up. It feels different because its just sitting right on top and my throat feels like it flexes, not my stomich. Its weird because I dont feel like I have any restriction, but a few times when I havent chewed well and eating too fast, BOOM. Right back up. I always have time to run to the bathroom though. I have a min or two where I feel it coming on. I did have an episode where it happend in the car. I thought I was going to have to spew into a cup of tea. But that time I lucked out and was able to hold it down until it passed through the band. That would have been pretty gross. I think I may need to start keeping barf bags in my car lol. Gross! (but not as gross as puking in a cup of iced tea)!

Felt Normal Yesterday
Yes I totally want the same thing. I cant wait to feel normal. Right now I dont even feel like I have a band b/c of no restriction, but I know when I do have restriction I want the same thing as you; to be able to eat what I want, just not to over eat.

No Fair!
Hi ABC, Sounds like your doc wants to move things right along for you. I am three weeks out and my port insicion is still tender. I was thinking that even thought I want a fill, it would hurt. Did it hurt to get your fill? Was your port insicion still tender? I wish I had some restriction. So whats a Swiss band? I didnt get that in my choices. Do you live in the US? Or is this a band they use in other countries? You and I have close to the same stats with regard to BMI and weight loss.

I'll be glad when I can........

Gross! My first PB
So I guess Ive experianced the dreaded unknown and thought Id let everyone know what it was like. Every week I get to add new things to my diet and so this week I got to add baked chicken. Yesterday, I took my second bite of some chicken and all of a sudden started getting the golf ball feeling. I now know exactly why its called productive burping. It felt like I had to burp REALLY bad. It like came from my throat, not my stomich. At first I did keep the food down and just let a few little burps out; but then I knew I had to just let it come up when my chest was getting a tight feeling, so I got to the bathroom and let it happen. It really wasnt too bad. I dont know exactly why I pb'd. Id only had a few bits and what came up was chewed to liquid. It didnt hurt and I pb'd twice in a row and then it was over. The tight feeling and golf ball went totally away and I felt 100% better. I think it would have been a lot worse if I would have gotten the "sliming" effect. I didnt have any of that and Im thankful for that because what Ive read about "sliming" seems really gross. I was too scared to finish my lunch, but I probably could have. The good news is that if I was at a public place, I would have had time to make it to the bathroom, which is something I was always worried about. It was still gross though even though it wasnt bad and didnt really hurt.

Good Night and Good Luck

No Fair!
Im not as upset as I was that day. Its hard to hear about people losing twenty pounds in the first month when I havent even lost five since surgery. I was on mushies, I have started solids yesterday and I was full longer, although I can still eat way too much. The mushie stage wasnt doing me favors though. A lot of the things I was eating were mushed with mayo or other high calorie substances. Hopefully now that Im onto solids I can lose some weight. I have to hold myself accountable right now. My tool has no restriction so its up to me to make good choices. And yeah, life isnt fair. I should just be happy I have my band and I will start losing in the next few months instead of being impatient. It took me years to save up for this band. Whats another month in the long run.

Desperately Need My Band!!!
I had to cancell twice. You will get your band. And it will be that much sweeter. Hang in there.

7/7 bandster question
My friend who has a band is three years out and you can see her port sticks out a little bit. Its not real noticible, but if you look for it, you can see the bump. She said it got worse after she lost more weight. She is thinking about getting a revision surgery to place it in a new spot. She's waiting on her tummy tuck though so that she can do it at the same time.

those of you with ideal restriction
Thanks for the info! I found it. But that post seems to be mostly from people who are only banded in the last eight weeks or so. Im looking more for responses from people who are further out and have more restriction.

those of you with ideal restriction
What do you eat on a typical day, and how much at one sitting? Can you take me through breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks?

No Fair!
 I called my after care physician to sched my first fill, which I could really use today, but being that Im only a few weeks out I was prepared to sched for the standard six weeks out. Come to find out my Dr is on vacation that week. And I have to wait an additional week and two days. I know that doesnt sound like much but I really cant even feel my band anymore. It was like there one day, gone the next. The swelling went down and boom I am starving again. I just dont want to wait an extra week and a half. Also, I found out he wont do fills any closer than four weeks apart. So my second fill isnt for another four weeks at the soonest after my first. I think thats so stupid since everyone says they have like ZERO restriction after their first fill. I was thinking it would be like two weeks after the first fill, not four weeks. No fair!! Everyone else on here gets their second fill a week or two after their first and I have to wait a month. Im going to go pout. Its going to be months before I start losing any weight and that just totally bums me out. I know I need to be patient, but its hard to see everyone else get their fills closer together while I sit around with no progress.

One Week Banded
Hi Chocolate, I was banded just a few days before you. I laughed when you talked about passing up the samples at the store! I had the same thing happen to me! I was in Mexico at this store called the HEB and they have free samples at every corner like Costco. I was only two days out of surgery so I just grabbed my chicken broth and got the hell out of there as fast as I could. It totally sucked! And the girls at the store were like, "are you sure you dont want one?? Just one??" lol

Need some encouragement
I also gained once I started the Mushie phase of the diet. We put our bodies into starvation mode with the super low cal sugar free liquid phase of the diet. Our bodies are hanging onto every calorie we put into it right now because of that. Give your body a few weeks to adjust and come to terms that you arnt trying to starve it and you will start losing again. Also I think its important to be kind to yourself and have realistic expectaions. I think Drs should warn people more that we will prob gain weight back when we move to mushies since we put ourselves into starvation mode. Our bodies can only do what they do naturally. Be kind to yourself and be patient. Its an important part of this journey to learn to love ourselves and stop being so hard on ourselves regarding our weight.

Freedom Fighters Weekly Weigh In
Ugh, I didnt lose anything since last Monday. But I started mushies on Thursday and weighed myself then. I had lost another pound and a half. I gained that back since starting mushies. Im exactly where I was last Monday now. Im not going to be too hard on myself though. I honestly expected it because we put our bodies into starvation mode on this liquid diet. I think my body will stop freakin in the next few weeks. This was honestly to be expected. Its really not good to go down to like a five hundred calories a day which is about what I was doing on the liquid sugar free diet I was on for two weeks. Because as soon as you start feeding yourself again, your body treats 1200 calories like its 3000 because its hanging onto every single calorie afraid that your still starving. I think once my body is back on track in the next few weeks, I will have a good weight loss again. Gonna stay positive!! :crying: Surg Date 7/16/2009 7/20/2009 -1.5 lbs total loss 1.5 lbs 7/23/2009 -1.5 lbs total loss 3.0 lbs 7/27/2009 +1.5 lbs total loss 1.5 lbs

July 31st is my day
You will feel better before you know it. I am close to two weeks out now and I felt like a new woman after one week post op. Hang in there and know you will feel sooo much better in a few days.

Post Op Foods, Phase 3
I did egg salad with low fat mayo. Ive also done a lot of refied beans. I made cream of potato soup and put a little shredded cheese on top. I also made scalloped potatos. I went to taco bell with my family and had pintos and cheese, but my daughter had nacho supreme and I ended up eating a little bit of her toppings (not the chips). Yum fake cheese sauce lol. Its so bad but its so good. I wont do that one again though. Too many calories. I havent tried meat yet. My diet says I can have canned chicken or tuna, and ground beef. But I dont eat tuna; and canned chicken just sounds gross to me. Tonight Im going to make meatloaf and gravy and mashed potatos. Hopefully the ground beef goes ok. Im thinking the gravy will help wash it down. My Dr says to drink water with my meals untill I am on week six. After week six I am not ever suposed to drink with meals again. Thats going to be a hard one!

My Mexico Thread
I wanted to add my surgery story to this thread: Day of Surgery: I overslept and so I was rushing to get my bags packed and and check out of my hotel room. I was able to get the cab secured and checked out and I thought Id have enough time to get to the hospital. Well then the cab made a stop to get gas, and a stop to pick up another couple who were going somewhere next to the hospital so I wound up late. They made me fill out a few forms and took me to my room. I dropped off my bags and they took me to surgery floor. I got naked as a Jay-Bird and put on my cute gown (ha ha) with the open part at my backside. I was in a section of rooms made by hanging sheets. I had my own little room section. They started an IV and gave me a pill to 'relax'. I asked for my book and they went and got it out of my room for me, but by the time they brought it to me I had fallen asleep. My doc wakes me up two hours later and it was time for surgery. Because I had been late they did someone else before me. I called hubby to let him know I hadn't had mine yet and was just getting ready to go in. Doc told hubby he'd call him when it was over. They wheel me into a room and a anesthesia doc asks me what I want to dream about. I laugh and say Hawaii. He says, "How bout Hawaii in a bikini?" and so I say, "sure......" Then there is nothing. I wake up to my doc and anesthesia doc both calling my name loudly and firmly over and over. I am being lifted onto another table. I try to schootch myself and help them a bit, but I'm really out of it. They wheel me to a recovery room that has a glass wall looking to the nurses station. The nurses rarely come in because they can see me and the monitors from their station, plus they don't speak English so its not like they come in to talk to me. They only come in to give me water and make sure its going down. I drift in and out, but I'm trying to stay awake because I want to go back to my room. I am surprised at the pain. I didn't think I would be in pain, but I am slowly noticing the pain a little more and a little more at a time as the drugs wear off. It was bearable, but more than I had expected. After I can make myself stay awake for a half hour strait they wheel me back to my room. Its been over two hours but feels so much shorter. My Dr assistant Dr Guzman comes in and talks to me. I don't remember much. I ask him to tell the nurses to bring me ice chips since I don't know how to ask them in Spanish. I cant remember what we talk about. I think he watches me drink water to make sure it goes down. Then I get dinner a few hours later consisting of chicken broth and watered down juice. It goes down fine. Then bring me a crushed up sleeping pill in water. Its gross, but it helps me fall asleep and not wake up until morning.

Side Ache?
