  1. I know someone who was slipped for weeks before they went to the doctors and they were able to drink water with a slipped band. Maybe that is usually the case that you cant drink water, but not always. So if you think something is wrong with your bad your best bet is to get checked by your doctor. I just wouldnt use the if you can drink rule of thumb if you are truely concerned that you are slipped.
  2. Kevin, that must have been the same lady and her daughter Casey. Thats too bad we didnt get a chance to say hi to eachother. I feel good today. Happy to go home. I leave for the airport in less than two hours. I will be awake when I fly over MX City. My second flight leaves from there lol. So Ill see it up close.
  3. Lisa, Im totally with you on the burps and Im on liquids too. I burp like a sailor about 20 min after I finish my liquid and it gurggles down from my pouch into my big stomich. Then a few min later.....**RALPH** I cant controll it. It actually scared me at first that kind of noise coming out of me. Ive never burped like that in my life, now it happens at least three times a day. Im afraid elegant dinners will be out of the question! :wink2:
  4. Shout out: When I went to my preop apt I met another woman there getting banded by my Dr the same day as me and staying in my hotel. She had brought her 19 year old daughter along with her for support. Being the kind hearted woman from Oaklahoma she is, she befriended me and her and her daughter have kept me company and checked in on me the whole time Ive been here. Bless her heart! I havent been alone and she has truely earned my friendship. I am so thankful to have met her and had someone to go through this with. She also has the same pain issues and nausia issues as I do, so its been nice to talk eachother through it. I gave her the info to the lapbandtalk website because she doesnt have any bandster's support at home and I hope she comes here.
  5. Hi Kev, I was banded by Dr Rubaut. Yes was banded at that hospital. I stayed at the Hampton Inns and I was so impressed with how smoothly they work with band patients. They seriously have it down to an art and the staff at the hotel has totally held my hand threw everything. I have a long flight as well as a three hour lay over in Mexico City. Ugh. Not looking forward to it AT ALL. But I really do miss my family and cant wait to get home. Its great that you didnt have any pain. My pain gets better everyday, as long as I can keep the nausia at bay.
  6. Im newly banded and everytime I eat or drink I have to belch a HUGE belch. Its so embarrassing, but theres no way I could hold it in. I cant imagine ever going out to dinner again if it continues, or else Im going to have to get really good at quietly burping. These are like HUGE SALOR burps that would make my brother proud. Please tell me this is a temp thing?!
  7. Hi guys, I was just banded three days ago and have about 65 pounds to lose. Just wanted to pop in and say hi! I look forward to getting to know all of you and sharing tips and frustrations.
  8. Hi Tracy, welcome! You have such a great attitude about the liquid sugar free diet. Im a total whiner. I cant stand this stuff and come on here to vent frequently about it! lol Congrats on your band!
  9. Aw hon, sounds like youre stuck or you were and now your swollen. Ive never been stuck so I really dont know, but from what I hear its a feeling like a golf ball in the bottom of your throat. I dont know what you should do because the only bandsters I know who have talked about getting stuck were further out from surg than you. They just wait it out and go to liquids and feel better in a day or so. I guess you should call your Dr. Feel better and get back on the wagon. Liquids liquids!
  10. That guy is a serious A-hole. Thats all I have to say about that. I would have just given him a really WTF look, shook my head, walked away, and not think about him again. Eww what a pompus arogant creep
  11. As soon as I had my band my Dr said I could have full liquids which included pureed foods if they were liquid enough to suck threw a straw (but not to actually use a straw because thats a no-no). So I could have a blended banana with skim milk YUMMY. This morning I had a handfull of cherrios blended with skim milk ALSO YUMMY! Or I can have blended cream soups as long as they are really runny when blended. In two weeks I can start mushies which are soft foods that are not pureed or super runny. Then two weeks after that onto reg foods. Im so happy to be off my clear liquid diet!
  12. I am a self pay and in mexico right now. I go home tomorrow. I was banded on Thursday in Monterrey MX with Dr Rumbaut. My experience has been very good. I saved for my lapband for two years to come up with the money. In that time I read books on it, joined this website, and a local support group so I knew I was ready to make the change. I also found a dr who would see me locally for after care (that was a hard one!). I am so happy I made this choice. Even though Im in pain right now and cant eat anything but liquids for the past week, I still love my band! I hope to have a happy healthy lifetime with it! Just get that after-care lined up for sure!
  13. Youll be really tired at the end of your shift but at least its only four hours. If it was six or eight Id say youd never make it. You will prob need to take breaks and rest. Good luck and I hope you get lots of big tips!
  14. Barbie, how much weight did you lose on your preop diet. Youve already alomost lost 50 pounds! Thats amazing! How long did you have to do a preop diet for?
  15. Update, after the pitty party I just threw myself, my wonderful (and I must say VERY GOOD LOOKING) Dr's assistant came to my hotel room to check on me. I told him how nausiated and awful I felt, and the wonderful man had in his medical bag a shot of phentagram, or something that sounds like that. He simply gave me a shot right in the caboos. Within 20 min my nausia was so much better. He also switched my pain meds to something better. So a shot if this, a swig of that, and presto Im a new woman! I dont feel my best, but I feel a whole lot better with that nausia gone. That was just AWFUL! But much better now
  16. My first NSV was being brave enough to travel to Mexico by myself to get this band put in. I say it counts as an NSV.
  17. Woke up today in the dumps. I am nausious as hadies and Im so afraid that Im going to start puking my guts out. Deep breaths seem to help some. I feel worse than yesterday. I thought Id feel a little better everyday, but today Ive gone backwards. Please just hurry up and be tomorrow.
  18. I wish I could go to sleep and wake up one week later. This sucks...
  19. Hi Ma, welcome to bandland. I am three days post op. This site is great for support.
  20. Are you still on liquid diet? Mine is only a week then on to mushies. Ohh thank god. Honestly the worst part about traveling is that I dont have a kitchen to cook myself some food in. I could handle this better if I could make my own home-made cream of potato soup watered down with skim milk and blend it, or some home-made chilli watered with tomato juice, or real chick broth made from a chicken I boil. This nasty prepackaged stuff is so gross to me. Fake canned soups and broth from cubes. Eww! I know Im a food snob but whatever. I just like home cooked stuff. I am used to home cooked meals and this just isnt cutting it for me. Im onto full liquids now so I can have anything I can suck threw a straw (but Im not supposed to suck it threw a straw literally. Straws are a no no). When I get home Im gonna start cooking. At least Im not very hungry yet. So Ill keep suffering threw the sugar free yogurts and precanned garbage they call soups. And I hope I never see another sugar-free protein drink again. I want to puke just thinking about forcing them down. As soon as Im onto mushies Im going to eat as much soft chicken as it takes so I dont have to gag on those sugar free protein drinks!:cursing:
  21. I got the lap band because my Dr is in Mexico and so he doesnt use the realize band. The nutrionist said my band was 5cc's. I wanted the realize band because I had heard that food doesnt get stuck as much. But the down side to that of course is that the restriction isnt as strict so you might eat things that you shouldnt be eating. Im sure I will be happy with my allergin lapband. Its strictness will keep me honest!
  22. I have to stay here until Sunday. Since my Doctor is in Mexico, they dont let their US patients leave for five days because if I needed aftercare it would be expensive for me to pay out of pocket to see a US doctor. So I stay here for five days so we are totally sure Im good to go. I do have a doc lined up in CA but still I dont want any emergency visits if I can avoid them. Saw my Doctor again a few min ago. He said my surgery hurt worse than other people's because I have a single insicsion surgery. So there is a lot more tugging and pulling to get all the surgery untinsels in that one little insision and get around the stomich and liver. It makes that insicion very tender and the muscle really sore from all that tugging. Also he said he has to use more gas because he has to inflate the entire abdominal cavity from the one insicion he places up top. Now I understand why it was more painful than I had expected. Well Im sure it will get better every day. Im not hungry for the first time in my life. I got scolded for not drinking my juice or yogart. Im just so sick of the sugar free, crappy tasting poo Ive been eating could cry. Uh oh. There are those emotions again. I really hope that I can just eat normal things and not all this diet crap. I dont really like sweets so I figure as long as things in moderation once I am back on solids Ill say good bye to all this sugar free stuff. Plus I really dont think sweetner is very good for our bodies. Its all processed chemicals. Sugar is more natural and if you have it in really small quantities I dont see anything wrong with it. In two weeks Ill say good ridence to this sugar free stuff and focus on healthy solid foods like chicken and veggies.
  23. I had surgery yesterday and today I woke up hacking (which believe me doesnt feel good at all in my current state). I wasnt feeling sick at all when I went in for surgery yesterday. Im wondering if this is just a side effect from the anastesia when they put the tube down my throat and pumped air into my lungs. Or maybe Im getting sick? I really really really really really hope Im not getting sick. Anyone else get phlemmy after surgery?:scared2:
  24. I have to say that for some reason I am emotional. When I woke up from surgery I was in a lot more pain then I had expected. I dont speak spanish and my Doctor was gone and none of the nurses spoke english. They gave me a lot of pain meds but the second the meds would wear off, the pain was almost unbearable. I finally started crying. It wasnt just the pain, but O think because I was frustrated and tired and also in pain. It was a combo of all of it. The nurses just thought it was all pain since I couldnt explain it to them in spanish so they dosed me up like I was a horse and I was so high I forgot about being emotional. (even though the nurses dont speak English they are so very nice and try very hard to be helpful). When the meds wore off I was sad again, but at the same time so happy that I finally have my band. Weird. Every emotion is just really intense right now. Its like really bad PMS but I just ended that less than a week ago. Anyways, thought Id put it out there in case someone else feels that way they know they arnt alone. Emotional wreck over here! :scared2:
