jj7481 reacted to Djmohr in When was your weight loss?
I am 15 months post op. For me the biggest losses were in the first 4 months, then everything slows down but remains consistent with stalls every 4 to 6 weeks. The longest stall for me was 28 days.

I'm a Physician Assistant. Let me try to clarify some information you see:
HGB = Hemoglobin. This is the Protein on red blood cells that transports oxygen from the lungs to tissue, and CO2 back from tissue to lungs.
HCT = Hematocrit. This is the % of red blood cells in your blood (the rest being composed of white blood cells and plasma).
Low levels of HGB is anemia. From there we look at MCV on your labs which stands for Mean Corpusular Volume (the average volume of red blood cells). If a level is < 80, as in your case, it means you have what's termed microcytic anemia. Primary culprit = Iron Deficiency.
Biggest bit of advice I can give you is to be your own advocate. If you doctors aren't talking.....demand they do. You have the right to request your various doctors be on the same page for congruency of care. Regardless, keep in touch with them and if you aren't satisfied.....make that known.

I think most people are more familiar with the term "gastric bypass" rather than roux en y

One thing I truly don't understand is how many people come here to get something answered that they should really be asking their medical providers.
I would always suggest anyone to keep asking questions of your doctor until you 1) understand, and more importantly, 2) are very clear about what you are supposed to do.
I know many people are intimidated by medical folks, especially after the way many of us have been treated due to our obesity, but there is really no excuse for a doctor not to take time to make things clear.

Are you at 140 pounds 3 weeks after surgery? What was your starting weight and what is your goal weight?

Mind if I ask why you can't lose beyond 140 lbs? Was this restriction self imposed, or did you doctor advise you of this?
Like stated in the first reply you should definitely not be worry anytime soon. There are a lot of factors that play into your weight loss including your starting weight, level of activity, etc. The more you weigh typically the faster you'll lose. Regardless of that I wouldn't worry about losing too much. As long as you keep up with your f/u appointments, stay in touch with your doctor & nutritionist, and keep to the plan....you'll be fine.

Everyone loses at different rates at different times. You will stall and your weight loss will slow down, especially as you get close to goal.
Almost everyone in experiences their first stall about three weeks after surgery, so your weight loss will slow down or stall soon.
Don't let that discourage you. It's a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process.
    Just follow your program.

I was a little moody the first few weeks but then came this amazing energy and motivation. I'm not sure if I just feel better because my blood sugar is lower or what but I'll take it!

Thanks for your replies, it's good to see some of you have found this journey not as challenging as first thought. Only time will tell for me. I'm definitely a comfort eater so it will be interesting how this will affect my journey after my surgery.

I originally had the sleeve and was totally committed so yes it was easy for me. I followed my plan to a "T" and lost the weight I wanted to lose. THEN the hard part began. How do I keep it off. I have a hard time resisting foods once I start eating them so now I have to find healthy alternatives and literally stay away from any of my trigger foods; I will not be able to be successful if I "just have a bite/just have one/just have a handful".
I have to accept this life change as it is a big one; I will be a minority in the world of eating out, at parties, gatherings, bars, coffee shops, lunch outings etc......BUT I love wearing a size 6 and the way I feel and look. I pray everyday for the support and guidance I need to do this!!

Nope. I struggle at times with wanting to eat things I shouldn't, I still see the 250 lb woman I was before the surgery in the mirror at times (going to therapy for this), I struggle with plateaus even though I know it's a normal part of the process. I have to deal with people who don't understand the process telling me I am losing too much weight (even though I am still obese and a nurse at that!). I still have to talk myself into exercising at times. Despite all of this, overall I feel so much better. I wouldn't change it for anything.

Absolutely not. I'm currently in the Stage 2 diet meaning I can eat cottage cheese, yogurt, Soups, etc in 1-2 oz sittings. I have found that since I can now eat some solid food I want to resume eating more. The 1-2 oz fills me up but I find I'm having to exercise a great deal of restraint with not wanting to "nibble" on other Proteins. For now the carbs aren't a huge issue for me as I've done Atkins before with significant success.
