  1. Caffeine withdrawal stinks. I gave it up twice cold turkey for my pregnancies. With WLS I tapered slowly. No headaches, no withdrawal and no moodiness. Switched from reg coffee and Diet Coke to Decaf versions. One drink at a time. Then gave soda up all together after I kicked the caffeine habit. My addiction to Diet Coke was an addiction to caffeine. Giving up decaf Diet Coke was very easy.

  2. I had a very good friend that had bypass at 20. She is now 40. That operation allowed her to LIVE! I also encourage you to pursue it. These hurdles and obstacles are just part of the process for most of us. The regret I typically hear from WLS patients is that they wish they hadn't waited so long. I am also happy you have so much support from your family. That is awesome!

  3. Sure have. My wife got it and she is a klutz with very little balance. For her is was difficult at best and humorous for me to.watch. She was a bit upset when I was able to do it. I can't do it for long as I'm 5 weeks post op and it is tough on the still healing incisions.

So is working your core as they claim???

  4. I was on Metformin for PCOS before WLS and went off of it the day before my surgery. My surgeon was concerned with low blood sugar since it wasn't prescribed for diabetes. Never went back on it after surgery. I am also off Spironolactone prescribed for PCOS and and acne.

  5. Every plan is different. Some plans (the minority for sure) never want you to drink them. Not even post op. They take the don't drink your calories rule very seriously. Some plans people drink them for years, Indefinitely.

For me it was my choice under my plan. They were required/ recommended post op until you could get enough Protein without them. They made me sick as a dog so I worked hard to get my 80-100 grams without them as soon as possible. I stopped drinking them all together at 4 months. Hit my personal goal at 7 months and was at that point a normal BMI. 100% of my excess weight gone. I am proof it is about Protein. Not whether your protein is liquid or solid. Real food or artificial Protein powder. shakes will never keep you full like dense protein and they break an important weight loss rule. DONT drink your calories. Plus they are nasty and full artificial crap!

I am glad to be done with them, glad my Breakfast and lunch is no longer a nasty, stomach churning, chemical filled crap. I am obviously not a fan Protein Powder or shakes.< /p>

  6. Enjoy your holidays and just make your first appt Jan 2nd....And enjoy the BMI 40! Just kidding... Sort of??

Well I remember getting so frustrated with what seemed to be an unstoppable gain about 2 1/2 years ago. PCOS and hypothyroidism were taking a toll. Tried a dr supervised plan, WW several times and medifast. Each time I lost and re-gained. I

Remember wishing I was heavy enough for lapband (remember the hungry lion Commercials). I wasn't. Fast forward prob another year the local bariatric office had a new dr/nut supervised plan. No surgery and no Phentermine (another failed attempt I didn't want to repeat) and I was pretty sure my insurance would pay. So I go for the introduction and get weighed and the coordinator asked, "so are you interested in surgical or non surgical?" I said non surgical I am not heavy enough for WLS. Oh your a BMI 42 and with bcbs it would be covered. Whoa I did a double take. I was totally disgusted with getting that big and shocked I was even considering it. But I had really tried HARD since I had my son 5 years ago and was just getting bigger. Fast forward I had the sleeve 9 Months ago and I am at my personal goal and a Normal BMI.

My point is you are so close... Just normal progression of weight gain you eventually qualify without doing anything to qualify on purpose. That is just how obesity goes.

  7. I am not saying it is CDiff but it could be and it is worth at least ruling it out. CDiff happens in institutional settings (like hospitals and nursing homes). And after powerful antibiotic use like the ones giving post op. It does cause bowel incontinence. Call your doctor and see what they think. They might want you to take a test for it.

  8. I think it must be harder to have a special pre op diet - and those pesky couple of weeks of liquids after surgery

but let me encourage you that once I was on real foods I can find something appropriate at just about every venue - or sometimes I take a protien bar if I think nothing will appeal to me. You will get your social life back, although it will probably not look exactly like it did before!

    and, it is WORTH IT.

Just to agree and add pre-op is much harder than post op at least for me. After you are feeling better post op .... food will not be that big of a deal. It is worth it and it about getting more out of life not being lonely.

  9. I go out as much as I want. I eat out out at restaurants a couple times a week at least. It's all about choices and what you order. High Protein apps or Entrees. Share something with a friend. Take what you can't eat home. Avoid carbs.... Get the veggie of the day instead of fries, skip the bread. My social life has never been more active and it is wonderful!!!! Driving home from 'socializing' as we speak. Had steamed shrimp appetizer as an entree and some of the hubby's veggies. Lol I will have shrimp omelet for Breakfast from my leftovers tomorrow.

WLS is about living not giving up your social life. You will need time to heal but after 4-6 weeks get back out there and enjoy the new you. Of course follow your surgeon's advice on alcohol consumption.

  10. WLS... Has been epic.... I am free to move, not be in pain, wear shorts and a bathing suit .....not just because I am thinner but because my psoriasis has cleared. That is a big one .... freer from autoimmune disease!! Free from PCOS. I am free from the hungry monster. Free from food controlling my life. Free from being self conscience about being fat. Free from being a wallflower... I could go on and on and there is no way I pick just one!

  11. Don't care. Surgery is going to give me an extra 0-50 years and I sure as hell am not going to waste them staring at the idiot box.

Besides, I'm sure a huge portion of the people here can blame a good part of their weight gain on a sedentary idiot-box-watching lifestyle in the first place.

This is awesome advice.... ! You have made want to cut down on my screen time. But will not give up my Walking Dead!!

  12. It is ok to ask your medical team why the diet is so aggressive? In a nice non conformational way of course. That can't hurt. Don't get me wrong I don't think purees will hurt you. But be honest and tell them it makes you a bit nervous. Just ask why you are not doing Clear Liquids, full liquid, purée, soft foods, progression. They may have a really great answer that makes you feel better. Ask what your go toos are if the purees don't work for you.
