  1. Saramarie, may I inquire if alcohol is approved your doctor or NUT at five days out? If they do you picked the wrong medical team. It is too soon! Most are still on clear or maybe full liquids at that point. Alcohol can cause serious complications like ulcers and leaks. I mean serious possibly life threatening complications. I am not judging you I am honestly concerned for your well being. Your just had 80% of your stomach removed and it is held together by staples. It is a raw, swollen irritated mess that can't even handle basic food. 6 weeks is the earliest Doctor recommendation I have seen on this board. Most are 3, 6, 12 months or even never.

    Bad breath

Yes I did experience that. It could be that your in ketosis from low carbing. Great for weightloss but bad for your breath and sweat too. When you get closer to goal and are getting more healthy carbs it will improve. Small sacrifice for getting healthy and looking great. Until then altoids help.
  3. I am 10 months out, at goal and normal BMI. Peanut butter is MY favorite!!! I started eating peanut butter when I hit goal and haven't lost any weight since. Not an ounce! Stopped eating it for week and lost 2 lbs. in other words do not touch the stuff until your at goal and starting maintenance and then only in moderation. Might as well call it STALL butter!!!!

    The walking dead

That episode was gut wrenching... Which is why I watch walking dead. It impacts me on a primal emotional level in a way no other show ever has. It is pure brilliance... The writing the acting.... Wow!!! If I wanted some feel good fluff I would watch an abc, nbc or cbs comedy. You literally feel your ARE going through he apocalypse on an emotional level. I think WLS at goal... Who is in reasonable shape might have an advantage or least be equal... We are use to surviving on less food.

    Binge eating

Binge eating is an eating disorder and nothing to do with the size of your stomach. You can and probably will do it after VSG if you do not address the eating disorder. I am 10 months out and if wanted to I could binge... Also early on when the stomach is healing binging could cause serious complications. It could even be deadly. Good news is there is effective treatment for this disorder. Many with the disorder are doing quite well with the help of therapy. Your surgeon's office should be able to recommend a therapist that can help. Best of luck to you!
  6. Is it a Buffett or do did you get to pick your meal? I would go with the thought of nibbling on anything your plan approves of. But have a backup plan. Bring a ready to drink shake or something you know will agree with you. As for alcohol my experience is it can hit you much harder. Never ever drink for the first time in public!!!!! Six weeks does seem too early to most WLS patients... But if it fine with your doctor who am I to judge. Just please be careful. Take your docs advice and limit it to 1 and drink very slowly. Remember don't drink for the first time in public!

    Sleep?

How far out are you? Pain meds caused sleeping issues for me early on. This was not new either I had issues with sleeping from pain meds after other surgeries in the past. I also second all the posters that mentioned hormones. My PCP is fine with me taking melatonin. It really helps me. Wishing you many zzzzs!
  8. Some people loose a little and some loose a lot of hair. Some seem to rebound after they are in maintenance and some don't. I am almost 11 months post op and have been in maintenance since July and have seen no improvement yet[emoji26]. I haven't lost hope but it is disappointing. So I focus on the fact my BMI is now normal, I am off a ton of meds and my health issues are resolved. I have the energy that I had when I was a teenager. Remember we are doing this surgery to literally save our lives... So what if we have thin hair?

    What's wrong with me?

Update us when you can. I am glad your getting it checked out!
  10. Have considered Greek Yogurt. It is higher in protein so that makes it a better option. Be careful that it also doesn't have too much added sugar.

    Any Shakeology folks out there?

Syntrax nectar has a great carb to protein ratio, is mix able even with water. I liked fuzzy navel flavor. You can buy sample sizes on Amazon before you invest significant money.

    Endometrial ablation

My highest praises to Nova Sure endometrial ablation!!! I had it 3 years ago and haven't had a cycle since. My WLS surgery last December made no difference! Hope it is the same for you!!!

    What was your "last" meal?

My last meal before the 2 week liver shrinking diet was hot Buffalo wings, fries, and tuna steak. Actually shared with someone else so I didn't eat a large amount of food. So yummy!! Also had an frozen umbrella drink. Now I am at goal I still eat this stuff on rare occasions... But it ends up being one wing, 1 fry and a couple bites of tuna steak. I totally gave up real high calorie alcoholic drinks.
  14. I think we all have.... But no one calls me fat now... Looking hot is such sweet revenge!!!
  15. I will be your friend... But I don't like carp either, don't like eating carp or looking like carp...

    Why all the judgement

Hmm member for seven hours and you chose a name like this? Very very curious..... Like I said before negativity will get you no where with WLS or in life.

    BIGGEST NSV yet!

    You are doing awesome! Congratulations!
  18. @@Babbs and @@Lipstick are at goal and have been maintaining for quite a while. They are veterans that have a lot to offer and so much wisdom. Just open your mind and absorb some of the great stuff on this board. Negatively will not help you with WLS or life in general.
  19. You said it was a Jewish JELLY fish salad. So they ARE Swedish Fish?? They are kind of jelly like. And soft. And you can eat them in sushi. Love this but now am craving Swedish fish!!!! Not good for getting my head in the game pre trick or treat!!!

    Gateway "drug"

Nuts in general are a gateway drug.....but not as bad as peanut butter! Stay safe! Let us know how you are doing on the other side!
  21. And this was the other concern. I certainly believe in making sure there isn't a medical reason why the child is gaining weight, but then after that, leading by example is all you can do. No amount of criticizing, cajoling, begging, or chastising will make someone lose weight. And when people who are obese or have been obese bring up 'concern' for a loved one about their weight, it's really almost hypocritical in my eyes. We know how hard it is, and we also know that we didn't do anything about it until we were darn good and ready to, either. I mean, nothing like making the kids weight this front and center issue to make her feel like she's completely not good enough. A loving talk about your concern and a visit to a doctor is about all you can do other than leading by example and encouraging them to exercise with you and cook them healthy meals. My opinion. And this comes from experience. @Babbs... I agree 100%. I cringe at how my parents dealt with this. I am still damaged! I will not do that to her. I am going to push the pediatrician to do some blood work. I know I want her thyroid checked. She also has a newly diagnosed anxiety disorder and hypothyroidism runs in the family. not sure hormone testing at her age would help. I know looking back I had signs of some PCOS as a teenager but she is only 9. Also this could all be a normal part of puberty. Worrying is just a part of parenting.

    Facial hair *women only

Wish I could give better news. Excess hair is only PCOS symptom that hasn't gone away. I had to get waxed last weekend [emoji35]
  23. I am actually the mother of a pre-teen gaining weight and I am very very concerned. I would never have thought to ask the question here ...but here it is. I am at a loss of what questions to ask her doctor, what tests to requests. Most importantly how do I deal with this issue with her when she is already sensitive and self conscience about her changing body. Dr don't seem to be concerned. I know my own parents intervention at this age was seen by me as criticism and their efforts had the opposite effect. Boy I don't want to do more damage than good. I also don't want her to get to the point of needing WLS. [emoji20]
  24. Following and very curious. I was about to get reduction because of back pain before I decided on WLS. 40/42 DDD before WLS. On a 5'1 frame! Yikes! I was sure insurance would pay. Now I am 34/36 C/D. Skin fills most of my bra[emoji34]. I even wonder if I have enough breast tissue to manage a B if I got a lift. So I know you need to remove so much tissue to get a reduction and have insurance pay. Does skin tissue count? How much tissue to qualify as a reduction and get insurance to pay? There is no way I can afford it without help. But I know it costs about 7000 here out of pocket. So that helps. My boobs give a new meaning to the term deflate gate!

    2 days post op-fever

How high? Your post op instructions should have a note to call your surgeon if it gets higher than a certain point. They would want to know just in case it is a post op infection and not a cold. Keep your fluids up. If it is a cold it has to run its course. Hope you feel better soon.
