    Post-op brain fuzziness

Yes I was very very fuzzy until about 2 1/2 -3 weeks out. It delayed my return to work. I am an application developer so working brain fog is not an option. I am sure immediately after surgery anesthesia and pain meds make you fuzzy but then the change and diet starts to take its toll. I told my doctor at my 2 week appt. They thought I was probably getting low in vitamin b. They cleared me to start taking my vitamins and start adding more protein to my diet and both those things helped. It will get better.! Hang in there!

    Crackers

All programs are different. I am suppose to avoid white flour foods for the rest of my life (saltines are a no no forever). At 7 months post op I could eat them with no issues. My NUT believes white flour carbs are evil and a big component of what causes obesity in the first place. She is probably right on that point. It is mind boggling the variation in programs. However I was allowed some mash potatoes during my puréed stage.... They never made anyone fat... That was sarcasm.

    Question about Fruit

I also agree with @Bufflehead. Pro fruit.... Anti protein bar. Now my Nut allowed reasonable quantities fruit after I was cleared to try "any" food. My personal trick it pair my fruit with protein like cottage cheese , Greek yogurt, cheese or some lunch meat. Berries are a great choice and so is watermelon. Things like pineapple or banana are considered an occasional treat. I also find I can't eat much fruit without a tummy ache so it keeps me in check.

    Post surgery Q - recovery

Yup you are loco! I had 2 c-sections and found them to be more painful than VSG. Big difference with this surgery is the liquid diet. You might have less pain but the change in diet can leave you tired and moody for awhile. I was worse at 2 weeks than I was at 1 week. I kept feeling bad until I started soft foods and vitamins. After that I bounced back quickly and felt great. Remember your fluids and protein are your priority. Good luck!!!

    Soft foods question?!

I had to wait to be cleared for 'all' foods until I could try protein bars. But I understand your anti protein shake thing. They all made me sick to the stomach.... Even Isopure (it made me sick the least). I added unflavored protein powder like unjury to my Greek yogurt. It helped get my protein in without drinking so many shakes. Good luck to you. You will be past this stage before you know it!
  10. @@Valentina who is your insurance with. My BCBSIL was great for WLS but doesn't cover any plastics after WLS. But I get to choose my plan every year and there are about four providers. I am hoping there is one that is more likely to cover.

    132 pounds lost! W/picture

    Congratulations
  13. I wanted my husband to care for the kids so I got a ride to the hospital from a friend so he could get them on the bus. He came later but I didn't need him there. Actually would have preferred to be alone. He never helped care for me when I got home. I did everything for myself. This was by choice again I wanted him to concentrate on the kids which was a huge responsibility I didn't have to worry about! Now ideally we all need support but you would do better alone than with someone who adds stress to your life. Maybe just get rides from him because many hospitals won't discharge without a ride. That way you let him "help" you without actually spending much time with him.

    When did you.....?

OR. I had to slide myself on the table.
  15. I was on it for PCOS and Acne. My surgeon wanted me of it before surgery because it could dehydrate me. I didn't need it for blood pressure. I never had to go back on it. I now have low blood pressure and the WLS seems to help more than that medication ever did. I don't miss the dry mouth or headaches it caused.

    Nail polish/Acrylic nails

I was in the same boat.... And asked the surgery coordinator. She let me keep the pedicure but the nails were not negotiable. I only had polish so if wasn't a huge deal. She told me the nail beds are a indicator of oxygen levels. They really should give this info a month or so in advance!
  17. Condolences on the loss of your father. So so sorry!!

What’s Your Take on Summer Fruit?

At 7 months out fruit is on the menu. I love all the same ones I used too just smaller quantities. Cherries, grapes, nectarines, strawberries, watermelon. Pineapple and bananas are less frequent. I usually eat them with protein.

    When to tell Boss?

My STD plan was similar there was a waiting period before it kicked in. I could use sick time, vacation time or personal time during that week. I suppose unpaid time could be an option for employees with no PTO. STD supplements your income. Family and Medical leave Act protects your job. It is very important you get both if you work for an employer covered by FMLA. Most employers are covered unless they are very very small. FMLA gives you the right to take medical leave for yourself or to care for a family member. You can take 3 months of unpaid medical leave in a calendar year (your employer can define the calendar year but most use a rolling calendar year). but employers can ask you to use accrued PTO first before unpaid leave kicks in. Now FMLA will protect your job if you have post op complications or God forbid you or a close family member had an unforeseen medical incident like cancer or a car accident in addition to your WLS. STD and FLMA can be used concurrently. Now when you come back they have to give a job with same pay and work conditions. Usually HR will have some paperwork your doctor will need to fill out to determine it is a real medical leave. But there few reasons they would ever deny particularly with surgery.

    Incidental discovery

My pcp told me that the iron in multi vitamins can cause constipation. Check your label for iron. Obviously that is an important nutrient but it might be the culprit.

    Any Pagans around here?

I am not a pagan but I am fascinated by all things Druid from a historical and anthropological perspective. I did use to work with a Wiccan...is that similar?

    Who to tell

Please don't misunderstand -- no criticism here at all. But how in the world did you manage not to tell your husband about your WLS? Did he even know you'd been in hospital? Inquiring minds want to know. I didn't tell him about my initial consultation. Mine was a 7 month process... So I told him about 3 months before. As soon I was sure I wanted the WLS I told him. I was very matter of fact and said here is what I am doing and he was surprisingly supportive. That shocked me because he is usually very un easy with change. I guess he wanted the old me back as much as I did! Whether It is a few close friends or everyone you know.... Support is so important.
  24. I was sleeved 12/14/15 and I am 2 lbs from being a normal BMI and 7 lbs from my personal goal. I feel great, my constant body aches are a thing of the past except for my knees. The weight is off so I don't expect any more improvement from weight loss alone. I have seen my pcp and had X-rays and there is arthritis even though I am only 43. Waking irritates the situation so I am not walking as much as I should. I also don't take ibuprofen anymore, that probably helped pre op. I am so scared to push myself they click on stairs and grind. So here are my questions. Did physical therapy help any of you. What kind of exercises did you do? Did a brace help and did you use a specific brand? Has anyone conquered this and go on to be a really active? What activities do you do?

    Who to tell

Lol didn't tell my husband for 3 months until I was 100% sure I wanted to do it! There is no rush considering how long the pre op period is. But I think we all need a support system. Whether it is 4 people like me or or you tell everyone you are going to need support.
