Post op regrets topics - not popular

I believe all opinions are welcome here and people considering surgery should be informed about possible complications. People researching WLS should also be informed that not everyone adjusts well to post bariatric life, and yes some regret it. Thank you for your post. I am truly sorry you are going through this. You may never stop regretting it but I hope find a new normal that you can live with. I don't think anyone should have to live with fecal incontenance. I am in the USA and my bariatric team would have been all over this. Being a small rural hospital... I would been referred to Johns Hopkins or another world class top hospital after a short time. I guess what I am asking is whether You have faith in your medical team? Have you consulted with another bariatric team or gastroenterologist. It is hard to heal and create a new normal when you as sick as you are. I hope your health improves soon so can make the best of this regretful situation.
  2. Side effect of post op antibiotics maybe. The only thing that helps me is diflucan and many doctors will prescribe over the phone... Especially if they recently prescribed you antibiotics. First try your surgeon, then your gyno, then your pcp. Remember probiotics and yogurt.

    Complication or coincidence?

The yellow BM does seem like a bug... But how scary this so soon after surgery. You did the right thing working with surgeon. Hope you feel better soon!!!
  4. I agree with Ann 100%. I started at a BMI of 42...low end of what insurance will approve. BMI of 37 the day I got my sleeve. At 43 yo yo dieting was taking a toll and health issues were getting more serious. I needed a permanent solution. I think balloon is similar to the band..... Great on paper but doctors are not getting the results and happy patients so it is loosing its popularity quickly. My doc will no longer do bands and never started doing balloons at all.

    Extreme Fatigue

Any suggestions on the sugar free sports drink. Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App I like Powerade zero. It got me through a recent stomach bug. Very mild taste.

    Flat Diet Coke

I don't see why it would hurt but flat soda doesn't sound very a appealing to me. Many have mentioned flat soda doesn't cause them issues.

I may have found the lid to my pot

Sending positive energy your way!! This is so exciting!!!
  8. 7 months out but I WAS NOT told. I remembered how brutal IV weight gain was from my C-sections. You should lose about 10 lbs or more of baby and amniotic fluid but you gain 15 (25 net from IV fluids). Prior experience was my only clue....and I wasn't told before my csections either!
  9. So sorry you had to go through this. Thank you for being brave Enough to share your story! I am not that brave yet but this means a lot!!
  10. Ok I have a stomach bug...7months post op. TMI...Diarrhea since last Saturday. I am staying hydrated so that's good. Mild fever at the beginning. My former go to foods are not ideal anymore. BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apples and toast... Actually allergic to apples ) would make me feel worse I am sure. What soothes your stomach? Any OTC medicines you recommend? At this point there is nothing my surgeon told me to avoid except NSAIDS.

Which Food Did (Or Will) You Miss the Most?

I miss things like waffles/pancakes with full sugar maple syrup, pizza and Mac 'n' Cheese, cheese steak subs and Reese cups. With the sleeve I can eat these 7 months post op but I know they are my triggers so it is best to leave alone if I want long term success.

How to Make the Most Out of Buffets

I really can relate .... I am invited to an all you can eat crab house tonight. $40 a plate. I accepted that will never get my money's worth at a buffet ever again. It's the price I pay to be included with my friends and maintain my social relationships. Thankfully buffets are not their normal choice.

  19. I would like to see that research about the brain cells...someone please provide a link. BTY weed is not my thing and I am not advocating for anybody to use it but have never heard that research. I also have BCBS and neither they nor my surgeon required testing for that.

    Buddy in Salisbury MD?

Please pm me anytime I don't live in Salisbury but I am very familiar with the region. I had VSG but after the initial surgery the eating programs for both surgeries seem very similar. I would be glad to help anyway I can. I have hit a plateau myself and have 8 lbs to my personal goal. These 8 lbs will take longer than the first 70! I too need a sounding board as well. How far out from surgery are you?

Very low carb diet can cause ketosis? WebMD

Let's read the source webmd. http://www.m.webmd.com/diabetes/type-1-diabetes-guide/what-is-ketosis I am not disagreeing that for some ketosis might not be appropriate. If you are otherwise healthy low carb diet will not cause ketoacidosis. It can actually be very healthy for many conditions. It cured my PCOS. Also I got into ketosis by following my pre and post op diets given by my surgical team to the letter. 90% of post op Bariatric diets cause ketosis and that is by design. I assume a patient at risk ketoacidosis would be given a safe alternative. So everyone should follow their plan given by their doctor.

Very low carb diet can cause ketosis? WebMD

Ketosis is a safe method of weightloss that I personally have been very successful at. I think you are confusing ketosis with ketoacidosis- this happens to diabetics and is dangerous. Ketosis is approved by my surgeon, NUT and PCP.
