Welcome Mike. Best of luck on your WLS.

Call your surgeon or PCP.... they will want/need to know. I have had dizziness off and on since surgery (4 mos out). The suspect low blood pressure and mild dehydration. However if it persist they want me to visit my PCP to rule out other issues. But I notice it doesn't happen when I am drinking the recommended amount and get a little salt in my diet. When you cut processed food you get much less sodium as you might have pre-surgery.

Help! I have fallen off my plan and ...
ocgirl15 replied to cherri2082's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can you give more detail. How far out are you? What happens physically when you over eat. Are there trigger foods you need to avoid. I know that is the case for me..... So I have to avoid them 100%... I can't have those foods in moderation. -
Most surgeons have an "on call" number for after business hours.... did you check if yours does?

Call your doctor ASAP! We all know your not suppose to get pregnant this soon after surgery but only your doctor will know the day after pill is a safe option.

How long was your hospital stay?
ocgirl15 replied to Andrea Guadiana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 12/14/16 and stayed 1 night in the hospital. Many of my support group members stayed longer. They did tend to be older, higher BMI and more health issues than me. But one young girl in her twenties had issues with anesthesia, your stay could be more one day. This surgery is not the same as typical outpatient surgery. You will most likely be on a clear liquid diet by Thursday, in other words you will not be consuming enough calories to do physically or mentally demanding job. I was still on narcotics for pain by that time which means I could not drive. You need to plan at least one week. You will also have lifting restrictions for About 4 to 6 weeks. My doctor recommended 2 weeks minimum and I work from home. -
Can you count the water in the protein shakes towards the water goal?
ocgirl15 replied to bigmamaAfrica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could count shakes, Popsicles, tea and sugar free jello toward my water goal. -

Alcohol and drugs after surgery
ocgirl15 replied to jmc534's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just my opinion and assumption. There a reason you can't find any info on cocaine use after WLS.... Because it has never been studied and nobody can give you a clear answer if it is or is not safe. Also most WLS don't do it after surgery. Probably even your doctors can only give a best guess which is not to do it just in case. It is an unknown. Of the drugs out there it isn't known for a great safety record and purity and "real content" will always be unknown. You might find a few WLS patients say I did it and I am still alive but that does not prove you will be ok. Not judging just trying to give food for thought. -
I am a sleever that drinks. I was allowed at 3 months and I am four months out now. I don't have the same interest in drinking I use to. I used to drink every Friday and Saturday. 2-3 drinks a night. I think meet the definition of social drinker for a women. But that has really changed for a number of reasons. 1.) You really should avoid any carbonation. I took a sip of beer and it didn't feel good. I am not a big beer drinker so no big loss. But did use to like rum and Diet Coke.... That is out too. At bars I have tried skinny margaritas and did fine. You probably need to be willing to try new things to find something low cal and no carbonation. 2). You can't eat and drink so when your out there is a window when you can't drink alcohol. That lowers your overall consumption.... Which is good we are trying to loose weight right? 3.). Because I am focus on weight loss I limit for that reason as well. 4). It goes to your head faster so I limit for that reason too. With that said I DO enjoy an occasional cocktail. Now the disclaimer.... Follow your doctors orders and plan. Alcohol consumption is empty calories and hinders weightloss Third. There is a correlation between WLS and developing new addictions to things like alcohol. Be careful. But I am sure you already knew that.[emoji57]

I love my friends and family and most are normal weight. "Normal weight" people DO over indulge in food and alcohol during social situations. At this point the sleeve is doing it job and I find the whole display kind of gross. But the company is outstanding. I don't want to left out so I just watch their gluttony.... And kind of feel sorry for them. Food addiction is very different than drug or alcohol addiction. Alcoholics and addicts CAN avoid their trigger substances. Ban alcohol from their homes and avoid bars and social situations with alcohol. We cannot do that with food. You have seen dry weddings but have you ever been to a wedding without food and a big cake? Or a Birthday party, Christmas or any other social situation. Unhealthy food is everywhere. As food addicts we are tormented because we MUST consume our trigger everyday to live. Smokers, addicts and alcoholics it is the opposite.... Not quite fair. We can't expect friends and family to stop living and enjoying social occasions because we can't indulge to the same extent. We need to learn to cope with our inner food demons. I think I am doing that and to lesser extent I can indulge. I do have small quantities if restaurant food especially if they are protein. I had a couple wings and cocktail later in the evening last night. I had a great time with my friends and was satisfied. (FYI I am approved for moderate alcohol consumption).

What was your "Yep. I'm getting WLS." moment?
ocgirl15 replied to GranadoM74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My story is a bit different..... I accidentally fell into a the "offer of WLS". I was a normal weight child and young adult. Not skinny but within a normal BMI range. My first official diet was the summer after my freshman year. I gained a bit more than the freshman 15 and my mother wasn't having it. From that moment on maintaining normal weight was a struggle and I was dieting constantly and at the gym. If I wasn't at the gym 5 days a week and dieting I was overweight. After I got married I was overweight, after my first child I lingered in the obese ranged. But after my second child I was diagnosed PCOS and hypothyroidism. Never lost any of the baby weight and kept gaining and the diets that worked before.... None of them worked and I did try. Six years of constant dieting. None worked but I was willing to try the latest one. It was at a Bariatric Center that also had a non-surgical weightloss option. Doctor supervised and NUTs, access to the lasted and greatest WL drugs. At my first consultation my coordinator took my height and weight and said "please remind me are you here for the weightloss program or WLS?" My reply oh I wouldn't qualify for WLS I don't have co-morbidities. Well at BMI of 42 you would qualify with your insurance. We can do either. I couldn't believe it.... I was morbidly obese. And I also was being offered a real solution. I always saw WLS as a life saving miracle so I never thought as an easy way out. But I did see as a last resort. So the soul searching and research began. I made the choice, told my husband and began my journey. Best decision of my life. -
I think my c-sections were worse. But the surgeries are very different. VSG the pain is up high so I thought getting in and out of bed and walking was easier. No middle of the night feedings during recovery was also a plus.

Heartburn PPI drugs linked to dementia?
ocgirl15 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was wondering if any of you have seen this health news about Prevacid, Nexium, Prilosec being linked to dementia. Link to one news story below but if you goggle if you will get tons of hits from reputable news outlets. So many of us take them long term. I know several people with dementia and don't want to increase my chances of getting it. However I have taken Prevacid for at least 15-20 years already. Have any of you had conversations with for PCPs or surgeons? Anybody stopping PPIs altogether? Maybe going back to the old school of Tagamet, Zantac or Pepcid? Just want to hear others thoughts on the subject. http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/well/2016/02/17/heartburn-drugs-tied-to-dementia-risk/?referer= -

Food related regrets...
ocgirl15 replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My NP told me to just eat the toppings. Chopped carrots, cukes, onions, bacon, cheese, tomato, seeds, etc. Add a little dressing and skip the filler leafy crap. Yum. LOL I do that.... You realize the leafy greens were not as important as you thought! -

Food related regrets...
ocgirl15 replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Any.... Green leafy vegetables ( even though I love them). I got intestinal distressed before surgery but ate it anyway.... I really loved salads. Now I understand we have to part ways. I really miss salad but cannot risk it [emoji26] -
Not telling people about your surgery is a "half truth" or a "lie" steams me like a pile of fresh cow dung...
ocgirl15 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
I agree with OP 100%!!!!!! I am tired of people judging people who choose not to tell, inferring we are ashamed, or implying we are dishonest. I have only chosen to tell a few select people that I consider my support system. My husband and my 3 closest girlfriends. My nearest relative is 8 hours away, I work virtually so I didn't have to deal with co-workers. Honestly they have no idea I was obese to begin with. My boss is very professional and never asked what surgery was for. HR approved the leave.... That all she needed to know. Everyone else is just acquaintances..... I don't think they need to know. I also haven't told my "acquaintances" about other numerous surgeries, or that I odds with my father in law, how much money I make, when argue with my husband, or my kids are getting on my nerves or many other private things. Guess what .....they don't want me to waste their time with that crap. If I was ashamed I wouldn't have told my BFFs.... They are the only people in the world whose opinions matter to me!! As for helping other obese... If you are obese and a good friend and ask I would tell them the surgery details. -
Do you need someone to take care of you after WLS?
ocgirl15 replied to nikki78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was fine. I was in the hospital 1st day, came home the second, alone one the 3rd day. I was able to get the kids off the bus. 4th day got them ready for school and off the bus : ). I took care of myself 100%. Husband took care of the kids. That was all I needed just time to be able to focus on myself. -
FMLA or Short Term Disability
ocgirl15 replied to Ignatius's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used both really. STD covered a portion of my pay but ran in parallel with FMLA. FMLA protects your job but offers no compensation per say. I have a use it or loose policy with PTO and a December surgery so I only had a few days of PTO left by then. STD was a godsend. -
Oprah ate my inner skinny person.
ocgirl15 replied to katieroybal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One thing Oprah has not tried is WLS. You will be healthy when she regains this current loss..... And she will regain just like she always does... Just like we all have on WW. Let her eat her bread.... -
That is an awesome way to start your journey! Good luck to you both!

I have a sleeve and mild reflux prior to surgery. I love my sleeve but understand it is not for everyone. Banders have many complications (just read the posts on the topic) including reflux. If he won't do sleeve for valid medical reasons I would ask about RNY. I would never ever get the band with the statistics available today. I would have certainly considered. RNY.
