    October List of Surgery's

@@irishaggie I think you are doing fine. I've lost 100 lbs since pre surgery, but I have 45 yet to go to hit my goal. I work out every day between 1 to 3 hours and yet you are not that far behind me. If you could work some in it might jump start your losses again. I just came off a month long stall. I lost 5 pounds last week all of a sudden. It seems to have stopped now unfortunately. I have a feeling this is going to be how it goes for most of the weight loss. Stall, loss, longer stall, loss, etc. hang in there. We will get there and hopefully by the time we are a year out we will be trying to figure out how to stop the losses.

    October List of Surgery's

Hi @@anewme2015 I had my surgery on Oct 13, and am not doing too bad. I've been on a mission to add protein to my favorite foods and get rid of some of the carbs. Mostly I end up with frozen Yougert and ice cream which are mostly a form of frozen protein drinks. I also discovered syntrax nectar protein drinks which have zero carbs. What type of foods are you struggling with? I think I have downloaded every chicken recipe from Pinterest and am getting kind of sick of chicken. I usually then switch over to frittatas. I'm sure you can get back on track. I've learned it is just like exercise and you have to find what you like if you are going to stick with it.
  3. Great job! I'm sure that last 6 pounds will come off soon enough. IMho the closer you are to a goal, the slower your metabolism works. At least it always seems that way in my experience.
  4. Great job! My size 14's are starting to get a little loose so I need to go try some 12's. I haven't worn a 12 in at least 25 years.

    Newbie

I don't really miss eating, but I still have cravings. Of course they are always for sugar so I know it is just in my head. I'm guessing they will never go away, but I'm much better at ignoring them now than I was before.

    Lost 100 pounds!

Congratulations! I hit this goal today too. I was on a stall, but it broke last week. Hopefully the next stall is a ways away for both of us.
  7. Congratulations! You have done a great job!
  8. Any idea of how much it costs to get your metabolism measured? I would love to do this, but never realized it was available. Given the study results (even though it is such a small sample), I hope they will at least put more money towards this research.

    Sugar free ice cream?

I have a cuisinart ice cream maker, but you can find others on Amazon pretty cheap. For chocolate mint you could just use the cocoa and some mint extract. You could also throw in a handful of dark chocolate chips and skip the cocoa. Because I don't use cream it gets kind of hard so I put it in single serving containers with lids. This way I can nuke it for 20 seconds to soften it up a bit. I use 1 c half and half, 2 c unsweetened almond milk, 2 eggs, and two packages of the Yougert. I love it and eat one almost every day. Way better than a protein bar.

    Sugar free ice cream?

I have a sleeve so this might be different, but I make sugar free ice cream all the time. I use half and half, almond milk, oikos triple zero Greek Yougert, and eggs for the base. Then I use stevia and a variety of flavorings. I add 3 scoops of unflavored Protein powder. It has 22 grams of protein per serving. My favorites are Peanut Butter where I add PB2 powder, and chocolate almond using crushed almonds and coco powder. This way I get ice cream and meet my protein goals.

    Failure [emoji22]

I find you can add unflavored protein powder to just about anything. My favorite right now is peanut butter ice cream with pb2 powder and frozen fruit yogurts. Both have 22 grams of protein per serving. The ice cream has more fat and less carbs. I even made some home made dog treats the other day and found myself adding protein powder to those.

    Support group

My support group can be very interesting at times and other times not so much. I never went before surgery, but many people come to our group before their surgery. It is a great place to ask questions. The Bariatric coordinator from the hospital runs it.
  13. How do you turn off a thread if you no longer want to be part of that discussion?

    Thanks Everyone.

    Turning off a thread

I'm on an iPad. There is a button that says unsubscribe would that be the same thing?
  16. A lot depends on how much you exercise and at what levels. I do high intensity cardio for 2 hours a day, and add a weight class 3 days a week. My average calorie burn is about 1200-1500 calories from working out. My Dr told me to increase my calories to at least 1200 so that I would stay out of the starvation mode. With that increase I still had to keep my protein at 50%, but he wanted me to add more veggies and nuts to make up the difference. It doesn't take too many nuts to increase your calorie intake pretty quickly so you have to measure and be careful.

    My one year Surgiversary Pics!

Congratulations! We started out about the same. I'm 5'4" and started at 286. I'm down 99 pounds in 6 1/2 mos. I hope I can get in the 140's by my 1 yr anniversary.

    Failure [emoji22]

Are you working out? Cardio and strength building exercises may help get you started again. Also how is your protein intake? Do you get around 100 grams per day or at least 50% of your calories coming from protein.
  19. I used to have overactive bladder and took some very expensive prescriptions to manage it. About 3 mos out I no longer needed the meds! It saves me about $3k per year.
  20. I will have to look for those. I have the opposite problem with the straps. All the shirts today seemed to be designed for racer back bras. Fashion verses practicality will always be a problem I guess no matter what size you are.
  21. I finally decided I had to replace my bras when the girls continually kept slipping out the bottom. I was down 7 sizes so I guess that makes sense. Having terrible time trying to find sports bras. I'm a full D cup and XL bras are not designed for that cup size. Larger ones are too loose around the chest and the girls keep slipping out. I'm sure I give people at the gym something to talk about.
  22. I think you need to bring everything with you next week. Especially if you have any sensitivity to spicy food. Once you are a little further out this will get a lot easier. I got sick once at a Chinese restaurant early on. Be careful of rice, I think it is a trigger food and not good for you anyway. Just hang in there, it will get better. Once you can eat all foods you learn to just eat smaller amounts and you can tell easier when you have had enough. Good Luck. Travel is the hardest.

    Dry skin?

I think this is pretty common. I'm 6 mos out and I think it is worse now than closer to my surgery. I get in plenty of liquids and always take my vitamins. Just stock up on lots of lotion. I really notice it on my face now.

    BCBSTX

I have BCBS TX and it took them 21 days to give me approval. My BMI was 49 however so it was pretty black and white. I don't think they will count the thyroid as a comorbidity because the surgery won't effect that. The diabetes and the sleep apnea should get you through. They require a BMI of 35 with 2 cormorbidities, or a BMI of 40. I'm from Houston.

What do you take? Soreness without Advil

I have sleeve and my Doc forbids NSAIDs for life still. It is a problem for me because tylonol does absolutely nothing for me. I just try to stretch as much as possible after working out and I get regular massages to try and keep my muscles from getting so tight.
