CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
Hi @@KristenLe - you brought up this great point in a previous post of mine. I did tell the nurse at my preoperative testing and she said it would be fine but recommended I double check with my surgeon. I'll ask him about it when I see him Wednesday. Appreciate the reminders! And boy I hope my flight is on time too.

CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
My date is July 7 but I'm out of town July 2-6, flying back the night before surgery so I'm working on this list. Have to have everything ready for the hospital and immediately postop before I leave on the 2nd. Here's what I have so far: - make sure I have at least one of all of the allowed post op liquid options stocked and reachable (broth, tea, protein powder all come down from the high shelves. Popsicles in the freezer and ready made drinks in the fridge) -fill my prescriptions before I leave town - clean bed sheets to come home to (always the last thing I do before traveling anyway) - place heating pad by the bed in case I need it - braid my clean hair the night before surgery (so I don't have to worry about it!) - make sure I have antibacterial soap on hand (hibiclens) - fill all the ice cube trays - clear my schedule for the days immediately following surgery - stock up on some library books and fresh reads for when I'm around the house (looking forward to this!) - set out some comfy, easy to wear breezy clothes for around the house - clean the house (in case I'm too tired after) - pack for the hospital (phone charger, gas x strips, eyeglass case, face cream, headphones) That's all I have so far. I'm recovering alone so this list may look strange to anyone who has help! Should you have Liquid Tylenol on hand maybe- so you don't have to go out and get any? (Because I am hoping you won't need the heavy-duty prescription drugs for post-op pain!) Great idea. I'll add to my list. Thank you! I'm thinking some kind of gentle laxative as well. Based on reading the forums!

Airport security issues ?
Fascinating thread. I too am frequent traveler with TSA pre check and global entry. My abdominal area has been patted down enough times to make me think it has to do with how my fat hangs (I'm still pre-op)

Checking in alone?
I had the same experience with my endoscopy. Not sure if it is NY state law or just that clinic's rules. They offered a service where I paid $75 for an escort to accompany me home. I thought i could just ditch her at the curb, but she said the rule was she had to take me to to my door. So we rode the subway home together. It was weird! I'm not having family or friends at my surgery either. Was planning on taking a taxi home (it's just 10 minutes away) if they allow it.

CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
There is such a wide range of pre-op diets. Mine is 5 days of full liquids only.

Eating a lot of broth
Honestly I find the premier protein fandom kind of offputting. I'm convinced they are paying people to post about it on here!

Any Nausea Remedies?
I'm prone to nausea and have great success treating it with ginger products as others mentioned here- tea, ginger ale, ginger candies, raw ginger etc. The best cure I've found though, if you live in a state with legal retail, is the marijuana ginger tincture in the medicinal section of the store.

Bone broth
Does anyone have a good recipe link to share? I tried the Pacific food brand chicken w Ginger and Vegetable flavors and they were nice and satisfying and certainly convenient but I think there must be a healthier homemade recipe I can try out there. Plus I love simmering Soup on the stove I am traveling up to the day before surgery and this is one of the few homemade things I can have ready in the freezer for post-op.

Best Tasting Protein Shake
Of the varieties I've tasted so far I liked the Orgain creamy chocolate fudge shake the best.

A drink
Oh, she does lots of the classics. She goes way back to "Me, Myself, and I" and even goes back to Destiny's Child material a bit. You will not be disappointed. But you should try more to get into Lemonade! It will grow on you and she does some of the best songs from that album (even I don't like the country song though.) The visuals are crazy....never seen a concert like it.

I got sleeved yesterday: here's the blow by blow

I got sleeved yesterday: here's the blow by blow
Thanks for posting this! I had never read one of these breakdowns before so i really appreciate it. I wanted to have my surgery at NYU with Dr. Ren-Fielding but my insurance (UHC Choice Plus) required I do it at one of their Centers of Excellence. Did she perform your surgery?

Our Metabolism
Thank you for the link and your response! I am quite possibly misinterpreting, but higher weight = faster metabolism?

Our Metabolism
Hi everyone. I know we've all heard the expressions "slow metabolism" "fast metabolism" "speed up your metabolism" etc but frankly, I don't really have a good understanding of what any of that means and I would really like to know. I understand that the metabolic process is the conversion of food into energy but past that...confused. I've been reading this board for some time now and there is such a wealth of knowledge on here. You guys are so smart! So school me about the metabolism please: -how do you know if it is slow or fast? -does WLS change your metabolism? -are we born with slow or fast (or regular) metabolism or do they change as we age, gain and lose weight, exercise, etc? -does our metabolism just affect the food we eat? Or can we also metabolize drugs or Water slowly or quickly? Signed, science stupid

Insomnia pre op
I took a benadryl shortly after posting this and ended up sleeping through my alarm :-/

I saw the Formation tour 2 weeks ago and it was amazing. You are in for a treat! And some serious fitness inspiration as her choreography and body are mind blowingly strong.

Insomnia pre op
Bump for preop insomnia. Maybe it's because I'm so used to going to bed on a very full stomach...or after a nightcap! Anyone else suffer? I've always been a bad sleeper. I'm Trying to work on my sleep hygiene and build better bedtime habits. Which should probably not include posting from my phone when I can't fall asleep. Oops.

Does anyone have to pay a large copay and deductible
My out of pocket maximum is $2000.

Having Doubts
The fact that you already lost 50 lbs eating the way you will after surgery makes me think that you will have enormous success with surgery and for life. Wow. Well done! They say those who lose weight preop do the best at keeping the weight off.

Marijuana and Life after Bariatric Surgery
Not necessarily...some strains do induce hunger as was mentioned upthread. Marijuana is used medically to increase appetite in patients suffering from anorexia or patients who have lost their appetite due to medication or other treatments. If you live in a state that has legalized medical or retail marijuana you should be able to discuss the different strains and side effects with a cannabis professional.

Documenting your progress
I plan to keep using MFP to track my food, weight, and measurements.
