Guidance
This was a wonderfully insightful post and one I'll try to remember after my surgery.

Did you tell people you were considering weight loss surgery?
I still haven't told anyone I'm considering it. Will probably tell my mother and siblings once I'm closer to surgery date. Except of course- you guys !

Got my date 8/3
I'm on vacation 2 weeks after the sleeve (and the days leading up to the sleeve) and I'm optimistic we will be fine! Im with ya.

Does anyone's goal weight still leave them "overweight" or "obese"?
I would need to weigh 127 and under to get out of the 'overweight' BMI and into 'normal' range. Such is the life of a shortie. But I just want to be healthy and get my energy back. I weighed 127 briefly in college after some extreme dieting followed by a week long bout of the flu!

10 months and 20 days ... GOAL !

July sleevers
My surgery date is July 7th and my pre-op diet starts July 2nd. That said, I'm going to work hard to eat a high protein low carb diet up until then anyway. I'll actually be on vacation July 2-6th which will be....different! But I'm looking forward to sipping my liquids by the pool!

To the pasta lover who is afraid to have surgery
I love the idea of being satisfied with one slice of pizza. It seems so...reasonable!

NESTING PRE SURGERY
A couple months ago I went through allllll the clothes I had sized up and out of over the years. Donated a ton, but ended up optimistically setting aside about 3 bags full of favorites that I hope to fit into on my way back down after surgery!

Vacation 2 months after sleeve
I'll be traveling 2 and a half weeks after my surgery for a total of 10 days. I will be on purees and moving towards soft foods on week 3. It's not ideal but I really don't have a choice.

June - July sleevers?
My surgeon offered me July 7th as a date today. I have to confirm that with his assistant when she's back in the office on Tuesday. I still need to do some bloodwork and the echocardiogram and get insurance approval. It's a good date for me so I hope it works out.

Laser hair removal - OUCH!
I've done two sessions for my lower legs and forearms so far and it is going great. They use a GentleMax laser that shoots a cool gel after each laser zap so you barely feel the laser. After the first session I barely had any regrowth on my legs! Yay to never shaving again. It's quite costly though, so I can only do legs and forearms this year. Next year I'll do upper legs, underarms, bikini, etc.

Last appointment Wednesday!

Interesting thread, thanks for posting.

Young Sleevers
I'm 31 but chiming in to say that several of the doctors I've met throughout the process have praised me for getting this done "at a young age" so good on all of you for taking this on in your 20s! I feel great regret about spending my 20s as an obese woman...missed out on a lot.

Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?
I'm done with all my pre-reqs but don't have a surgery date yet and I haven't told a soul. Just you guys on here. I still haven't decided if I am going to tell my mother and siblings. In an older thread on the same topic a poster gave me this advice: "Wait until you have a surgery date and are on the pre-surgery diet before you decide whether or not to tell anyone." So that's my plan for now. I will say I am leaning towards flat out lying too!

EXERCISE CHALLENGE ROUND 2!
Were we supposed to check in this Monday and I missed it? I met my goal, just barely! And weighed in at 211.

Salmon Recipes Please!

To tell or not to tell? WLS
Following this thread closely because I'm still in the pre-op approval period and haven't told anyone yet (except you guys!) with 3 months to go. I WANT to tell my family because I want their support and I want to be honest with them, but there are a host of things I have to deal with by telling them. I guess that's called growing up. Someone here mentioned talking about this with their therapist- that's what I plan to do.

Welcome to Sci-Fi Theater!
You're talking about the placebo effect. It's well documented when it comes to pills and other treatments but in the USA they've never done studies with sham surgeries. They have in some European countries - exactly the way you described it.

Do you use tools like My Fitness Pal, Fitbit, etc?
I'm using MFP now. I used it a few years ago religiously and lost 30 lbs and once I committed to changing my lifestyle again I picked it back up. I had some iTunes gift cards so just sprang for the premium version. I find it very helpful for food and nutrient tracking!

New to the forum and some questions!
Honestly yes! I haven't even shared my intention to have surgery with anyone in my life yet so it's been this secret well of optimism inside I go to when times are tough or stressful lately. I love reading your posts btw. Thank you for all the positivity! Happiest of New Years.

New to the forum and some questions!
How's your journey, llsp? It's really just starting, I'm not even sure I feel like I'm on a journey yet. I will tell you though for the first time in a long time I am really optimistic about the future and looking forward to something. It sounds so weird to be 'excited' for surgery but I read so many uplifting posts here with different peoples successes and I'm excited for all of us! I had my third of 6 monthly check-ins in December so I am getting closer. I actually gained weight from my first weigh-in to my second so my goal right now is to work to shave off those 6 lbs for my next visit.

Salmon Recipes Please!
I love wrapping salmon fillet up in parchment paper or banana leaf if I can find it and baking it at 400 for 12-15 minutes depending on thickness. My favorite way to do it is place ginger, lime, and keffir leaves in the parchment with the salmon and it absorbs the flavor during cooking. Or sometimes I just do lemon. You can put anything in the parchment paper- veggies will steam right along with the fish inside the pouch.
