I think you will most definitely lose weight after surgery if you follow your doc/Nuts plan. I was never insulin dependent so I can't really make any recommendations, but there really isn't any reason you shouldn't lose weight. I have an auto immune thyroid disorder which I take medication for and I am losing.
Great job getting your A1C down!

Depends on the work environment. Some work environments want to know about you, it contributes to workplace culture.
Some people consider it a private thing.. if so, power to them. But I tell pretty much anyone who shows interest. Why? Not that is or isn't their business, but because there needn't be any stigma attached to it. They know by the end of a discussion on it that it's a smart choice, and not a single person has questioned it yet, and I've probably talked to hundreds of people about this.
Every single time I've discussed this people are in absolute awe in how much I've learned, and how much improvement I've made. Not that I feel a whole lot better, given I had got myself in the situation I was in to begin with by being a dumbass. Nonetheless, the long term goal is to remove the stigma of WLS, which doesn't happen if we keep it secret. It also helps keep everyone honest.. if coworkers know you've had the surgery and don't want to eat crap, they might do the diligence of not inviting you to a bar or whatever, or if you have lunch with people you might avoid a situation where you can't order anything and you're left watching others eat -- the latter of which happened every time at an old video game job where people loved eating at Asian restaurants, and I hate Asian food. How it keeps you honest is it prevents you from eating crap, a coworker would know what your diet is, and might give you crap for it. I've had a couple people change their diet without even bugging them to change because they've seen my improvements. My wife has changed her diet as well.
I find that people who like to be reclusive and secretive don't help their situation that much. It doesn't mean go telling every person you see, but you can tell right away in a short convo if they have interest in the topic. Nowadays workplace culture is vastly more important than it used to be. Utilizing it in a constructive way can help keep you on the right track.. being secretive is another way of allowing yourself to slip without checks.

I'm going to be honest with you.
You are super morbidly obese. Your chances of losing weight and keeping it off 5 years is less than 5%. When someone gets super morbidly obese (my start BMI was 60/61), it is basically impossible to lose weight. It is not normal for a body to get that heavy. Once your body does get to that weight it will defend that weight. The best option for resetting your body is WLS.
You can waste your youth and time trying to lose weight on your own, but it is very unlikely you will be successful and in the meantime you are going to miss out on travel and professional opportunities.
WLS is about more than just dieting. It resets your metabolism and sets off a chain of metabolic changes in the body that you will never get with diet and exercise.
WLS patients hate when people say WLS is the easy way out. It might not be the easy way out, but it is the easiest you are ever going to lose weight if you work with it instead of against it.
You are doing so much damage to your body every single day at the weight you are at, you really don't have the luxury of trying to lose weight on your own. It would be better to have WLS and get the excess weight off as fast as possible as soon as possible.
I suggest you find a therapist and stat working with one. The last year of college is stressful and when you don't have food as a coping mechanism, you might experience some issue. The best defense is a good offense so start with therapy now, so you have fewer issues later on.
    Good Luck @d6g007

I cringe every time I see a response from you...if God gives her comfort then so be it. You may not believe in God but don't take away from those that do. I really pray that God humbles you to be nicer and compassionate to others.

My sister, after I told her I was having WLS:
So is that like Lipo? ??
We grew up in a medical family and I'm astounded by how little she understands about the human body. How in the hell does she think you could suck 100+ pounds of fat distributed throughout the body out of a person at once? What kind of stupid do you have to be to think that's possible?

My best friend and my family were initially the only people I planned on telling. When I told my best friend she said "well I don't think it's fair that people get surgery to be skinny. Now I'm gonna be the fat girl of us two".....
    Ummmmmm what?
Guess who isn't my best friend anymore. And this also played a role in why I decided to be open about my surgery. I needed the support and the people I wanted it from weren't supportive and the people who I never imagined would support me have been there the most.
Crazy. You learn who your friends are in this insane journey.

Correct. Non big people have no idea. Then when you go to a dietician or a psychologist that's NEVER BEEN FAT and they try to tell you they understand. No. They do not understand. ❤️❤️❤️

I did not experience this. In looking it up on the internet, there appears to be a correlation between nausea and hunger.
Nausea with hunger is a well known symptom. It may precede the borborygmi (stomach noises like rumbling and growling) that is associated with the strong stomach muscle contractions, which we commonly refer to as hunger pangs. In fact these hunger pangs may arise as late as 12 to 24 hours after the last meal. Excessive salivation, constantly thinking about food and even lightheadedness and fatigue that is associated with hunger may be later symptoms than nausea.
    http://www.healthhype.com/nausea-and-hunger-sensations-causes-and-conditions.html
Nausea and vomiting are the most common complaint after bariatric surgery. This condition may be due to an ulcer. And ulcers can produce hunger. If that is the cause, then the general advice is to avoid NSAIDs, use a proton-pump inhibitor and have yourself tested for Helicobacter pylori infection.

I've been buying and stocking up on Unjury unflavored and chicken broth flavored powders and Premier shakes in all flavors. Also different variety of broths, sugar free jellos and Popsicle. Just want to have everything and different options since I heard some flavors and brands may be hard to tolerate after. I haven't' bought any Vitamins yet. Have my pre-op upper GI, labs and class on the 12th of this month. Want to talk to them more about the best of the best. My body deserves the best and want to make sure I choose right. Was thinking about BariMelts brands- whats y'alls preferred brands?
I did get myself this adorable portion Yum box. Perfect once I'm in the Puree and on stages. I'm worth it!
