Pounds Thou Art Loosed got a reaction from thegentleoso in Anyone With Kaiser's Bariactric Program?
@@thegentleoso Yes, I started them on Dec 1st. We are on a two week break because of the holidays. I kind of wish we didn't have the break. I really enjoy the classes and the accountability they provide.
Yes, you all had fantastic chemistry! You all had me laughing!!! It really is important (in my opinion anyway). Thanks so much for your offer...I may take you up on it!
I'm really excited about this journey. I've been ready for this for quite some time now. At first I was a little frustrated with having to wait another 5 months to have surgery, but I see now just how beneficial these classes really are. I'm very thankful for right here right now!

I just finished the Options course at Kaiser Woodland Hills on Dec 16, on the 17th, I got a message that my referal was sent to the surgeon, and the following day I got a call and my first appointment is on January 6th. They require you to lose 10% of your body weight before the surgery. At 422lbs, I have 42 pounds to lose. As of this morning, I am down 27 pounds. I will be busting my butt to get as close to my goal weight as I can by my appointment.

The best thing for you to do is remain positive. Gastric bypass surgery is pretty safe. I believe the statistics are something like 1/1000.
You could worry yourself sick with thinking of all the things that could go wrong. The reason they do all this pre op testing is to make sure you have the best possible chance to get through surgery. They won't operate if it is not relatively safe.
You are in much more danger by doing nothing as you already know.
People die when they don't follow the plan. If your doctor requires the liver cleanse diet you follow it, if you are a smoker quit, etc.
Complications arise when you don't follow the plan but I can assure you they won't attempt it if there is concerns that you won't come out of surgery.
Take some deep breaths, ask your surgeon about his/her mortality rate and let him know your fears. I would bet you will feel much more at ease.
Having this surgery done actually saved my life. It is the best thing I ever did for myself.
    Good luck to you!

and I am absolutely LOSING MY MIND. I'm so nervous that eating today is almost impossible, and I only slept for 2 hours last night. I'm terrified of the anesthesia, terrified of the surgery itself.. it's all I keep thinking about.
Tomorrow is a new beginning and it seems so surreal that it's actually happening.

I know a lot of others have their surgeries tomorrow, how is everyone holding up?!

I'm six months out. Last night I was in the market picking up things and I found my self wandering a bit, staring at all the junk I would have once consisdered buying. It was almost like visiting the scene of an accident, where you analyze it trying to figure where things went wrong. I wasn't tempted, just in awe of how much junk I'd have once piled in my cart. I'm healthier, off blood pressure meds and my overactive bladder is a thing if the past. Keep encouraged folks, it's possible and so worth it! I'm certainly not perfect and still have my struggles... But have found far more strength than I thought I had in this journey so far.

Pounds Thou Art Loosed reacted to Ashlegal in A very personal NSV..
I have been going to concerts since I was eleven when my dad took me to see the Rolling Stones. Since then I have been to close to a hundred big name shows and about three dozen live local shows. Every show I have ever been to I have bought a shirt and they were a huge part of my wardrobe; I took very good care of them, made them look cool with jeans, shorts, little skirts, tights, boots, flats, heels, scarves, cardigans, blazers, etc.
Obviously the ones I bought when I was much younger (early teens) didn't fit for very long but then in the last three years, none of them fit well. It felt as if a piece of my identity grew too small for me and it made me sad. I sealed them up, boxed them up and stored them away.
Last night as I was pulling out the last of my Halloween goodies, locating Thanksgiving/Christmas "stuff", I decided I'd bring the box of concert T's in to see if any of them would fit.
All but a dozen or so looked good. Not just fit but look good. I was stoked! And I know that once they get too big, I'm going to make a quilt for my King Size bed out of them! Then I'll start collecting ones in a size that I can strut until the threads wear out.

@@goblue9280 Great minds do indeed think alike!
For the first few weeks after surgery, I didn't ever see myself having or setting NSV's. I had grown so used to just being a certain size, certain weight, a certain physical being that the idea of "losing weight" was very abstract.
Now almost two months out, I am setting goals and looking forward to more "surprise" NSV's!

Yesterday as I walked down the stairs from work; wait let me talk about that for a minute.
There are twelve sets of steps to my building. A set leading to the front door and eleven leading to my floor.
I never, ever took the stairs and doing the first set to get to the building always left me huffing and puffing.
A week post op, I started with doing the first flight, then two weeks post-op did two flights and now nine weeks post-op I can do six with relative ease. I'm hoping by the end of the year I can do all eleven.
Getting back to my original story. Yesterday as I scampered down the steps from the building in a rush to get to court, I about lost my pants. I could feel them inching down and pretty soon I had to make a mad dash to recover them from falling off past my hips.
It was a Catch 22 feeling. On one hand I was embarrassed that my pants were falling down (thank goodness I was wearing pretty panties) and on the other I was stoked that my clothes are getting big enough I can't wear anymore.

Walked into one of my favorite stores yesterday to buy some better fitting slacks for work and guess what....my new size is no longer in the big and talll section. 70 days post op and down almost 70 pounds. I'm still a work in progress, but it's been a great journey so far.

I'm 10 weeks out and did a real purge of my dresser. I'm one of those that held on to clothes that "I'll get into when I lose a couple of pounds".
I was giggling to myself as I tried everything on.
Everything was too big. Nothing was wearable. The little stuff was 2 sizes too big.
The down side is I really need to go get a few things that fit. But I know I'll be able to wear them a few weeks and that's it.
    Thrift stores here I come!
I'm going to keep the clothes I wore to the hospital to remind me.

I can't tell you how cool that is to hear from you both.
We are STILL in the month of your surgeries and you are having this level of success already.
This is highly encouraging to me as I'm beginning the pre-op diet today. I know it'll suck....but the benefits are going to be great. Looking forward to cleaning out my section of the closet....one oversized piece at a time.

A month before surgery, I could barely fit into my size 46 jeans, I was really probably a size 48. I am now 11 days post-op, and I went into my closet to pull out my "old" size 44 clothes, and guess what? They were still a little big! I happened to have one pair of jeans at size 42, and they fit, although a bit snug.
I lost a tremendous amount of weight during my 10-day pre-op liquid diet, and then I have continued to have significant weight loss since the surgery. I am so happy.
I am keeping one pair of my big pants and shirt forever, just so I can remind myself of where I was when I'm feeling low about a stall or something.

My name is Kenneth and I am currently 3 days post op after a Lap-RNY. My preoperative weight was 298 and now I sit at 293. I'm sure it's mostly Water weight. I have had no issues so far and overall feel pretty good for 3 days postoperative. The majority of the pain I am feeling is from the remaining pockets of gas from insuflation but it's not completely unbearable. I'm supposed to start puree foods today but I am hesitant. The thought of puree food makes me ill. I almost want to just stick to Protein Shakes, Jello, broth, and popsicles until I can eat solid foods. The only craving I have so far is coffee. I miss it so much. Lol. That's about it for now. I look forward to reading and learning from this forum. ????

Hello! I am so cal kp as well. My Options classes were at Fontana and RNY bypass on 6/25/15 at St Bernadine. From what I have seen on BP each location is different. I'm sure all the programs are as good as the others. Just different opinions of what works best.

I'm in SoCal and did the options class at Kaiser in Carson. I had my surgery on 10/28/15. The options class was helpful and very informative. As long as you already have the referral to the options program you should be already approved for surgery as long as you meet your pre surgery weight loss goal. The surgeons have the option to put off your surgery until you lose the required weight. During the 12 classes you will get weighed in at the beginning of class. Hope this helps. If you're in the SoCal area let me know. I'd be glad to exchange numbers and information.
