Yep, I told the girls last night that after this gets done, there will be now more Pasta or rice in the house.
They are going to eat veggies whether they like it or not !

I was good tonight, the girls had chicken Alfredo and I was just fine with a nice thick chocolate protien shake over ice.

My spouse says he supports me, but continues to make unhealthy choices around me and even tries to tempt me into eating those things with him.
Most of my coworkers are really supportive.

In my appointments with her, she has said that she recommends sleeve over bypass. I mentioned that I was considering bypass over sleeve, and she told me that I wouldn't want to have the bypass due to nutritional deficiencies. In my next appointment, I'm going to tell her that I've decided that the bypass is the route I want to take. Edited to say that she said someone as young as I am, late 20s can have those nutritional deficiencies, especially with wanting to have children in the future.

My favorite fast food is a stir fry place called One Fresh. They give you so much food that a bowl will easily last me 3 meals now if I have a normal person portion. It would last me all week once I'm post-op. I normally get quinoa now, but I would likely spend a little more and get it without a starch (veggies and Protein only).

i make a protein/fruit smoothie every morning and have been doing so since surgery. I use berries, bananas, whatever fruit I have handy or PB-2 and cacao powder and sweeten when needed with splenda. I swear by them. I also blend veggies sometimes for a drink in the afternoons. I have a sleeve and have never had a problem with them.

smoothies tend to have a lot of sugar (not table sugar, sugar from fruit) and carbs, so they are basically just a way to mainline a lot of sugar, calories, and carbs into your system without even getting much satiety from them or even Fiber, since much of the fiber is destroyed in the blending process.
There is no way I could have had smoothies and still stayed within my daily limits for carbs and sugar during weightloss phase.

My doctor actually recommends them - green smoothies that is. He is very anti-processed foods, so he does not really like the Protein shakes. He asks his patients to move off of them as quickly as possible post-surgery and go to a green smoothie with whey Protein Powder within 4-5 days (I'm one week post-op and having a banana, strawberry, blueberry, spinach, whey Protein One right now). Even the whey Protein Powder is not "real food", and wants us off that as well when we can consume enough food to get our Protein a more natural way.
His view on smoothies is that you still are getting the fiber from fruit (and he has no restrictions on fruit other than immediately post-op of course) so it slows the absorption of sugar and doesn't create a spike, unlike juicing which removes the fiber, which he is opposed to.
I should say, my doctor is much different that almost all of those on here. He does not require the high levels of protein most others require. He looks for 50g a day for females and 60g a day for males. He believes in a "veggie first" approach as opposed to a "protein first" approach. He is also not "anti-carb", he is anti-refined carb and processed anything. So, as long as you are getting your carbs from fruit, Beans, lentils, etc. he is fine with it.
He also does not promote fats at all other than through sources like nuts, avocados, etc. He allows a TBS of olive oil daily.
This can be a sensitive topic though, I would ultimately recommend you go with whatever your doctor recommends.

I drink one most mornings for breakfast: whey Protein, unflavored almond or coconut milk, frozen berries and spinach.
    Sometimes I add PB2.
I am still pre-surgery, however my NUT signed off on me continuing with smoothies post surgery if I'm tolerating them well. She said the one I make meets the nutritional goals...as long as I don't add bananas or other high carb/sugar foods.

Certainly not off limits. smoothies run the gamut from calorie and sugar bombs to a great source of a complete nutritional package. They are just like salads...they are as healthy or unhealthy as you choose to make them. They can be extremely useful for getting your Protein (via powder) during liquid stage of post-op, and they can also be great ways to restart weight loss after a stall.

I have a smoothie every morning. It contains greek yogurt, fairlife milk, 6 frozen strawberries and four packets of splenda. It has 18 grams of Protein, 18 grams of carbs, 0 grams of fat and 142 calories. I moved to this when I got off the Protein shakes. I am actually debating going back to the Protein Shakes as I seemed to lose more weight on them even though they had more calories. May have just been a coincidence...

I can relate to this so much! I am hoping surgery will help with this. My doctor is confident that it will.

I had already met my deductible by time of surgery but not yet hit out of pocket and did have to pay my estimated co-insurance which was overpaid (as the dr ended up filing before the hospital) and I had to get refund from the hospital.

I agree with the other posters. My surgeon knows that the desire to have a child is my #1 reason for proceeding with RNY, and she never mentioned anything indicating this would not be the best idea. Its the weight loss itself that increases fertility and reduces the likelihood of complications during pregnancy - I believe that the type of surgery is irrelevant. The only real issue is if you get pregnant too soon after surgery. Your body needs time to recover from the major changes to its gastrointestinal system, and your weight needs to stabalize. Getting pregnant too early will not only sacrifice your weight loss, since you and your medical team will need to do everything in your power to stop it, but you'll definitely struggle to get in enough calories and nutrients, even with supplements.

As others have said, my surgeon said the complete opposite. I haven't had surgery yet and I am about half way through my pre-op requirements for insurance. As you did, I did lots of research on both the sleeve and RNY. I personally know several people who have had both surgeries and talked to them and asked questions. I know everyone is different, but wanted to hear their experience and why they chose the surgery they chose. I went into my consultation thinking I was set on having the gastric sleeve. I'm 28 and my biggest concern was having a healthy pregnancy. I don't have kids currently either and that's one of the biggest reasons I'm having surgery is to be healthy enough to have a healthy pregnancy and to be around a long time to be a mom once I do have children. When I spoke with my surgeon and told him my concerns and why I was leaning towards the sleeve, he told me I shouldn't have any worries about nutrient deficiencies and not being able to have a healthy pregnancy after RNY. As long as I am eating how I should and taking my Vitamins and taking care of myself, I will be fine. He said that I would actually be ahead of the game so to speak by taking the Calcium and other Vitamins before I get pregnant and when I get pregnant because in the first weeks of pregnancy its the most important for you to have those as that is what helps development of healthy hearts, brains and spines in the baby. He suggested I have RNY due to the amount of weight I am looking to lose and because of my age and desire to get pregnant. As others have stated, he advised I wait at least 12 months before I consider trying to conceive since that's when you have your most rapid weight loss and should wait until your weight stabilizes. But that's with either surgery. After I left thay consultation, my husband and I bother thought RNY was the surgery I shold have.
Those are my surgeons suggestions for me and his thoughts, but everyone and every surgeon is different. Maybe schedule another consultation with a different surgeon just to get their take on things? Good luck!!!

I am almost 12 years post-op RNY and have had 3 completely normal pregnancies. Any complications had nothing to do with gastric bypass. With my first in 2010 ( 6 yrs post op) I told every doctor thinking I would be high risk or closely watched. They were just like "and?...." It was no big deal. They would have reacted if I was 250 pounds (SW). I think it is much healthier for you and baby after RNY than if you were obese. best of luck! Anyone who has pregnancy questions please let me know. I have had 2 csections(not due to RNY) and my last pregnancy was post Tummy Tuck. That was harder than post RNY! Hope everyone is well:)

Each pregnancy has made it harder to lose the weight. I am now about 40 pounds higher than my lowest weight, which was too low to maintain anyway. I had my last baby a year ago, and have only lost 10 pounds since my immediate post pregnancy weight. This time I am trying not to get obsessed and enjoy my life with my 3 boys, but I would really love to lose 20 or 30 pounds. I've been trying everything and yo-yoing for a year. I am really trying to stop dieting and just get back to a healthy gastric bypass diet. I also have been eating and drinking together and not doing Protein first. It's tough, but not impossible. It's also important not to go crazy while pregnant. I think I gave myself way too much flexibility while pregnant, eating things that no pregnant woman should have, let alone a baristric patient should have. Remembering that I cannot eat what everyone else eats because I have had the gastric bypass helps. Finding this website also has helped. I am really trying to focus on my bypass and make decisions based upon my needs as an RNY patient.
