  1. Hello Decembelles, how is everyone doing? I hope you are doing as well as I do on your journey. I am recovering very well, the incisions are healing nicely and they are not as big as I expected. Around the incision sites, the bruising is showing now. With the procedure of the RNY they discovered and fixed a hiatal hernia as well. I tire easily but I am off my pain meds already. At times it feels uncomfy, but it doesn't warrant a liquid narcotic medicine. Walking is the key to a speedy recovery. I am wondering why I feel dizzy during the day sometimes. I know that I am eating, or drinking for now about 500 cal until I hit day 14 post-op. Then I will start wonderful puréed food! Thank goodness I don't feel hungry, like I did the week of full liquids leading up and prepping for surgery. I am getting up around 3am every night because I am thirsty. Then I am sitting in the recliner sipping more water, no issues when I drink 6 oz in a 10 min period. I have a full feeling but it doesn't cause nausea. My best to everyone and let us hear from you on how you are doing please!
  2. Try vegan brown rice protein, I like it!
  3. Really uncomfortable topic, but here it goes: I wish my plumbing were more predictable. I am three weeks out from surgery and was lucky to have a daily BM, there was one or two days without one but smooth-move-tea helped greatly. Today I had an egg and a piece of lean ham for breakfast and grilled chicken for lunch and a Greek yoghurt too. I moistened the chicken when mincing it with mayo. Can that be the trigger for the runs or could it be the artificial sugar sweeteners in the Dannon Light and Fit yoghurt?? Any input is appreciated. Thank you!
  4. Don't be so hard on yourself! Look at all obstacles you've overcome and celebrate your success!
  5. With a gastric bypass, when will I be able to swallow whole tablets of medicine again? I am over three weeks post op and to crush these antibiotics and mix it with water to take is soon yucky and bitter.

  8. Hi, this might be a strange question. I am 5 weeks post-op with RNY, down 27 pounds. I know I am wearing smaller clothes but how come I am still feeling as big as ever? Also since surgery I have no desire to be intimate anymore, is that a hormone thing? Feeling bad for my husband....

    Free Clothes!

I wish we had a clothing exchange with our local support group. It seems it's a shame we just drop it off at Goodwill.

Space out Calcium supplements from your other vitamins by two hours. Also I was told to take half the calcium in the morning and half at night.

    Insurance Tricare?

I was approved by Tricare Prime as a spouse within 24 hours. My BMI was 37 and I had high blood pressure. I also submitted a year of failed Weight Watchers documentation. I was nervous about being approved. I had gastric bypass on 12/21/15 as at the time they did not pay for the sleeve. I would not have changed my decision to get bypass in hindsight either.

    COFFEE

I am under the impression that we ditch coffee in an effort to help us with overall hydration post-op. Actually I was told to quit all caffeine. After surgery at home it will be grader to get fluids in than pre-op because of the size restriction, the time delay with separating eating and drinking (30 min apart). I was told with every cup of caffeinated beverage you would have to drink one extra cup of water, in addition to the 64 ounce daily goal. It gets easier. I thought I could never give up coffee, but it is doable!

    Bread/wraps

I am not supposed to eat any bread. I am only a month out. Hopefully at some point I will be able to have a wrap like that. Looks tummy.

    Alcohol- beware.

Since your stomach won't absorb the alcohol, it affects you very quickly through the intestine. However your live has to work extra hard when you drink now, that why there should be caution. We all committed to be healthier undergoing surgery and all, why should I sacrifice my liver?

If you have a desk job take 2 weeks, if you work physically take 4 weeks.
  20. I was wondering how long after gastric bypass surgery did you feel like yourself again?! I am in my fourth week past surgery and I feel bloated, gassy, and sore in my tummy.

    What shapewear do you recommend?

I feel that just after surgery the shape wear tanks roll up over my belly, which is uncomfortable! The only thing that makes me feel great and works is the Spanx panties with the shape wear for the belly attached. They are $28 gulp!! I had Kohls dollars thankfully.

    When swallowing tablets of medicine?

Thank you friends!! I guess for this course I have to suck it up. By the way: don't waste your money on a pill crusher. I crush mine between two Soup spoon, works like a charm.
