  1. I find any little positive comment or fitting into to something that hasn't seen the light of day for a while brings such immense pleasure. I can finally lift my left leg to put on a sock or tie a shoe. I have severe arthritis in the hip and between the weight and that I had to have my husband put my left sock on. I almost cried when I was able to do it for myself. Being so overweight puts such severe limitations on oneself that when you start to lose it's like a miracle. Congrats on crossing your legs.
  2. I don't know. I don't usually get the flu but it's a possibility. I just feel like crud since New Year's Eve.
  3. Since surgery if I go too long between meals I get a gnawing sensation and experience burping. On New Year's Eve I went out on a boat and we wound up staying out longer than anticipated and started getting nauseous (not seasick). I got back to land and had 4 oz cottage cheese but still felt queasy. Tried to eat dinner and couldn't. I couldn't tell if maybe I was constipated because I would get this nauseous feeling when constipated but finally the constipation resolved itself. I figured the nausea would go away but I'm having problems with solid food. Yesterday and this morning I could get down ricotta cheese with Protein powder mixed in still felt nauseous but tonight again after eating crab I am spitting up globs of mucous and burping. I contacted nutritionist who said to take opremazole which I had been taking and started again. I even tried the nausea meds they sent me home with post op but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyone else experience something like this.
  4. As a rule (pre-surgery) I don't like refried Beans but they're packed with Protein and I add some shredded cheese and light sour cream and I can eat them. It's a break from cottage cheese and yogurt. I whip the cottage cheese with some sugar free blackberry jam and it tastes better. I also do ricotta instead of cottage cheese sometimes. I am at almost 6 weeks and yesterday was the first day I could hold down scrambled eggs. I had turkey sausage with it and ate that first and I think since is was higher in fat it smoothed the way down for the eggs. I still can't eat chicken, tuna comes right up. Crab with a little mayo stays down and so does lobster. The softer the food the better. I struggle to get to 60 grams of protein daily but found a 30g unflavored protein powder that I add to the refried bean or to stewed lentils today that got me up to the right amount. The brand is GENEPRO Medical Grade Protein which I purchased on Amazon.
  5. The broth was the best thing. It was warm and savory. I got tired of the Protein drinks pre op and actually did an extra day of Clear liquids before because I couldn't stomach another Protein shake.

    What's your workout routine?

I am just short of 6 weeks. I too had gall bladder removal surgery and also a hiatal hernia repaired so I'm not cleared for the gym yet. Have been Water jogging with pool weights, lap swimming since week 2. Next apptmt is 1/19 and hope to be cleared for weights/gym. I was just diagnosed with severe arthritis of the right hip so I've been advised not to walk without a cane (which I'm too stubborn to use yet), no walking/jogging for exercise so have to wait until I'm cleared for the gym to do more. Except for this week because of injection to hip which I had to miss 2 days in the pool, I have been going 6 days a week for a minimum of an hour and am about to up that to 2x a day.

    Scared because I cheated

I keep telling myself that I didn't go through that kind of surgery and do that to my body just to fail. I too struggle to break old habits. I am a gourmet cook and love to entertain but I was going to be 6 feet under in short order if I didn't change. Look for new hobbies to fill the time. Go to Whole Foods. On their Protein shake aisle they have lots of single serve packets. Buy a bunch of them and try them until you find one you like.
  8. I'm almost 6 weeks out and having problems with both the Water and Protein still. My nutritionist wants me to do 60-80 grams protein a day. I've started doing 1 Protein shake a day to help with the liquids. I find that a lot of times what I feel is hunger is really thirst. Why not try a beverage next time you're hungry. Congrats on the weight loss.

    Nutri bullet or similar?

My nutritionist warned against blending drinks to add air. Excess gas is an early problem and the air makes it harder to consume the quantities you need

    Food food food

I usually find that to be the case but in this instance it was Christmas Eve and what was listed was what they had. They would allow no substitutions and would not cook anything to order. I just had a shake when I got home. It bothered my family way more than it bothered me. I do however find it stressful when everyone is trying to help me find something to eat.
  11. I was sleeve 11/19 and it took a week and a half for the exterior swelling to go down. Gained 7 lbs post op and it took a week and a half to go away. Sounds normal to me.

    Food food food

Me too. Went to Christmas Eve lunch and they kept trying to tell me what I could eat at a restaurant when nothing would work. Grilled tuna had sesame seeds. chicken salad had celery. Everything had something minor in it that I can't eat. There was a lobster roll on the menu but I didn't want my dad to pay $20 for something I could only eat a small portion and then they didn't have it anyway.
  13. I told friends and family. I did not tell co workers and clients. Clients know I had gall bladder surgery and hiatal hernia repair. They've been supportive but I didn't want all the questions. My sister in law and father's wife ask enough questions for everyone. LOL
  14. I am week five with the same problem. I've tried smaller bites, waiting between bites etc. Anything that is remotely dry won't go down or just comes right back up. Yesterday I tried some roast turkey lunch me and puked 3 times. The easiest things to eat are refried Beans, cottage cheese which I hate, ricotta and yogurt. Unfortunately the yogurt doesn't have enough Protein grams. I just read about another protein genpro that has 30 g in a tbp. I put it in sugar free pudding yesterday and you can't taste it or feel the texture. It was amazing. I think I'm going to try it in yogurt next.
  15. I had to have my gallbladder removed, a hiatal hernia repair and the sleeve all done at the same time. I went home next day and only had to take pain meds that first night home. I had a gallstone that they discovered in pre op tests and since developing gallstones is sometimes a side effect of sleeve surgery they felt it best to do all 3 surgeries at the same time. The only side effect I had from the gall bladder removal was on days 3 and 4 post op where I had sudden bouts of diarrhea. Thankfully it was only those two days. Hope everything goes well for you.
  16. Before the pre op I started on my own. Now I only did it for 5 weeks prior to pre op diet but I would have a special k Breakfast sandwich with a nonfat latte for breakfast (no sweetener) and then did simple Protein with veggies either cooked or a salad with light dressing for both lunch and dinner. I weight 305 when I started and lost 20 lbs prior to the pre op diet. Lost another 5 on the pre op so I had a 25 lb headstart and have lost 15 in the one month post op. After the first week of no bread, Pasta, sugar or diet soda I started to have more energy and felt so much better. Good luck!
  17. Mine was grape and it was vile. I got it down but it was disgusting. The above poster was right; make sure you have a designated bathroom. Good Luck!
  18. Happy Birthday. I so understand how you're feeling; I too miss good food. I'm a bit of a gourmet cook and I cooked dinner for friends last night and had marinated some beautiful cod fish and was looking forward to something good to eat (however my husband overcooked the fish on the grill so the only part of the meal that I could eat was inedible). A nutritionist told me "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." After so many "diets" over so many years I want to feel what being thin feels like again. I think I had my surgery around the same time as you, Nov. 19, and still struggling with how fast to eat and what to eat. It all tastes so boring but I'm keeping at it. You'll do fine. Get out and enjoy the day. Embrace the changes you are making and find something to fill the food void. Me, I'm going to the pool and swim/jog for about an hour. It has been the best part of my day since I was cleared for it.

    Today's the day!

Prayers your way. You'll do great.

    Defining "normal" weight and BMI

My surgeon told me that the surgery alone will do about 65% weight loss. He said once you get there it is all up to you and how hard you work whether you get below that 65%. I think that's why the surgeon and the nurse said two things.

    No Cocoa Powder?

My nutritionist said it's okay to drink unsweetened hot chocolate so I assume cocoa powder is ok and having been adding it to my Protein shakes?!

    360+ pounds?!? help!

I weighed 305. Dr. recommended sleeve as faster recovery time. I felt fine, if not a little sore, for about a week. I am 4 weeks post op and from the pre op diet to now I have lost 40 lbs. More pre than post op but I've been working out a lot and the nutritionist said to just take body measurements and the inches are falling away. I wanted sleeve because I read about dumping and malabsorption and figured I have enough issues without having to add that to the list. The only hunger I am having is real hunger. I don't know if they can do the bypass laparascopically but I was afraid to risk an open surgery being that big. I could only image what it would have taken to sew me back up. LOL

    Shoulder pain

My husband would firmly rub my back and shoulders until I burped and it really helped. Kind of like patting a baby on the back to get them to burp.
  24. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. I have never been one to nap and usually have good energy. However, for the last week and a half (since I went on pureed foods) I am struggling. Yesterday I slept so much I missed a meal and some liquids. I am bone tired. I am out of work until the beginning of January so I have time on my hands. This morning I slept until 1030. Usually I'm up by 730. I am taking all my Vitamins. I admit Protein has been a bit of a struggle so I have gone back to one Protein shake a day with added greek yogurt to up the protein grams. I am pretty close to 60 grams a day as recommended. I have been Water jogging with weights every day except today when I went in to lie down for about a half and hour and wound up sleeping 3 and a half hours. This is so not me. Anyone else experience this?
