    Do You Log Your Food?

I'm similar to @@Babbs above. I log sporadically. If I feel I'm losing control or losing track I start logging again. I use MFP and I weigh/measure all of my meals unless I eat out. If I don't know the nutritional value of a food I'll input it to check/guesstimate. And this may be lazy of me, but even if I do log, it's usually just breakfast, Snacks and lunch. I want to make sure I'm up on my Protein and not getting too much of anything else in.

    Need a Healthy Snack

@Marandogs will your recipe work with non-dairy milk, ie almond milk? I've been craving something sweet that's not a shake or plain applesauce.

    gender bender..

@@Cervidae I am a pansexual, genderfluid person in love with a transwoman. Nice to meet you!
  4. I'm an EMT (not a firefighter) and am trying to join my local Fire Dept. as an EMT. One of the qualifications is that I obtain a physical exam, it's the same physical firefighters go through, with gear on and all. Part of the reason I had VSG surgery was to get in better shape so I can be a better EMT. But right now, I'm completely out of shape! I did join a gym a few weeks back and I've just been walking on the treadmill, as it's the only thing I can handle at this point. Help! How do I get in shape in 2 months or attempt to do so? I don't even know where to start.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I have been an EMT for 2 different volunteer companies over the past five years, so I'm not new to this, it's just this new company in a new town.
  6. Thanks, all for the encouragement and insights. I've decided I really do need to find a fitness trainer that knows more about my situation, and talk to my surgeon. I'm working on bettering my cardiovascular health. I get tired pretty quickly, especially when going up stairs, performing CPR, or carrying heavy bags/monitors. I expect the muscle strength in my legs will be pretty decent from carrying around 400lbs all these years. I'm working on my arms, but they're alright. I can lift all but the heaviest patients.

    Embrace the Stall

I'm at my first stall. I'm 7 weeks post-op, and the scale hasn't moved in 2.5 weeks. I am eating my Protein, drinking my Water and exercising. BUT... my clothes are getting looser by the day. Today I was able to pull my pants off without un-buttoning them, I've never been able to do that in this pair before. And people are starting to notice my weight loss. So even though the number is not going down, my body is changing. And for that, I am glad!
  8. @InnerSurferGirl, I had surgery on December 3. I'm all healed up and good to go according to my surgeon. I'm back on laundry duty at home too (oh, joy)! The weight lifting the trainer is having me doing is starting at 10 lbs and moving up to 30 lbs eventually. Nothing too heavy.
  9. Thanks, but I don't live or work in NYC. The test I have to do is nowhere near this. It involves a treadmill test, a drag test and a weight lift. The woman I spoke to on the phone also mentioned that sometimes they take it a bit easier on the EMS folks since we are NOT firefighters, we do not do the intense amount of physical work they are required to do, and I'm a volunteer, not career.
  10. It's both, @2goldengirl. And, according to all my pre-op testing my body is in great health, except for the fitness part. I found out the requirements for the physical and then spoke to a trainer at the gym about what I should do to get ready. Even though my doctor said no weight training (he doesn't want me gaining muscle, it's heavy), we decided I need to do a little bit to be able to pass this test. I'm going to try and find someone else to consult with, someone who knows more about my type of body/someone who has had experience with WLS patients. I'm also going to try and contact someone who has been through the physical to see what it's really like.

Love my Fitbit charge HR...but it causes rashes!

This may sound weird, but I clean my band about once a week with Water and an old toothbrush. It works really well to get all the gook out of all those nooks and crannies! Hm, I didn't even swear. I guess it just doesn't know that word. All the gross stuff.

    December 3rd

My VSG surgery was Dec. 3rd. How is everyone doing?

    Protein sources

I make a chickpea salad out of mashed chickpeas, mayo, lemon juice and salt and pepper. You can also add grated carrots and or chopped green pepper or celery for crunch and flavor.
  14. I'm so glad to see this post and all the replies. I, too have been struggling in the past week or two with this. I attributed it to being confused between real hunger and head hunger. I work in an office where everyone eats lunch whenever at their desks. Being surrounded by yummy food smells at all hours of the day is killer. I have armed myself with Water, flavored water, tums, a journal/bitch book and some healthy Protein Snacks like Epic bars and cheese sticks. But I always go for water first! Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to buy the book Eat it up.

    400+ pounds?

My highest was 414, I lost some weight and was sleeved at 381 and am now down to 350.
  16. My liquid Multivitamin is making me sick to my stomach every day. I try to eat some applesauce before I take it, but I can still feel it burning in my stomach and it makes me nauseous. It gets worse every day. I'm 4 weeks out. I have 2 more bottles that I bought on sale! Who has suggestions for a liquid, swallow or meltable (I don't like chewable, I have bad teeth) multivitamin that I can take in its place?
  17. I am 8 days post-op and can have liquids and Greek yogurt. I am extremely hungry for "real food" almost all the time. Some of this is head hunger, and some of it is real. To add to my issues, I'm sick with bronchitis and have been given prednisone. A side effect of prednisone is increased appetite. Please, I'm begging you, for tips and tricks and anything that will help?

    Head hunger

I'm struggling with this as well. I'm only 6 days post surgery, and I haven't yet felt that full sensation or any pain. All I can think about is eating real food. Help, please!

    Hudson Valley sleevers

Hi, I went through Crystal Run, Dr.Judd and had surgery at ORMC. The staff at the hospital were great! Make sure you get all your appointments with various drs in. It may take longer than you think!
  20. I had my sleeve done on 12/3. I'm a day behind from all the vomiting I did in the hospital, so protein starts tomorrow. Meanwhile my tummy is very rumbley and I'm craving real food. I was hoping hunger would go away, I don't know how much of this hunger is mental and how much physical?
  21. I had my surgery yesterday as well. I mostly slept the rest of the day yesterday. I've vomited twice, which they say is not a good sign. They have given me every anti-nausea drug the can. No farts yet either, but I've been up and walking a few times. Other than that they say things are looking good
  22. My surgery is tomorrow!! I'm excited and a bit nervous.

    Surgery tomorrow 12/3

My surgery is tomorrow as well, but I haven't been prescribed anything for pain yet.
  24. I'm 2 days pre-surgery and have a sinus infection. I am starting antibiotics today and my nose isn't clogged up, it's further back. I'm so afraid they will push my surgery back. To make things worse, my insurance won't pay for the surgery after the end of the month. Help me calm down, please!
  25. I called, I will see my regular Dr or pulmonologist tomorrow and I'm on an antibiotic. I hope they keep my surgery date.
