  1. I am starting week 3 post-op and am doing really well. Things are healing and I'm hitting my Protein, liquid, and Vitamin targets without a struggle. On my plan, weeks 2-4 are puréed food. My concern is that the sample menu provided by my NUT seems high in calories, especially compared to some plans on here. Basically, the sample menu has me eating 3 meals and 3 Snacks each day, with up to one cup volume at each meal. I calculated the calories for their sample menu, and it is just under 1,000 calories. That seems pretty high to me at this stage. I'm going to ask my NUT about it at my next appointment, but I thought I would ask for opinions here as well. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. And it was awesome! I have been resisting puréeing meat--just the idea of it grosses me out. I made a delicious smelling pork loin for dinner for my family though, and decided I would try to blend it with some broth. It was basically the consistency of tuna or ham salad....not terribly appetizing, but not horrible either. I didn't care how it looked, though because it tasted amazing! I puréed a small amount of steamed green Beans as well, which were also delicious. It is probably a mental thing, but it was so much more satisfying to me to have the same food as my family. I even puréed up some of the leftovers for me to eat over the next couple of days. So, if you are resisting puréeing meats, like I was, give it a try! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  3. For me, the higher percentage of remediation of diabetes with bypass was the reason my surgeon felt it was the right operation for me, and I agreed with him. Read up on both surgeries and ask your surgeon his opinion. Best of luck! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  4. I had my surgery on April 26, so I'm a newbie too, but I thought I'd give you my take. For me, cream of chicken soup would not have worked right out of the gate. I tried some homemade cream of mushroom around 6 days post-op, and it did not sit well with my stomach. For me, the things that have gone down easiest have been sugar free pudding, light Greek yogurt, and Protein shakes. If you still feel yuck today, maybe start with just liquids. As important as protein is, not getting dehydrated trumps it. Good luck! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  5. I am five days in to my ten day pre-op diet. My pre-op diet consists of three Protein shakes, five servings of fruit/veg, and an optional Protein Bar or lite Greek yogurt. I'm doing really well on the diet. 100% on plan. Days 1-3 were tough, but I'm not as hungry now. I am missing food though. Just the satisfaction I get from it, I guess. *sigh*. I know I can do this. First week amounts

Hi all! I'm on day four post-op, and I think I'm doing pretty well. My goals at this point are 64 oz of liquid and 50-70 g of Protein each day. I am eating small amounts at a time, multiple times a day. So, for example, today I had about 4 oz of Oikos Triple zero yogurt for Breakfast. I just finished 4 oz of premier Protein shake for lunch. I plan to have some high protein Jello after a few hours. Maybe a cup of broth with Protein powder, and 4 more oz of shake. That should put me at about 55 G protein for the day. Does that sound reasonable at this stage? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    First week amounts

Sounds good! Every day is a little easier to get wAter/protein in. Tomorrow is one week since surgery. Think I'm doing pretty well!

    Liquid diet

It is hard, no doubt, but worth it. I stuck to right around 800 calories. One thing that helped me was having a cup of broth. Only about 15 calories, but it was great to have something warm and savory. My favorites were beef broth with mushrooms and onions (I was allowed 5 servings of fruit/veg a day, in addition to my shakes) and Swanson flavor infused broth. Mexican tortilla and chicken Tuscan were the best. Very comforting. Also, a cup of peppermint tea helped when my stomach was yuck. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    April 26th is coming quickly

I agree...everything is so sweet. I made some homemade cream of mushroom Soup today (with fat free milk). Had about a 1/2 cup of it. Tasted great, but my stomach has been killing me since. Wondering if it is the milk in it? I haven't tried the isopure powder, but I'm going to. I have one u jury unflavored that I added to. Rastas light, but it turned my stomach. Lots of trapped gas here too....especially after that darn soup today. Been taking GasX strips, which do seem to help. I had some loose stool the day after I came home from the hospital, but that has been it. Took some milk of magnesia today in the hopes of helping regulate things. Herniated discs are the worst. I had one in February of this year for the first time. I could barely walk the pain was so bad. Are you hoping the weight loss will help improve that condition? For your sake, I certainly hope it does. I started seeing my team in June of 2015. Before surgery, I lost about 45 pounds. I would like to loose another 100 pounds, which would put me in a normal range BMI. How about you? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Glad to hear all is well! I've had weird dreams too--even one about eating French fries after surgery. I'm still napping during the day...but I love napping under any circumstances. Trying to get the hang of the full liquid diet and getting enough Water and Protein in. I feel a little better every day, and I hope you do too! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Very excited for my new life!

Your son is adorable! I am 4 days post op and using my son's baby spoons as well! (He is 9, so he certainly doesn't need them.). From what I've read Fiber like Metamucil is a no no for at least 2 months. I think I've read 6 weeks for coffee, but I'm sure each team is a little different. Best of luck to you! 12. I should not drink 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating. I just got home from the hospital today. I drank a few ounces of Protein shake, but then has a sip of Water to remove that taste from my mouth. My question is--does the 30 minute rule still apply when you are drinking your meal as a Protein Shake? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Plantar Fasciitis

I have heel Spurs as well. The best thing for me was getting custom orthotic inserts for my shoes. I wore them nearly every day in the beginning, but now I can get away with wearing them 2-3 days a week without pain. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Packing for Surgery...

I used most of the things I brought. Pillow, pajama pants, toothbrush/paste, deodorant, brush and head band. Chapstick is probably the thing I used the most. I had a book with me, as well as an iPad and charger, but couldn't really focus enough to read. I also had my phone and charger, which I used quite a bit. Instead of a book, I should have brought a couple of magazines. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    April 26th is coming quickly

Had my surgery Tuesday, home tonight. Was exhausted on Tuesday, felt a little more with it yesterday, and am doing pretty good today. Still taking pain pills and zofran, which both help. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Packing for Surgery...

Not weird at all. My dh stayed during the actual surgery and recovery, but once I was put in a room, I told him to go. We have a 9 y.o. Son, but even if we didn't, I don't think he would have stayed. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  18. My surgery is scheduled for this Tuesday--laparoscopic gastric bypass. My surgeons office told me that, if all things go well, they generally release from hospital on Friday. My son has a soccer tournament on Saturday. It is about an hour away and will last for 6-7 hours. There is some walking from field to field, but it is mostly just sitting. I've told my son and husband that I don't plan on going...but I'm wondering if it might be possible. Opinions? It's not a huge deal if I miss it, but if I can go, of course I would like to. Thanks for the input! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  19. Woke up this morning with a massive toothache. I can tell I have an abscess (underneath a tooth that I had root canaled last year). I had some antibiotics leftover from something recent (dr told me to discontinue--I didn't just stop taking). I've managed to draw out some of the infection, and the pain is bearable right now. I'm going to call surgeons office in the morning. They won't cancel my surgery because of this, though, will they? Anyone have experience with something similar? Protein / hair loss

I am pre-op, but have a few kinds of Protein that I like. Celebrate makes some great favors--chocolate mint and iced decaf coffee are my favorite. I also love the Premier Protein ready made shakes--banana flavored is awesome! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    After surgery--opinions, please

Thanks to all. I'm going to put the thought that says, "but if you feel good..." out of my head. My boys will do fine without me for one tournament. It is more important for me to heal well than see a few soccer games. Besides, before too long, I will be able to play soccer with my son, not just watch! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    After surgery--opinions, please

Yeah, that is kind of what I was thinking. I'll just have to enjoy having the house to myself for the day. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Ok who is currently on a preop diet?!

You have been doing your pre-op diet for FOUR months? My hat is off to you. You and I actually have the same starting weight. I was 291 when I first saw the surgeon last June. I'm down to 243 now, which is awesome bc my surgeon didn't think I was a great candidate for laparoscopic at my starting weight. He now feels I should be able to have the surgery laparoscopically without difficulty. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Oh, I know my husband and son will be fine. It's just my job to worry about them. I understand worrying about your dog. I love my little dog. She will cuddle up to me while I'm healing. So sweet and loving. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Ok who is currently on a preop diet?!

Day 8 out of 10 of pre-op diet here. I wouldn't say it has been easy, but I'm trying to stay strong. I can have 3 Protein shakes a day, 5 servings of fruits and veggies and an optional Protein Bar or light Greek yogurt. I can have broth, sf Jello, crystal light as well. I had to go to a picnic at my son's soccer tournament.....not easy, but I made it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
