  1. I feel very much the same way. I am more relaxed, happy and feel proud. Like I did very important thing for myself. Moreover finally I found a consistency in my life. I feel like being in harmony with myself. I have always been a minimalist. Always supported this way of living. Overeating was the only field I failed. Eating too much, junky, not nourishing food made me feel like a hypocrite. And finally I retrieved a composure. And feel really happy about that.

    Broth!

Preparing the homemade broth is excellent idea. In Poland, where I live, we usually do like this. You can even hardy find a ready made broth in a store, except broth cubes full of artificial ingredients. I usually make like 5 liter of my own broth from the whole chicken and piece of beef. Then cool it and skim (take out the fat). Then in the 0,5 liter plastic boxes I just just freeze them. Every time I need the broth I have it on hand.
  3. Hi, I would like to introduce myself. I am from Poland 44 year old woman and had my gastric bypass surgery 14th of October 2015. Bariatric surgeries are not as popular in Poland as in US and finding information is really difficult. I couldn’t find any polish supportive groups as well. I find your forum really helpful and it’s my base source of information about post op proceeding. Hope with you support I will manage to achieve my goals. I am also wondering if someone from Poland is on this forum. See you on the forum !
  4. I want to share my thoughts on food wasting issue. I think it comes from my food addiction and its about how I respect and adore food. And it went even worse now after WLS because of really small portions I need for every meal. I hate wasting food. My ideal model is that I am planning everything and nothing is wasted. But not every time you can foresee what you will eat and how much. I have an obsession on planning. If I have in the fridge something with close expiry date then all my thoughts are how to use it quickly. Sometimes I cannot throw it away even if the expiry date passes. The other family members does not have this obsession. They left the leftovers from meals and they don’t bother to throw them away. If I leave something after meal I am trying to pack everything – even small amount of food and keep it in the fridge for the next time. Unfortunately next time this food is usually not fresh or I may crave for something else. But it really disturb me and I cannot stop thinking that I need to utilize that remaining food. As you may imagine after WLS the problem is even bigger. Its hard to perfectly foresee how much you will eat and your portions are so small that one pack of a product is sufficient for a very long time. I am trying to utilize that food for my boyfriend and sons but sometimes it’s hard to convince them that they should eat something for the sake of not wasting food. I think this problem it’s a part of my unhealthy relation with the food. And WLS didn’t solve this problem so far. I need to work this out by myself. Just wondering if anyone else has this or similar food disorder.
  5. Yesterday I was on my first doctor’s visit after the surgery (5 weeks out). I am living in Poland and had my surgery here. In Poland post op medical support is not very much advanced. On this forum I have noticed that most of you have set weight goals. So being very well educated by you I have asked my doctor: How much of my weight should I loose after my surgery? He scrapped his head and said: It depends, its individual matter, usually people are losing 70% of their excess weight. What in my case give me the goal of about 27 BMI. But of course there are individuals who can reach completely proper BMI factor. I just wonder how was it in your case? Did you Dr set the weight goal for you or you just set it by yourself? What about milestones. My surgeon didn’t set any for me as well.

    Wasting food mental issue

You know, the funny thing about me is that I am a follower of minimalism ideology. I've never collected, gathered too much stuff. I like clean not messy environment around me. I only fail in the food area. And just to be precise for everyone who understood from my e-mail that I overeat to clean up the plate. I do not. If I finish I have only a big urge to utilize the leftovers and the other's members of family leftovers as well. To keep them for the next meal or to optimize cooking that there is no leftovers at all. So the problem is not that physical but more mental. Definitely I need to restructure amount of food I am buying and cooking. After WLS it has been changed significantly. But I am on my way now.

    Wasting food mental issue

Thank you All for your comments. It really makes me stronger to do something about my issue. It’s really hard to discuss this at home as they really don’t understand my food problems. My partner and his sons have quite healthy relation with food and they all are skinny. Hubby is very helpful but I am not 100% sure he deeply understand what I am struggling with. Yes, I am attending therapy sessions since my surgery (5 weeks out). And this is one of the issue I will work out. Just wanted to know if I am alone or anybody else has similar problems. I think it comes from my childhood. I was raised by my grandmother. She survived very hard times during 2nd World War in Poland. And food was really precious to her. She always had to have stored food and nothing could be wasted. Your comments help me understand that I am not a garbage really, and throwing out some amount of food it’s not a tragedy. Especially I am not a poor person and food is relatively cheap so I can get it every time I need. Also what @@Djmohr suggested about using vacuum sealer seems very promising to me. Currently I am working with a lot of plastic boxes but they use lot of space in the freezer.
