  1. I am still experiencing nausea and vomiting 8 weeks postop. Is there anyone else dealing with this? My surgeon says to push through it. I'm miserable. I can't eat or drink without vomiting. I'm still in the mushy phase due to this setback so I know it's not the wrong foods. Any advice appreciated.

    Stricture questions

Were you nauseated constantly with the stricture?

Nausea and vomiting 8 weeks postop

I'm really wondering if it's a stricture also. I'm trying hard not to become dehydrated.

Nausea and vomiting 8 weeks postop

Forgot to mention I'm taking Zofran and have the patch behind my ear; however, they have not been effective. Ice helps but I'm not keeping much else down.

Constant Sour taste in my mouth

I'm 6 weeks postop. My taste buds have definitely changed. I feel that my breath smells bad all the time regardless of brushing or rinsing. I guess it's part of the process.
  6. I'm used to having popcorn and soda when I go to the movies. What can I take with me at 4 weeks postop that will curb that craving??
  7. Let me tell you, I thought I was going to die too! I had excruciating gas pain, couldn't get anything down bc my throat felt closed, extreme fatigue, breathing issues, headaches, etc. Try hard with fluids bc I ended up with a bladder infection...and had to take antibiotics....no fun.
  8. I had the same issue. My doctor asked if I was constipated...and I was. Try some milk of magnesium. He told me I needed a good blowout...lol. He said constipation is common with sleevers. Hope you feel better!
  9. I understand how you feel. I'm four weeks postop and I was miserable for three weeks. I had the nausea and fatigue and couldn't get a lot of fluids down. Biggest thing that helped was my doctor told me to increase the nausea meds to every four hours. He also prescribed an inhaler bc I was so short of breath. Another thing that added to my misery was that I was constipated...milk of magnesium helped. Believe me, being constipated will make you miserable. Definitely talk to your doctor and nutritionist. I regretted this for three weeks, day in and day out. I didn't think I would get better...but you know what? Each day gets better.

    Movies, popcorn cravings...

Well, I made it through without popcorn! I stopped at Wendy's and had a small chili....only ate about four or five spoonfuls. As soon as I walked in the theater I smelled the popcorn, the butter....omg...it smelled so good. And then after inhaling the aroma for a while I felt a little nauseous. I got a cup of ice at the concession stand. Just to have something cold in my mouth to munch on made me feel better.
  11. I'm three weeks postop. I dealt with that also. My doctor said it was spasms. It lasted two weeks for me.
  12. I'm in Birmingham. I had the sleeve performed on December 18th with Dr. Touliatos. My first two weeks were rough, but I'm much better now. I didn't have to go through the six-month process. My insurance approved me within two weeks and then I did the two-week preop diet.
  13. Thanks, everyone, for your responses. I was evaluated in the ER and given prescription for Carafate, 4 times per day. It has helped tremendously. They ruled out blood clots in my lungs and blockage. I feel a lot better today and have been able to get fluids down. Thanks for your concern. More importantly, Merry Christmas!
  14. I had VSG on Friday and was discharged on Sunday. I have been struggling with fluids and pain. Yesterday I barely got in 12 ounces, and that was an all-day effort. My throat and chest hurt significantly just to even swallow saliva. Honestly, it feels like a blockage. I called my doctor's office this morning and left a voice message for the nurse. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal? Should I push through with the liquids even though it's painful or go to the ER?
  15. Nurse called back and said I need to come to the ER. She said it could be inflammation but need to get checked out and get fluids intravenously. Bad thing is there's a heavy thunderstorm in progress and expected all day. In addition, I live 45 mins from the hospital and live alone. I'm going to try taking sips standing up. Thanks for the suggestions.
  16. I know this sounds weird...but do you have to have someone there at the hospital while you're having surgery? I don't have any family members near me and I have only shared this with a couple of people who are unable to take off work. They can insure I get there and am picked up. I'm praying all goes well and they can be on standby if a situation arises. Has anyone done this "alone"?
  17. Yes, I have zofran. It's not very effective right now. I plan on calling him in the morning.
  18. Thanks. I'm praying it goes away soon. I'm so uncomfortable. Before surgery they put a patch behind my ear for nausea and then I was given two Tylenol and a pepcid...presurgery.

    Anyone getting sleeved 12/18?

The extra day helped because I live alone and due to the intense pain I opted for an extra day. They were pushing for me to leave the hospital because the longer you stay, the greater risks for complications like pneumonia and blood clots. Feels good to he home today despite the pain. I'm walking in my house with a cane for stability.
  20. Thank you! Yes, this pain is so bad on the right that every time I move I feel like I'm going to burst my incisions open. Yes, small sips... and crushed ice is my best friend. I just took a protonix pill. I'm going to do the gas strip also. I can't imagine getting in my bed at least for a couple more days. I do not have a recliner, but I do have a big comfy chair. I strongly advise people to use a pillow over your stomach in the car because it seems like we hit every bump on the way home.

    Anyone getting sleeved 12/18?

Hey there. I pray your surgery was a success. I had mine Friday and was discharged this morning. I'm still in a great amount of pain and nauseated.
  22. Well, I'm happy to report that my surgery went well on Friday. I stayed in the hospital two nights, was discharged about 9 am today. I'm so nauseated and I threw up some blood. My pain level is still around an 8, but I just took some meds. I wish I could have been like some of you and have no pain on third day. I'm getting in a couple laps in my house, but I'm so weak. I pray the pain subsides in a day or so. It hurts more on the right side.
  23. I confirmed that I don't have to have anyone there, but definitely must have someone to drive me home. I have a small "circle" but they have work obligations and I totally understand.
  24. Update: I was told that they will lock my items in a locker and security will bring them to me when I get to my room.
