  1. Me: well I guess I won't be having surgery anytime soon my insurance changed their guidelines to 2yrs of supervised diet . I only have 6 months down. Husband: Well maybe you can try working out now and lose the weight on your own. You lost 6 months going to appointments and stuff. Me: well it is easy for you to say because you are not in my body. What happened to all your support? Husband: well nothing is happening , you need to do something about it now. Don't wait for surgery, And you still have my support. Me: okay thank you. ( in reality I was so angry, maybe because he was right. Maybe because I gained 7 pounds in the last 6 months. And if I keep it up who knows how much weight I will have gained at the end of two years. And most of all the thought of going down that road of dieting and exercising, we all have been there before and had little to no success. Just to gain all the weight back plus a few bonus pounds . It is that cycle I want to avoid. I need this tool to make my weight loss a success and to keep me moving forward. Now to make him feel what I feel, I make him eat what I eat and make him workout with me too. We have been doing this for a week now and he is ready to give up. But won't admit it. We made a deal if he gives up I give up. So I will keep pushing him until he sees my point.
  2. I have thought about Mexico many times. But I am a little afraid. I know a lot of people have had surgery in Mexico and are doing just fine. But will not discard that option. Hehehe The same thing happened to me with my insurance! I need this to save my life so my husband agreed to help me self pay. We are both terrified of surgery in Mexico as my aunt died getting a tummy tuck abroad as well as many other horror stories I've heard... So we searched until we found an American surgeon with reasonable fees. My surgery is 6/7 in Michigan and the cost is $11,000. Sure it was a bit higher than Mexico, but worth it for my peace of mind. I would consider self-pay if you can make the financial sacrifice and get your husband to back you! Good luck sweetheart! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thank you! 6/7 is just around the corner wishing you the best!
  3. I really wish i was wrong, really really wish I was...
  4. I will definitely talk to my surgeons staff about getting grandfathered in. Next step will be switching insurance, I have medi-cal. Thank you so much
  5. Try to Stay busy during the process. You will see that time will fly.
  6. I hope so too. I want him to understand that whatever works for him may not work for me. His point is that I shouldn't wait around for surgery to happen because there is a chance I may not get approved. Something about that really annoys me. I have convinced my self that surgery is the only way. While He is convinced that surgery may be of big help, he also strongly believes I can lose the weight by exercise and dieting.

6 or 7 months medically supervised diet?!

Oh no you too?! I am having same issue with my surgeons office, I was even told that there is new guidelines that insurance is now requiring visits up to 2 years (leaves me with 1yr 6 moths left!) [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]. I hope this get sorted out for you!
  9. Yesterday I had my last appointment with my surgeon but I was advised a week ago that my insurance (medical) has new guidelines that require 2years of dietary notes (it used to be 6 months). The girl at the front desk said maybe if I keep going for another year that should suffice the requirements. When I met with the surgeon I mentioned to him that I was a bit upset that now I must wait longer, he looked a bit confused and checked my record and said I am sure we can submit next month. So Who is right? It is hard when I keep hear two different things. [emoji17]

I hope so. I asked him if this doesn't work ( insurance approval) how much does the procedure cost he said 18,000. I immediately thought Mexico, I will go to Mexico. Then he added but don't worry I don't see a reason why you won't get approved just wait till next visit! why do they make it so hard to get approved!

Initially I was told all I needed is my 2 year weight record. 6 months of dietary notes, NUT and psychological evaluation. Which I have done all I even provided them with a 3 year weight record. My next appointment is June 30th I am hoping it goes just the way the surgeon said and they submit to my insurance then. SusanB55 I have medical ( Preferred IPA of California through LA Care) I have called both LA care, and IPA and both said that they weren't allowed to give me any information over the phone, that I should be contacting my Drs office. I feel like I am going in circles.

I know. I have completed all, I have done my psych evaluation and nutrition.
  18. Initially LA care required 6 months of dietary notes (visits). My last visit would have been May 16. But little did I know about there is new guidelines that now require 2 yrs? So discouraged. I was so close and now I have to wait longer! [emoji17]

  20. Just met with my surgeon today all he needs from me is any doctor visit in the last 2 years that shows my weight. The problem is that I didn't have insurance therefore I didn't have any doctor visits ???? I don't know what to do...
  21. Today was my 3rd consult out 6 with my bariatric surgeon. I was asking the receptionist there about the whole process to getting approved for surgery. When she starts to review my medical file, she noticed that out the 2 year weight history they requested, one of them is not very detailed but it does show my weight then, (and was definitely overweight) and the other report has a note from the dr stating her concerns for my weight. Long story short, I may get denied because one of my weight history is not as detailed. And to top it all off she said that my insurance has been very picky lately. ???? feeling a bit down.
  22. Last month I had my 2nd out of 6 consult and I asked about the pre op diet and the surgeon said due to my weight (220lbs) he will only require me to do a 2 day liquid diet before surgery. Does that even sound right? I was expecting him to say 2 to 3 weeks.
