  1. @@ssflbelle - I got my appt at the time I had my initial consult. My surgery was scheduled 11/18th , this date was given to me back in July. They do 10 surgery cases Mon, Tues, and Wed.

My surgeons office know exactly what the requirements are, so anything they asked of me, I gave. That is why it was so surprising that they would deny me. Also, when I got the denial letter and read it, I had done all the requirements. Anyway, I am so happy that I am scheduled. I am on a pre-op diet now. My surgery is this Wednesday. Ive been reading a lot of postings that everyones diet is different. I

  2. Pre-Op Diet - Has anyone cheated?

I started my diet on Wednesday. My diet consists of 4 Protein Shakes per day but I can replace two shakes with either 4 eggs whites; fish, or chicken. I can have V8 juice; non fat yogurt, high Protein Jello or pudding, and 64 ounces of Water.< /p>

This is what my meal intake looked like today..:

This morning I had my 4 eggs whites, 1/2 cut of oatmeal.< /p>

    Snack:protein shake;

Lunch: I had fish and broccoli,

Snack: 1/2 cup of high protein pudding.

Drank water through out the day and was real hungry,

Dinner: Protein shake / non fat yogurt

I am in the mood for some garlic cheese just a bite, has anyone cheated on their pre op diet? if so how much? Does anyone's pre-op diet look like mine above? Please let me know.

  3. @ 2 goldengirl, in reply to your response, yes I knew what the requirements were before going into this. Also, as I was going to my visits the surgeons office contacted me at all times. When I visited my surgeon for the pre-op appt, I asked have you heard anything from the insurance company and she said no but I am not worried. Your insurance company is very good and I have no doubt that they will approve you.

Well, I was approved. The surgeon and insurance company did a peer to peer and was approved. I was notified Thursday.

  4. @ southern sleeve - Yes, I knew the requirements not only did I know but also I was told by the coordinators at the doctors office what I needed. I provided everything I was asked to provide. At the time of my pre-op visit I asked my surgeon, have you heard from the insurance company and she said no, but I have no concerns because I am sure they will approve.

I received the letter today from the insurance company and it didn't make sense that they would disapprove me because I followed their protocol. Not sure if all the documents were submitted or not, but the end result is " I was approved for surgery".

  5. @@Tobeornottobe - yes, they are going to do a peer to peer review. I also called the insurance company to appeal and was told that the surgeon can appeal. It is scheduled for tomorrow. I am gonna turn on candles and pray (Catholic) for this to go through. I hate to have to touch my husbands 401K and use our retirement fund for this surgery but I've invested so much time, effort, gone to visits, psych, heart, lung, endoscopy, to let it all go to waste. On top of it. I am already paying the remaining balances that all these visits and tests have incurred. Please send me good vibes, I need all I can get.

  6. Hi,

My surgery date is scheduled for November 18th. I got a call from my surgeons office saying that I was denied. Because 1) I have sleep Apnea yet no record of a Cpap Machine. 2) I am not on meds over 3 years 3) BMI less than 40.

I've provided everything asked of me.

    1) Two letters from my physicians stating that they recommend me for Bariatric Surgery and provided a history. Strong letters from the doctors.

    2) I've been on a Water pill for about or close to 2 years for water retention.

    3) I was diagnosed with Moderate Sleep Apena

    4) At the time I was seen I had 36.9 BMI, but my BMI is 38.9 per a wellness screening done.

I have done everything the surgeons office has asked me to do and to find out a week prior to surgery that I am not approved is frustrating.

I asked that they do a peer to peer. It's a lot of time invested, money, Vitamins, Proteins purchased. And, I am already paying my copays for the endoscopy done and lab work etc...

Anyone has gone through this , and finally got approved? I need some hope. Tomorrow I will know for sure. If not I will need to do self pay.

  7. @@brittd, I guess it wouldn't hurt if you did go on a liquid diet. Broths, Protein Shakes, High Protein No Sugar Jello-0 or pudding. A meal, chicken or fish, the size of a pack of deck cards, cooked veggies such as broccoli, carrots. Try doing it for a week. Or, call your doctors office and say that there was no mention of a pre-op diet but that you hear many do. For me I only have to do one week pre-op diet because my BMI is under 40. For patients over 45 BMI, they have to go for 2 weeks.

  8. @@buzzly36, hang in there, you can do it. Don't do anything to jeopardize your surgery, hang in there you will be fine. I will be doing my pre-op diet next week on Wednesday. I read your post and one of the things I've been told is that once we have surgery, we will not feel hungry. Not sure, I'm not there yet, but they cut off this hormone that produces hunger. We won't be eating as much. I'm hopeful that this is the case, I've thought about it too, will I feel this hungry after Ive had surgery, etc.etc...... Hang in there.

  9. @Blerd girl - No, I don't think so, because if it did, she would of ordered a Cat Scan. It wouldn't even show up on a Endoscopy. She said she would know once she is in there. That is a chance I am taking, and willing to take. My parents feel that my hernia was above the esophagus, so hopefully, this is a good thing. Trying to keep positive. :)

  10. My concern is that I had Hernia surgery at the age of 7 but don't know what type. Its right on the center of my chest (esophagus). I cant get records going back that far. The concern my surgeon has is we don't know till we get there. She said not sure if there is a mesh, but if there is she will try to go around it. I do remember the hernia was on top of my esophagus. Im trying not to think of it much and be positive. I told her of my other concerns and she was not concerned of a Tummy Tuck i had but surely of the hernia surgery.

  11. @ dusky goddess: My sleeve is scheduled 11/18th, and my coworkers are already planning on where to go for Christmas dinner. My family are the only ppl that know about my surgery. I haven't said anything to anyone else. I guess I will need to see how I feel when the time comes. I want to go and mingle with friends. I figured if I will know the restaurant before hand I can look at the menu and order something mushy, or Soup. I don't want to say to anyone that I am on a diet or that I had sleeve surgery. I will see how it goes, but I feel you. You don't need to un socialize, you can still socialize with your friends just plan ahead to assure that you are within your diet guidelines.

  12. When i decided to have surgery i told my family and they were supportive and still are. When i told a friend of mine, she went on to say Why, your fine, etc etc.. I thought she would be supportive , the same to a coworker who at the time was giving me advice in what to eat and how to go work out at gym. I said something to the effect "i know of a definitive way i can jump start my weight loss" and he immediately said how. When i mentioned WLS he goes don't do that etc etc.. I came to realize is best not to mention a word. I don't need or want to hear negativity except ppl to support my decision, the only ones being supportive are my family. I do wonder what and how fast i will lose the weight and what I plan on saying then. Keep quiet, say Im on a diet, or that i had surgery.
