  1. Oh! And about the gym... Remember 2 things: 1- most of the folks there are too absorbed in themselves to notice what you're doing, 2- you are improving YOU the best you know how and... those who matter to you are glad for your efforts and those who aren't glad or don't care don't really matter to you. ♡ besides, you sound pretty slender already sp the judgment from the small minded, there to make fun of people, jerks won't be making fun of you. :) there aren't nearly as many of those as you'd think. I used to go to a BIG Gold's Gym and the intimidating people were far too absorbed in staring at themselves while they worked out and the judgmental people were easy to steer clear of - just find a place away from them to exercise and you forget they exist!

  2. A trainer is always a good option for beginners as they don't just tell you what to do but show you how to do it...which is just as important, if not more important...especially for avoiding injury.

There is also a site where you can either build custom workouts or choose pre-made workouts for various muscle groups and each exercise is illustrated to show you the proper technique as well. Many of the exercises can be done at home with no equipment or minimal equipment if you want to invest in a workout ball, bosu ball, or resistance bands/dumbbells. It's a great resource. It's called workoutlabs.com

    Best of luck.

AND trainers push you and you find you can do so much more than you think. When I had a trainer, we learned not to tell me what weight I was lifting until I had already lifted it. It was SHOCKING the amount I could lift, safely and sometimes even easily! Now I can't afford one but I definitely wish I had one!!!! HIIT is a good way to lift but you need to watch form carefully and I'd recommend finding a class to join as they usually have trainers teaching them that can give you guidance throughout.

  3. There are not enough words for how much I needed to hear this right now. I'm sitting at about 10 months post-op and have only lost about 50 pounds and feel JUST LIKE the example lady. Last night I cried in the shower for the overwhelming feelings of failure and disappointment with myself and my choices. (bearing in mind that since my surgery, I changed jobs for the first time in 13+ years, my dad died suddenly, we moved, I had a big work project for the first time ever and am about to deal with another loss in the family most likely sometime this week.) I am reaching out to some other bariatric folks and hoping to find accountability. I'm also working on seeing if my husband and I can find room in the budget for me to join a local gym that offers childcare for a small price - since I will usually be unable to hit the gym without my daughter, I need to use a bit pricier of a place so childcare is offered. Anyway, I'm working on overcoming my thoughts, but it is quite a struggle and this article COMPLETELY resonates with me. THANK YOU for sharing it. <3

  4. Is there anyone I can connect with for accountability? I'm about 10 months post op and have only lost about 50 pounds. Shortly after my surgery, I got a new job,my dad passed with little warning, moved, had a huge work project, and now am dealing with my grandma-in-law about to pass. I haven't been on track with food OR exercise and I want to do better, but I lack the moment to moment focus and need someone to check in with me if I haven't checked in with them daily... even via email or something. Please. I'm in IL.

  5. I don't think you have stretched your pouch. But on the other hand, it is extremely important to follow the daily meal volume limits if you want to maximize your weight loss. The weight loss phase is relatively short and then your weight loss will level off and you will slide into the maintenance phase.

Do you know what the volume limits are at each phase?

  6. Can someone please tell me how you are getting in your Water? It is so hard for me! I have had 2 IV's in 2 weeks. All Water tastes horrible. I have tries Crystal Light, infusing it, etc. I haven't had a bowel movement in 5 days. Not sure how that could happen if I'm eating a few bites here and there. I had my surgery on June 29th and have lost 40lbs. I am so discouraged by the water and hydration, that I am regretting the surgery. I teach and go back in 3 weeks and don't see how I can do this. I am weak and have no energy. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

I used a timer and took an ounce when the timer went off... and I made sure all my water was ice cold. Can't stand it any other way. Not sure if that will help you. I also used alarms on my Fitbit to remember Vitamins. :) you can do it. Don't push it. Oh! And invest in a good quality double-wall stainless steel cup - that'll help the water STAY cold for hours since it takes longer to drink now - i think mine is only 12-16 oz.
