  1. i have read and been told that the sleeve postop just feels like you have done too many situps... this post is a little scarier!

what should I be expecting? surgery is next week!

The pain of the actual surgery (incision pain and such) wasn't that bad. Too many sit ups is a good description, I was off pain meds by the 4th day I think. It's just a mild sore feeling now (15 days out). It was the gas pains that were so bad. It's hard to really explain the feeling. I've never experienced anything like it. Walking does help even though it was hard to do. Not because it hurt, but I was so out of it from pain and nausea medication I felt like a zombie walking. If you have someone that will be there for you, tell them to make you do it. I had to have my mom continue to wake me up. I feel so much better now, I just wasn't prepared that I would feel that way. I don't think I would have been so upset if I was mentally prepared that it might happen. Just know it's a possibility that you may have gas pains that are very uncomfortable, BUT IT WILL GO AWAY! I had chewable gas x and had my mom make me get up and walk to move it around and out! I just didn't know it could be like that so when it happened, all I could think was "oh gosh, what did I do?" "I'm going to be the person who doesn't do well" but come to find out, it's obviously very common and just part of the process. All well worth it. On my 10 day post op appointment I had lost 18 pounds!

  2. I tried to go shopping at costco today (on a Saturday what was I thinking) and was so drained after I slept for three hours... I think it is going to take longer than I thought to recover too... I'm starting to get hungry again and that's frustrating because my stomach is still raw and Jello only does so much... I hope that you guys start feeling better soon

I know what you mean, I'm still getting tired pretty easy and my head hunger is really getting me. I feel like I'm so so hungry, and then to sit down with something and have to really make sure I go slow. And I can't get in anywhere near what my mind thought I would. Now I'm full after eating, but it's hard to block out my mind and listen to my new baby stomach!

Jello got old really quick, as well as chicken broth. Today I cooked boneless skinless chicken breast, then mixed the chicken breast, the broth from it with Campbell's cream of chicken Soup and put that into my nutra ninja. Added just a little chicken broth to make sure it was my doctors suggested "sippy and drippy" and it was really good. I know the cream Soups aren't the most healthy but I just wanted some flavor!!!! I ate it slow, made sure to "chew" any little pieces of chicken that were left, and I didn't have that "ugh" feeling after. It's really hard sticking with the stage so I've tried all sorts of things. Also got Campbell's vegetable soup and ground it up to no chunks and it was good.

Hang in there brighteyes! You are not alone!!!! post-264319-14542216236616_thumb.jpg

  3. I'm better but still not getting in the complete liquid goal or Protein goal. My dr office said that was normal, to just set small goals. Even if it's just to add half and ounce every other hour of Water. And from what I can tell, few people start out meeting these goals. I did go to the ER on the 5th day. I didn't feel bad but I wanted to make sure I wasn't getting too dehydrated. I have really struggled with the protein. The powdered shakes have all tasted awful. I also tried the Isopure drinks and they were too chalky. The only shake I can tolerate is the GNC total lean in the chocolate ready to drink bottles. A lot of the shakes (muscle milk, nectar, Bariatric advantage) they all tasted SO sweet!!!! I did however blend some van camps chili this afternoon. Got a good bit of protein. And it was so good. I little less bland that the chicken broth and blended Soups I've had. Another thing that was good and felt nice on my tummy was blended oatmeal. I'm really tired of the liquids thing but I keep trying different things to try to keep a variety. sugar free Jello, applesauce, I also purchased some of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004QZBEFU/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they have been great! They have measurement lines (also come in a 2 oz cup) they are BPA free so perfect to go from fridge or freezer to microwave and I know when I get to two ounces and can put a lid on it and come back to it later. Sorry for such a long post!!

  4. Hang in there bright eyes! I posted a very similar post days ago because i was really feeling AWFUL! http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/359611-post-op-day-two-help/ I had lots of people reply they had a similar feeling. i had surgery on the 20th and yesterday (one week) I went for a walk outside for 30 minutes :) I am able to get down more, I'm off pain meds, gas meds, no nausea meds. Now of course we are all different and have different levels of tolerance to those things, but you WILL feel better soon! I wouldn't have thought so. I was thinking there was no way I'd feel like going back to work, now I feel like I'll be ready :) Hope you are feeling better today. *hug*

  5. Thank you guys, I just heard so many people at support groups talk about how good they felt. I can barely hold my head up. I'm staying with my mom and she continues to wake me up to make sure I'm getting in the Fluid but I can't get the goal amount of 64oz. I'm still quite swollen in my belly. I can't wait till this feeling is over. I've never felt so awful in my life. If I would have known it would be like this I'm not sure if I would have done it.

  6. I was sleeved on the 20th and it has been a rough time from the start. Dry heaving at the hospital in recovering, I can't stay awake, and today I tried to get in all my liquids but can't. I've got almost 40 oz of Water. Gas pains have been horrible, the liquid and chewable meds make me want to gag, and my stomach is so sore. And to top it off, I've started my period. Please someone tell me it gets better soon. This is not what I expected.

  7. Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've been considering surgery for a few years and I have my appointment with the surgeon in a couple weeks. I am 28 years old, I'm 5'5 and at my highest weight of 280. It's pretty evenly over my body with a little more around my waist. I was hoping being younger would help me in the skin area but I've made the mistake of searching about the topic of loose skin online. I'm terrified. I want to be heathy but I'm scared about the skin issue. I think I'd be more self conscious about the loose skin than being overweight. I'm also single and then there is the fear of someone would see me in clothes and then if things got serious and saw me without clothes if I have a bunch of loose skin everywhere, that they wouldn't be so kind. I understand that some loose skin is just going to be a fact, but I've seen some you tube videos of lots of loose skin that required surgery. Painful looking surgery.... I have been really excited about the appointment and now I'm second guessing. I need some encouragement. Anyone not have an issue with loose skin??
