  1. The only thing that I was afraid of was that the surgery would be cancelled for some reason. I followed my preop diet but I was afraid my liver would still not shrink enough. I had told my sister this before surgery. The first thing I remember after surgery is her telling me that the surgeon said my liver looked great and that he did do the surgery.

  2. I would just try to ignore her advice. She has not found a way to solve her own weight problems but wants to tell you what to do. She probably isn't doing it our of hatred, she is just uneducated about WLS. She sounds like she wont be responsive to your advice so just let her stay ignorant.

  3. I know… and that's the dilemma. I know the sleeve isn't magic; it simply forces you to eat minimal calories at each meal. If I am eating smartly and exercising, how is that different from having the sleeve? I don't know- maybe I am just delusional from hunger at the moment, LOL, but I am less sure now about having surgery than I've ever been. Is this common?

It is completely different with the sleeve. This has been the easiest way ever to lose weight. You will be able to eat a lot less without struggling. If you have had a problem in the past with keeping weight off, this is the way to go.

  4. I find it interesting that most of you actually had a "tray" of food when in the hospital after WLS. I was not given a "tray" ever; I was in the hospital for 2-1/2 days and was just brought Gatorade, Water, and asked if I wanted a popsicle. No broth, no Jello, no Protein shakes were given. The diet while in the hospital was Clear liquids only. Just thought it was interesting, and to prove that depending on who and where you have surgery, the rules can be a bit different.

I was thinking the same thing. I was at the hospital for two days and they only brought me ice chips, gatorade, and Water. Nobody said anything about eating or drinking Protein Shakes the first few days. After I got home, I did start drinking Protein Shakes.< /p>

  5. Thank you for all of the responses!

I will be getting on birth control before surgery, as a precaution. My husband and I have not been on birth control or used protection for two years, and nada. We haven't been "trying" to conceive, but would welcome another child (in the future).

@@Bufflehead, your response to my question number 3 made me bust out laughing lol. I suppose you wouldn't be an expert with that;)

@@Shemekasr, Glad I could make you laugh:) Are you excited/nervous? Your date is getting closer. Please keep us updated with your progress, and since you'll be having surgery a few weeks before me, if you have any advice closer to my surgery date, I would love to hear it!

Y'all have answered all of my questions. One last question. When can we go swimming after surgery? I am going to the beach in mid-July which will be about a month after my surgery. Will I be able to swim? Thanks again everyone.

P.S., how do you add your height, weight, etc under your info that shows up under your name, gender, location? I can't figure that out.

i had to wait 8 weeks before going to the pool after surgery.

  6. I know that it is scary to read about the possible complications. I can't promise that you won't have them. But I can tell you that is very rare to have complications that can't be taken care of in a relatively short amount of time. For me, it was worth the gamble, Seven months out and I have not had a single problem. I felt bad the first few days and it's been great since then. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

  7. @@PayItForward The topic was something I wanted info about. What I didn't want was propaganda about Forks Over Knives or being told that milk would kill us and contained pus. The same propaganda that's been repeated on several threads in the last 24 hours and having nothing to do with WLS - in fact attempting to talk someone out of it!

Just passing along some advice that someone gave me yesterday when I disagreed with a post. :)

Only in this case it wasn't applicable. :-)

Yes, it is. You just don't like to follow your own advice. :)

  8. That is the question?!?

I am running the gambit of emotions here. A dear friend of mine was sleeved about two weeks ago, and she is the reason I am considering the surgery. I have considered it in the past, but dismissed it because I always thought I would eventually achieve the weight loss on my own. Well, that hasn't happened.

My biggest question to myself is, if I am going to have to make the food and exercise lifestyle changes anyway, then why should I spend the money and go through the risks of surgery? My answer to myself is - because I won't have a choice (as far as food goes). And my husband asked, You aren't working out now, why will it be any different than if you have surgery? (he didn't say this maliciously, he has always been very supportive of me in my bajillion Weight Loss attempts)

I am so conflicted. The thought of getting to a healthy weight is absolutely exhilarating. The only time I have been at a healthy weight is when I first met my husband (over 20 years ago) and even then I was probably considered overweight.

I can only tell you that the surgery has made it much easier for me to cut down on how much I eat. Once I lost weight, it was much easier to exercise. I know that people can gain weight after surgery, but truthfully, it would be harder for me to gain weight than to continue to lose weight. I would have to put a lot of effort and time into gaining weight.

  10. OMG that app is so cuuuuuteee I have to have it. Now.

When you lose weight and have more room in your torso, your bladder will be able to hold more. I am shocked at how long I urinate for now. Sometimes in the morning I get almost bored waiting for it to end.

Anyway it will probably be hard for you to get to 64 for a while anyway, and the Fluid in your food and Protein counts too. We get hydration from everything we eat and drink, even coffee.

What is this!? The Water in our food counts too? How do we count Fluid when it comes from water.. I mean a Protein shake is pretty easy or coffee.. or low cal juice etc.. it's just the fluid ounces but how do you count the fluid from food!?

Also even though it's hard isn't it like absolutely vitally important to be able to drink the 64?

Try to drink 64 oz of Water on top of whatever you eat.
