  2. I had the same problem. For me, it turned out to be the almond milk that I was using in my shakes. I had been drinking almond milk for years with no problem until after the surgery.

    Topamax- week one review

I read the OP's earlier posts just now. It appears that she has not had WLS and is not trying to get WLS. She is trying to lose enough weight to get a tummy tuck. Thought that might clear up some of the confusion.
  4. I'm in the middle of my 7th week post-op and back on solid food. I've gone to Jason's Deli a couple of times to have a cup of Soup for lunch. Just looking at all the food on everyone's plate makes me feel sick. It's really strange. I just can't stop wondering how they can eat so much at one time. I don't know how my mind has changed the way it sees food so quickly. Anyone else have this problem? I live alone so I really don't see others eating unless I go out for a meal.

    Has anyone lost 200+?

Yes, lot of people have. I have not got there yet but hope to lose close to 200 lbs myself.

Seeing large amounts of food make me feel sick

I just want to say once again to be clear that I am not judging what other are eating. I was just shocked that it actually makes me feel ill to look at that much food. I used to love to eat sandwiches from Jason's deli but now, the sight of them repulses me.
  7. I'm pretty sure that most people don't count produce as Water intake. At least, I have never heard of that before.

Why can I eat so much soup?

This is normal. And it is why it is important to stop drinking your meals once you get past the first two to three months.

Seeing large amounts of food make me feel sick

It's not that I care about how much anyone else is eating. It physically makes me feel sick to look at it. It's a minor problem and I'm sure it will pass. Just seems strange to me.

    Post Op Pain

I keep hearing about drain plugs. I didn't have any. Is that normal?

    Dumping 5 days post op

I have been using almond milk to make my Protein shakes for years. I was still having diarrhea three weeks post opt and it was getting worse and worse. Finally realized that it happened after I drank a shake. I bough some ready made shakes and haven't had a problem since. I know it wasn't the protein because I am able to mix it in with other foods just fine. I don't know why I can no longer drink almond milk.

    Pre-op diet for gastric sleeve.

I started feeling a lot better on the third day. Hope it works that way for you too. Also, it won't hurt to have an extra shake if you are really hungry.
  14. My doctor's office also advises us to get Protein from real food instead of shakes. If we have to, we can consume one shake a day. They don't want us to drink our calories and food will make us feel full longer. This doesn't apply right after surgery. Just once you get past the first 3 months of so.

    Scarring

Don't pick at the glue. Let it come off by itself. You shouldn't put anything on the incisions until they have completely healed.

    New job and surgery timing

I would do the surgery as scheduled. Recovery is usually quick and then it's a waiting game for the weight to come off.
  17. I understand your concern. It can be difficult to stick to the preop. But if you can just make it through the first three days, I promise it will get easier. The one thing that kept me on the diet was the thought that my doctor might not be able to complete the surgery if my liver had not shrunk enough. I was on a two week preop. During the second week, I had to keep reminding myself what was at stake when I was tempted to cheat. I just kept thinking about why I was doing all of this. Good luck. You can do it.

New body brings new partners -- many new partners

Just don't get into a committed relationship. Finish divorcing your husband and let your current partner know that you will not be having an exclusive relationship with them. I don't understand people who can't commit. But, it's even harder to understand why people that can't really commit start "exclusive" relationship or get married repeatedly. Just be honest.
  19. Even if everything had gone smoothly up until now, you would probably still be worried. It's normal to be worried about a major operation. So, try to keep some perspective. I definitely think this is not the time to trust your gut because mine said, "get the heck out of this bed before they cut you wide open". If you have concerns about the doctor, check his history. How many of these procedures has he performed? What is the rate of complications? Best of luck to you!
  20. You will be fine at 5 months out. Make plans and enjoy yourself.

Weird Pain ... started this morning

It only took me six weeks to get the surgery. I was self-pay and didn't haven't to follow any insurance rules. I delayed the initial hernia testing by two weeks to fit my own schedule. Guess I could have got it done quicker if I had not delayed the testing.

    I need help!

Have you tried CareCredit? https://www.mysynchrony.com/merchants/carecredit-login.html I ended up having to finance almost all of the costs through them. Not sure how I am going to pay it all off but I'm so glad I had the surgery. I am 5 weeks out and plan to start looking for a second job soon to help with the payments. Wish I could do more to help. Good luck.
  23. I was almost positive that I did not have a hiatal hernia. I had some heartburn from time to time but hadn't thought much about it. They repeatedly told me that almost everyone has one. They were right about me. It was small but it was there.
  24. My insurance does not cover any weight loss surgery. However, I also had a hernia that I didn't know about. So I had both procedures done at the same time. My insurance only covered the hernia repair. I ended up paying around $6,000 out of pocket for the sleeve. I was told that if I had the sleeve only, it would have cost me around $12,000. To find out if you have a hernia, they will preform an EGD. It's a simple, quick procedure. If I remember correctly, that cost me $635 after insurance payment.

To tell or not to tell...

I don't see anything wrong with not telling. I can say that I would rather not talk about it or it's personal. But when if I answer "dieting and exercising", I am purposely implying that is all that I did to lose weight and I consider that lying. The truth is that I also had surgery. If I could have done it with just dieting and exercising, I would not have opted for the surgery and I wouldn't have been obese most of my life. This is just how I feel. I know that others feel differently.
