  1. Happy New year! 2015 is just about in the books and was a good year for the Holland family and especially me! I'm down 30 pounds in 12 weeks and feel great about myself, instead of feeling miserable that I gained another 5-10 pounds over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

I look forward to 2016 and all the changes it has in store for me. I expect to not only see onederland but to reach my ultimate goal. I expect when I list my house on the market in he coming few weeks it will sell in a timely manner. When school is out June 3rd my 8 year old son and I will join my husband and 17 year old daughter in our 32foot RV until we find our dream house. And lastly I expect to start my new career as a teacher in the 2016-17 school year. Yes 2016 is going to be a good one!

My resolutions are simple... To enjoy life now, and not when I'm thinner and to get back to a regular exercise routine.

Usually my resolutions are to give up smoking and drinking (because I do neither it's simple ;) but these are simple too!

Be blessed with health and happiness in 2016 my friends!

  2. Tomorrow I will be eleven weeks post op. And through these weeks I've gone from being hungry every two hours and worried that I was over eating to not having an appetite or hunger pains at all. Only when I start to feel weak and shaky do I realize, I need to eat something. The problem lies in nothing sounds appealing.

Is anyone else having this issue?

  3. When you get an answer please share. Does everyone still have to have follow up appointment still? I went for my 8 week post op on Friday and my doctor told me that was my last appointment unless I have any problems. I was expecting many more, maybe because with the lap band I was always going for adjustment.

Wow, looks like So many different doctor follow up programs.

I go once a month for a year, and my doctor sits down and spends about 20 minutes every time talking to me about the foods I'm eating, and other concerns I have and gives me suggestions.

  4. Hi, everyone. Had my 2 week checkup. Been released to go back to work. Have lost 10 pounds since surgery. Not a huge amount but since I lost a lot on preop I am happy with it. I am getting my energy back and finally get to eat some meat! Overall I have had a great recovery and seem to tolerate everything I have tried so far. Am so glad to be on this side of surgery. Doing the happy dance.

That is super Marcia! Congrats and welcome to meat :)

    Titan-

You look great! How much did you lose in 6 months? I had my revision done October 5th and weight loss seems slower than the non-revisions. But at least I'm losing so no complaints... right! I also was a self pay

    Kaishey-

I agree with Titan.. Do it, you will not regret!

  6. I have tried to stay away from the scale once I hit 199. I keep my calories 600-650. I have no problems with drinking my Water though. I go for a two month check up tomorrow. So I will get an official weight then. Glad to see everyone is doing well.

@@marcia Happy to hear you are recovering well and on your way to better foods. It just keeps getting easier. :D

My surgeon told me to throw my scale away, but it is sooooo tempting to step on it every day. I stopped the everyday weighing though because my weight fluxuates and at times has stalled and it only disappoints me. I do get on once a week though ;) I do however see a difference in my cloths and have retired two sets of scrubs and am back into another set!

  7. Hi All!

So I got back from Vacation on the 14th and have been so busy that I forgot to update! Here's how my trip went...

I did a ton of walking and had a super hard time getting enough Water. However, I did carry a bottle with me at all times and drank while waiting in lines. I wore my Garmin Vivosmart the entire time and in 7 days I walked a grand total of 45 miles!! I still can't believe I walked that much, my feet however did believe it. lol

The food choices weren't as difficult as I thought they would be and Disney had a lot to offer that was healthy! Which made my life a lot easier!! I did cheat a little and have popcorn, but oh well. I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Since I walked so much, I had to make sure that I kept my Protein up. I could feel when I did not eat enough Protein. So my advice is to bring Jerky with you in your bag. I was on the Disney Dining plan, which of course was WAY too much food, but it came with our package for free. Now, I will say if its you and your husband I would get a Dining plan for your husband because we were able to split every single meal and both had plenty of food. I think that would save money plus no one would be starving! I did not ask for the children's buffet's since I had the dining plan, but honestly I doubt they would let you.

I had a super great time and slept like a rock every night! Oh and not to mention lost 10 pounds while on vacation! Not too shabby if I do say so myself! lol

I just got back from my WDW vacation on Saturday (11/28) and I am exhausted! My feet hurt and every muscle in my body aches (lol). I too, kept a water bottle in my hand at all times and loved that you could buy fruit at the little carts around the parks.

Regarding kid meals, I was able to purchase (no dining plan for me) kid meals for myself, the only exception was at the character meal we had they would not budge on that one.

  8. Hi Everyone!

I'm back from my Disney World vacation and I feel like I went 10 rounds in a boxing ring and lost.(Lol) I walked about 8 miles x 7 days with lots of standing in line for rides and attractions and lost 2.6 pounds. Every muscle in by body aches and my heels are painful to walk on.

One thing I'm sure of, without this surgery and my 20+ pound loss, I would have been miserable.

Now the countdown to Christmas break is on! Three more weeks :)

  9. Hi All,

I will be having gastric bypass late August to early September per my surgeon..

I already have a Disney World vacation planned and paid for in November. So that should put me 9-10 weeks out from surgery.I would like to know if anyone else has gone that soon after their surgery? Also, were you able to ride the rides just fine? I LOVE rides/roller coasters and will be sad if I can't ride.. We did get the FREE dining plan and I know there is no way I could ever eat as much food as that plan offers, but oh well. lol If you have any tips for me that would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

I'll be in DW the week of Thanksgiving. I'm wondering if the buffett would allow us to pay a child's price.

  10. I had my first 4 week checkup yesterday. Down 17.4 pounds since surgery, I was kinda bummed that it wasn't more. He told me to throw away my scale, that I should be judging my weight loss by how my clothes fit and how I feel and that he doesn't pay much attention to the amount that has been lost in a month, he only uses the scale to see a trend.

I told him I was limiting soft foods like yogurt and refried Beans because I felt like I could eat more than I should (4-5 ounces).

He told me he was not a big fan of yogurt but if I like it it was ok to eat, but consider it a liquid and not a solid. Concerning beans he told me they are a GREAT food to eat and 4 ounces was not a problem. Then I talked about the calories in 4 ounces and told me He is not concerned about me counting calories, but making good food choices and exercising 30 min a day.

I asked about carbohydrates, he said most of them have no great nutritional value, like a potato. Most people only eat the inside and discard the skin where most of the nutrients are. Then I asked about bread, he said he prefers us to eat non wheat products. Then I asked about rice again he said white rice has most of the nutrients stripped and of course brown rice was better, but all of these on occasion are fine.

With all that having been said, after more than 50 years of programing to count calories and the overwhelming desire to get on the scale at least once a week, this is one thing I probably will not be able to comply with, besides only days ago I bought a new scale to go with my new watch/activity tracker :)
