Good luck! I haven't posted In a while. I had surgery on October 15, 2015 so I am about 5 months post op. Highest weight 289. Surgery weight 280. Current weight 214 and still losing about 2lbs a week. My goal is 200-205, so I am not far off and haven't been to my 6 month checkup yet. (I do understand that my goal is less than most others so I take that into consideration). I got worried because I wasn't eating much at all, but my surgeon said to try to increase calories. Also I hadn't been running at all in the last 2 months because I had leg pain but the weight keep coming off, just slower. I'm walking again before I start running since daylight savings time changed I can get it in. I often don't know what to eat. It's funny, but I can't just eat something because it's there. I get hunger pains, but even then I don't really want to eat. I'm happy with the weight loss. I'm ecstatic about the lifestyle change. I eat to live....I no longer live to eat. This was the hardest thing I had done in my life and it was not easy. Challenges continue and will forever. But the process has taught me that you can be in control of your life. @@60&goin4it I must applaud your kindness and updates about your progress. You are the glue that keeps everyone together. This is an ancient thread -- started in 2011. I'd not seen it until this morning.
Boy, there sure is a lot of ignorance out there about what WLS will / can do for you. I blame this on some doctors, "obesity specialists" (whatever the hell those are), and especially on bariatric nutritionists who don't seem to know squat about what WLS involves. Seriously ... although all the other members of my bariatric surgeon's practice are wonderful, the two nutritionists I've dealt with are more than worthless.
If anyone's still reading this thread, here's my experience with WLS:
    1. Yes, you can lose all your excess weight loss. I have, and hundreds of people who've posted here have.
    2. Yes, you can maintain your excess weight loss. Many people here who are farther out than me (15+ months) have done so, and they are my role models.
    3. IMHO, the most important factor that influences your weight loss and maintenance is your commitment to doing what you have to do to make that happen.
Yes, life's stresses happen to us all. They never stop -- there are more to come. Just listen to this: Two months after my WLS my beloved husband was diagnosed with cancer. Two months after that our dear dog died. A month later, my son's eldest son died. And just two weeks ago my husband's father died. And last weekend my own dear mother died.
I'm fortunate that I'm nearly 70 years old and have already learned a few things in life. One of the things I know is that, compared to the other things life throws at us, losing my excess weight and maintaining that weight in the last 15+ months was one of the very few things I actually could control.
I don't know if everyone can control their own resolve and resilience. But I encourage the newbies here to do what you can to ramp up those qualities in yourself as you travel this journey. That may include getting yourself into therapy / counseling to help you get to the finish line and beyond.
This is your life. And no one but you can create it.

True. What I'm trying to say is don't go in with the mindset of "I want to lose x amount, but statistically I'll probably only lose xx amount." Thats setting yourself up for only losing 65%! This game is mental more than anything and our minds can manifest outcomes!! Go in fully confident in yourself committed to doing what it takes to get to your goal weight.
I've seen many more people here achieving goal weight than not.

Thank you @@60&goin4it!! You are the glue that keeps this group together. We are blessed to have you. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I'm doing well too since surgery October 15th. It still amazes me the changes since then. Losing weight, needing new clothes, being energetic, confident, humble, and sociable. Incredible. We have so much to be thankful for this Christmas! Thankful for others, even those who were negative about our choice for surgery and for those who may not be so happy that we are losing weight. Those are the ones who (subconsciously) push us the hardest. Merry Christmas!!

I tried that small Protein "shot" too. It was a bit too sweet for me to stomach, but lots of protein in a small bottle.

Success! Ish... I finally found a Protein Drink that I can mostly tolerate. New Whey Protein Shots. 42g of Protein in 3.5oz.
Sounds awesome, right? Lots of protein, little bitty drink...but it's like drinking liquid jolly ranchers. Sickeningly sweet and a little syrupy thick.
I was unsure about this drink, it's got mixed reviews, but my nutritionist says it's good and acceptable for us.
Now for the real fun...I have to plug my nose to drink it and it still makes me feel all gassy and weird. But...but...I actually hit my protein goal for the first time since surgery!

I am in here reading everyday, but I don't post as much as before surgery. I am doing well. Had surgery on October 15th. My highest weight was 289. I was 280 before pre-op, 272 at surgery, and am now 239. I am eating ok, and sometimes hit goal on liquids, but always manage to hit the Protein goals as of lately. Strange because I was drinking over 90 ounces a day before surgery...
Otherwise, nothing too eventful here. Keeping up with the exercise every other day, and trying to eat whenever I can although I am not hungry very often. Hopefully I will have some before and after pictures to share. Viewing other people's before and after photos are very motivational. Everyone looks very good.
