I know there are a lot of Protein powder recommendations on this site, but I'm looking specifically for things available in the UK? I'm looking at protein works at the moment, has anyone tried their products? i'm looking for an unflavoured version I can put into soups/broth etc, and probably a flavoured one just for drinking that doesn't taste completely terrible?

I have my surgery booked for Feb 2nd, and I'm also going to Prague to do it. I'm flying out Jan 31st and coming back Monday 8th, so depending on where you're going/when you're arriving we may overlap.

Sorry to always be complaining, but for the last month or so I haven't been able to answer any posts on the app. It just says 'you have reached the end of the thread' and doesn't give me an option to reply anywhere like it used to.

I did a search on pintrest and lots of options came up if that helps at all.

I don't have any sort of pre-op diet. I have my tests to check I'm Ok for surgery the day before (which have to be done on an empty stomach) and then can't eat/drink anything after midnight that night for surgery the next morning.

I'm February 2nd!

Hi everyone, I'm planning on having the sleeve surgery done and I ws wondering how long a process it is from start to surgey (approximately, assuming no major problems). I'm from near Birmingham in the UK, but I mostly work abroad and will be finishing my contract in Indonesia next June (2016). I want to have my sleeve done and then I was planning to start looking for a new positon in the new year so I could have time to recover, spend with family and have a Christmas at home. How far in advance should I realistically be planning this? Also, I'm considering going to Brussels to get my surgery done as the level of care seems high/doctors seem experienced but it's cheaper than the UK; does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Surgery twins! I'm also Feb 2nd. I just booked my flights and hotel this morning so I'm excited and nervous.

My surgery is February 2nd, I'm getting kind of nervous now that I have nothing to do but wait.

I'm doing my surgery abroad so I don't have any aftercare included back home (If I have any major problems I can go back and they will help/fix it for free, but I have to fly to get there). Well, after some searching online I think I may have found a clinic that will do aftercare with me even though I have not done my surgery with them. I don't know the price, I've just emailed an inquiry to them about it, but they're located in Bromsgrove, which accorded to google maps is only about 20 mins drive from my family's place. I've been telling myself it's OK, that I've done my research and I have the forums to ask, and that if the worst happens the NHS have a duty of care to treat me, but I don't think I realised how worried I was about this until I found the site. Feeling a lot better now.

The numbness is more an issue if you still have it, that requires a doctor. I had knee pain for a long time, then when I moved to my new school/apartment was doing six flights of stairs to get to each class and to my apartment. After three weeks my knee couldn't take it and I woke up with numbness all down one side of my upper leg and unable to walk, I had to go for physiotherapy. The treatment wasn't difficult and may not affect your surgery, but you do need to talk to your doctor about it. It's important to get to the bottom of why and the longer you leave it the more trouble it's going to cause you, both physically and in terms of your surgery.

There are lots of reasons you could get cramps, including things like dehydration and mineral depletion (which if you're on the pre-op diet I'm guessing could apply to you?), but it is something I would talk to your doctor about as if it's caused by something else (inadequate blood flow to the muscle for example) that's something the doc needs to be aware of. Better safe than sorry.

At this point, having already gained the weight I would say there's no point freaking out. Do your best to lose, but it is what it is right? Has your surgeon told you to stay at a particular weight?

No, No and no. We have GPs (General Practitioner, like your PCPs I think?), and I am registered with my local NHS one in the UK, but as I am often out of the country I very rarely go to the surgery for anything other than pre-travel shots and tests for visas. When I'm actually sick I get an appointment and it can be with any of the doctors in there, none of which really know me from Adam. I haven't notified them because I haven't returned to the UK yet, but if I get my aftercare from a private clinic I may not see my GP at all while I'm home. If I get sick and am at the doctor of course I'll get them to update my records with the fact as it's important that they know. Doctors in the UK generally REALLY frown on you going outside the UK for surgery, some people even have issues where they've had surgery done privately (non-NHS) in the UK and gone to their GP for simple things like getting their stitches out and been refused. I don't have any reason to think my doctor would be supportive so I've decided to burn that bridge when I get to it (if I do). I don't have any co-morbidities from my weight. The only other health problem I've had to do with it at all is joint/foot pain, which was helped by some physiotherapy at the local hospital where I am now, but I think my knee problem may have been landing on it a bit too hard when I was crawling around with my kindergarten class in China, which was then not helped by my weight. I've sent an email and will give them a call after the holdays, my surgery isn't until Feb 2nd so I have January to get details and costs. Chances are after 6 months I'll have another job elsewhere in the world, so I just want to have support while I'm finding my feet and make sure I'm setting myself up for success when I'm away on my own (and that I have a copy of all my medical stuff to take with me out of the country)

Hi everyone, this news report was on yahoo.co.uk today and I'd thought I'd share it. I know quite a few people on here try vaping to reduce/stop their smoking habit before surgery, so just be careful to check the ingredients of the ones you use! (NB: Obviously news sites want you to click on the article, so I'm uncertain as to the accuracy of their sources, but definitely worth checking regardless). Article here

Excuse me for the late reply, just realised I had answers here. Vaping is a lot safer than cigarettes, of that I have no doubt, the article is just advising caution with some flavours as certain ingredients can cause complications. If you're smoking, vaping is a better option. If you're vaping some of the flavours mentioned, you may want to switch. I wouldn't call that bullshit or fanatical.

I sent them an email asking and they didn't elaborate, but it seems very strange? I've ordered the pills anyway, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to take them if I can't eat/drink anything before surgery?
