I have lost inches and not much in the way of pounds...
-
First off, many congrats on your weight loss! I'm a month out and I've been down a few pounds only to gain it back. I do weigh daily. I know if I got up off of my can and did some aerobics, I would drop the weight. You have inspired me. I get my first fill Oct. 4. Thanks for posting.

What foods can't you eat?
dm5201 replied to tle5000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm moving into regular foods. All surgeons are different. It was thin liquids, then mushy, then soft foods, and regular diet. By the way, the thin crust pizza went down well... I see you are presugery according to your profile... -
Losing weight without a fill.
dm5201 replied to CJZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You all are just amazing! I was having problems eating, but I think I have that under control. I did notice that if I consumed a few more calories that I'd lose. However, no where near what you all are losing! I'm happy for you... -
What foods can't you eat?
dm5201 replied to tle5000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm noticing that I have problems eating. I did manage to eat 2 slices of thin crust pizza if I took very small bites and ate slowly. Otherwise, I believe I'm still taking larger bites than I'm suppose to and I get stuck. I haven't ventured out to many foods yet because of that reason. I did manage to have a slice of rye bread with some butter on it one evening, but tried again another evening and it wasn't going down well. I just have to be very careful... -
Confused and bummed about apnea

Have you had another full night sleep study? -
I had surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work on the following Monday. I think I was exceptional because I came right out of anesthesia wide awake and had minimal gas pain. I felt really good the following days after surgery. However, I also have a desk job, which made going back to work easy.

Scared...Surgeon wont call back

I also think I would not have been massaging my incisions...just my opinion. -
I do two to three eggs. Two eggs is usually enough for me and that's if I can get it all down. There are times that I have been really hungry and prepared three eggs, but felt so stuffed.

I'm nearing the eating regular food phase and have experimented some. I think I'm going to have to stick to the basics for a while because no matter how much I chew, I've gotten stuck. Perhaps it's the bite size. Even though I think I'm taking a small bite, it must need to be smaller. This is certainly an experiment. I manage to make it to the stool, bend over, and give it a good cough and the offending food comes up in a large amount of saliva. After that, I feel great and just give up on eating. I hate that feeling of the continued swallowing and gulping knowing the food is just stuck near the sterum and it's just got to go.

Hi All, It's been several days since I have posted. I have gained and lost the same 5 lbs. for the past two weeks. I have to remember to eat slowly and really watch what I eat or I have some real problems that I have to take care of. I have got to remember to take in a load of protein each day. I have seriously forgotten aleady about the protein. I think it'll definitely help with the weight loss. It looks like everyone else is doing pretty well. My next appointment is October 4 and I hope I get some more fluid in the band. There was a small amount that was added during during my surgery. Otherwise, I feel really good and ready to buy some new clothes!

I'm learning too that I eat too fast or drink fluids to quickly. I feel it in the mid-chest, and then more and more air and saliva. The only way I can get immediate relief is to purge. I know that's not a good practice, but it works for immediate relief.

I am 8 days post-op. I have no regrets. Surgery was easy. I came out wide awake. Eating too fast is a habit of mine that I now have to break. The consequences can be painful for a few minutes. I'm taking it a day at a time and looking forward to the future.

Is the AP-Standard Lap-Band the 10cc band? -
I'm banded everybody! I was banded Tuesday. I feel pretty good. I did have a large hiatal hernia that he had to repair. I do have a sore throat, along with a swollen uvula. After surgery, I did have some gas in my left shoulder and left side, but it has now gone. I just feel like I've done an ab work out! I came out of surgery and was wide awake, I didn't have to sleep it off the anesthesia. I plan on returning to work on Monday.

Two days until surgery! The pre-op diet got easier and easier. Two protein shakes a day and a Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones for dinner.

BeachBunny and NightNurse, post a play-by-play when you get a chance! Love reading those surgery day stories! Best wishes, Donna

Yeyy!! Im so Excited! Getting banded on Aug. 25th!
dm5201 replied to Jerseydiva15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JerseyDiva, my surgery is the 24th and I'm getting nervous! I'm concerned about adhesions and scar tissue in my abdomen from previous abdominal surgeries. I've got my fingers crossed and praying that it's not an open procedure. My sugery isn't until 1:30 in the afternoon and I have to be at the surgery center at 10:30. I suppose if it's in case the previous surgery gets done earlier. I'm having this done out-patient. -
I must say, it does get a bit easier as you get through the first week. I did cheat badly last weekend and opened my pie hole and told the NP that and she chewed me out! I'm not going to cheat this weekend. I get banded on the 24th. I'll stick with my protein drink for breakfast and lunch and my Weight Watchers meal or Lean Cuisine for dinner...

What kind of Protein Shakes??????
dm5201 replied to Starting Over 2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm half-way through my two-week pre-op diet. I've been drinking Atkins Advantage mocha latte shakes in the morning and then the EAS brand at lunch. I prefer the vanilla over the chocolate because the chocolate leaves a funky after taste. However, I will drink it if I have it. -
Im banded!!!! - August Rush 2010
dm5201 replied to shadena32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shadena, thanks for your continuing posts! Glad to see that you are feeling better each day. Did you tell people you work with that you were going to be "banded"? Wow, 31 pounds is like 2 sizes down! -
5 more days for me before I'm banded! Yea, for me!

Hello all! I will be banded the 24th and so counting down the days! I have to be at the surgery center at 10:30 a.m. for a 1:30 pm surgery! I may not get home until later in the evening. I'm on a two-week high protein diet with two shakes during the day and a light meal for dinner. I'm down a few pounds but cheated miserably over the weekend. I'm sticking to it this week and not cheating. Two years ago I had the Realize Band for 48 hours and then had some complications from a lacerated small intestine from the surgery. Subsequently, I had the band removed and had to have extensive small bowel resection and spent a week in the hospital. Here I am now, healed up from that and will be Lap-Banded the 24th of this month. I am having some deep anxiety about it, but I have a great surgeon and will place all of my trust in him.

Did anyone have to have the open procedure instead of the laproscopic? If so, what was the reason for the open procedure.
