Cigna Approval Questions
Good morning! I have Cigna Open Access Plus. I had to have a 3-month (90 days) supervised diet with either my PCP or a Nutritionist. I started with my PCP, but ultimately did the full 3 months (90 days) with my nutritionist. Once she gives the report of the 3 months diet it has to state in every appointment your weight, diet being used (mine was mindful eating) and exercises being done. This is IN ADDITION to the Nutritional evaluation. With my plan I could NOT gain not even an ounce. Any weight loss was OK. All I can say is that they are SUPER picky and must have all they asked for, exactly how they asked for it or you will get denied. Happened to me twice in a week until my surgeon did a P to P with them and then I was approved in 5 minutes. I would say either start fresh with your PCP letting him know EXACTLY what needs to go into the report for the diet notes (you can find this in your plan coverage online on their website) OR continue with the person you started it with and then will only need to do the remaining 3 apts. Feel free to contact me if you need anything further. Good luck!

My file is in "Review" with Cigna!
That was the first letter I received and then two denials and now finally approved after a 5 minute peer to peer with my surgeon!!! Don't give up!!!!

Denied.
Please don't give up! I've been on a roller coaster ride for the last 5 months of this process and I can tell you I'm very very happy I didn't give up!! I was denied 2 xs in a week until my dr did a peer to peer and they approved me in less than 5 minutes of him calling them!

Not tolerating protein shakes. Thrush. Nausea
oh, no! ((((hugs)))) I've heard (especially on Youtube from I think it's Finding Elizabeth) that she got thrush right after surgery. Her doctor gave her some antibiotics for it. I agree with the others I think the hydration is key in everything else working out. I'm lactose intolerant now and only drink Lactaid milk so I'm hoping to be able to tolerate that afterwards. I hope you get some relief soon.

What would you have done differently? (prepping for surgery)
I'm officially starting my prep tomorrow. It's my 1st pre-op apt with surgeon's office after getting approval and this is when I make my pre-op class and tests schedules. If you had the chance to do it over and plan differently, what would you have done differently for pre-op preparing for the actual surgery, for your hospital stay and for the 1st week at home? TIA!

I thought I would neverrr hear the words...
...Elizabeth, you're approved!!! Oh em gee! I couldn't believe it! When I saw the surgeon's # on my phone I was SO scared to answer! LOL The coordinator told me the Peer to Peer lasted 5 minutes and then Cigna approved it!!! I'm going to leave out the roller coaster ride of the last 48 hrs, but let's just say I *almost* gave up! I was so disheartened when I learned last Friday that I did not have an approval when I thought I did. Then on Monday to hear that I was denied for missing info, then .... blah blah blah. Please just don't give up. Don't lose hope...I almost did and now I'm very happy I didn't. So still on for November 5th. Granted, that all pre-op tests come back OK

Had a dinner party Sunday night to Celebrate my daughter's 21st bday. Had family and like family friends over. This is the first time my surgery was discussed openly in a group setting. It wasn't really by choice, more as a result of big-mouthed folk. Bless them. Here are just some of the comments I received: Oh, so you're taking the easy short cut way? My friend had WLS...he almost died. It was terrible. You do know that you can gain it all back, right? You'll never be able to eat "right" again. The recovery is terrible. Why don't you "just " exercise You don't need surgery...just start drinking a lot of Water. I just smiled and nodded. Yep, Smile and nodded. I love them. My family. Lord, deliver me.
