    Bariatric eating

    Thank you.

    May bypass group!

I am scheduled for May 23rd.
  3. So, in two weeks I will meet with my NUT for the sixth, and final, time. I have not lost any weight. She says that I am doing fine making small changes and getting ready for surgery. However, the bottom line is that my eating has not really changed. My question is, will I be successful AFTER surgery, if I haven't been totally committed BEFORE surgery?
  4. @WLSResources/ClothingExch - Thank you for your answer. I was expecting someone to tell me that I would be the only person that could truly answer my question. Thank you for giving me some concrete advice in how to do this. Writing down the reasons, I began this journey is a good place for me to start. It actually started a year ago when I began walking 8-12 miles a week and began experiencing chronic back pain due to my weight. I was also attending Weight Watchers at the time. Eating on plan, I was always hungry all the time. Which brings me to the comments from @James Marusek. Thank you for your comments! These last few years, I have dieted with hunger. I am hoping that with the WLS this element will disappear, as long as I follow the other tools that I am learning about.

    February sleevers!

@, I messaged you but don't know if you received it?

    February sleevers!

I'm not scheduled yet, either, but it looks like I might be ready in February.
  7. I'm 55 and will be 56 by the time I have surgery, Lord willing, in February. I always wanted to lose weight in the past, so that I would look better. I've been in the diet cycle, lose-gain, since 7th grade. This is the first time I can honestly say that I want to lose weight to FEEL better. I want to hike, walk, and move without the back pain that I know comes from carrying too much weight.

What do you eat in a day?

@@LipstickLady, I've been hearing so many people discuss their low carb, low fat meals, that I was glad to hear you mention your low carb, high fat preference. It seems like you would have more choices. My NUT said think Paleo or Atkins. Anyway, I'm glad it seems to be working for you.
  9. @@Skywalker, thank you for your post. I've been looking for a protein powder and the comments on your post gave me a good place to start.
  10. Can anyone tell me how many grams of protein a day is suggested for after surgery?
  11. Does any one have any suggestions for a good protein drink for after surgery? Was just introduced to Tasty Whey and Eat The Bear brands at a little store. They didn't have any samples to try. Looking for what has worked for YOU.
  12. Thank you, @catwoman7. True, about the different answers. But it gives me someplace to start and, hopefully, weeds out anything that might be downright yucky. Lol.
  13. Thank you, @@Grace2115! Didn't even know there was a bariatric pantry. Good to have that resource and to know where to get samples.
  14. Hi there! I am hoping to have gastric bypass in February. I have a good support group, though most family and friends seem a bit skeptical with comments like, "You know a lot of people gain the weight back." You know people can have complications after the surgery." "If you can't lose weight (and keep it off) NOW, what makes you think you can with the surgery?" I hope to educate those closest to me. I won't worry about those who aren't. Wondering how some of you have dealt with comments like these?

    Hello?

    Hello?

Sounds like you're doing great! So glad to hear your vitamin levels are good. Did you have surgery in the Springs? Do you mind if I ask how old you are? Do you have a lot of support?
  18. Following the thread....

    Hello?

@@mskami77, I had my initial consultation with my doctor on August 27th and my first visit with NUT the beginning of September. How are you doing with everything now?
  20. cheri02

    What do you drink?

My favorite drink, after saying good-bye to Diet Coke is a strawberry/kiwi drink with Splenda from melaleuca.com. A lot like crystal lite...but better!
  21. I have not had surgery yet, but on my journey toward making a decision I met with my GI doctor to get his advice. I had been pretty set on the sleeve, but he told me that he would not trust the sleeve because it doesn't have the medical history behind it that the gastric bypass has.

    DENIED...help!

@@bncbabe2015, that was pretty much my experience too. I finally decided to just take one step at a time to see how things unfold. I truly hope things work out for you!

    DENIED...help!

Please keep us posted. I have Independent Blue Cross Blue Shield. Every time I called to request information regarding the 6 month monitored diet, I never got a straight answer.
  24. @@OKCPirate, I just downloaded this book onto my kindle and started reading. Excellent resource! THANK YOU!
