    Post op struggle.

How could you only get 300 calories a day? I can eat a lot. Perhaps my sleeve isn't as small as others ? I don't know. I got very little instruction about a diet. My one appointment with the dietitian consisted of her handing me some papers and telling me she was late for her dentist appointment. I was not given a protein goal. Fortunately, a good friend of mine is a dietitian and I got some guidance from her yesterday and she gave me some suggestions. I'm just trying to figure this all out. Thanks for the advice.

Okay thank you .. I will try to get in the protein and cut some calories. I haven't been drinking enough water - so I will work on that also.

    Post op struggle.

I had my surgery on 10/8. I am also having a hard time. My doctor instructed 3 weeks of full liquids but didn't really specify what liquids to eat. He was specific about what to eat when I started regular food but not the liquids. When you are so limited to what foods you can eat it is hard. I am so sick of sweet stuff !! I lost 5 lbs in the first week and apparently I am not making the best choices since I haven't lost anything in the last 6 days or so. The soups I have been eating have not been low calorie but I am only eating a small amount of them. I can't really figure out why I'm not loosing though because I am tracking my calories and don't get more than 800-900 calories a day. Today I had a protein shake for breakfast, some protein oatmeal for a snack. Soupy refried beans with salsa for lunch and some potato soup for dinner. Am I doing something wrong ? I got 48 grams of protein.. What do y'all think ?

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Thank you - I will try that one. Every time I try to blend it the drink gets all foamy !! Maybe it's the milk I am using ?

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Hi Amber, I haven't been sleeved yet but started trying different protein preparations in advance. The one I have found that has the best taste and packs the most punch is Premier Protein-30 grams. Comes in 3 flavors-chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. I get it at Sam's. But it's available at Walmart etc. Cold is best! Also, try an unflavored protein powder. That way anything that you blend with (crystal light, broth, etc.) it will take on that flavor. Good luck!
  6. I lost about 15 lbs before surgery. I have actually started loosing now - it must have just been retained fluid from surgery. Thank you

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Hello all!! I am a nurse in central Florida. I've been a nurse for 8 years, first as a bedside nurse on a surgical unit, then team leader and most recently manager. I was just sleeved on 10/8. I am still on liquids and having a hard time with the protein. It is so thick and gives everything a funny taste. I don't like yogurt so the only thing I really enjoy that has protein is my instant breakfast. After two weeks of pre-op I am having a hard time stomaching the protein shakes!! I went in GNC the other day for some suggestions on how to get the protein in and to look at the Isopure stuff. The guy that worked there was such a jerk- do you ever feel like if you were skinnier you would get much better service? So I am still confused on how to get protein in being on full liquids.. Anyone have any suggestions? I am looking forward to starting my journey - glad I found some nurses to share it with !!
  8. I had my surgery on Thursday 10/8. I weighed myself today for the first time thinking I would have lost at least 5 lbs or so.. And I lost 1 lb!! I am really disappointed. How can I not loose more than that after 3 days of clear liquids? I start full liquids tomorrow and I am so happy!! I cannot stomach the idea of broth, juice or jello!! I did notice yesterday I could barely get my wedding ring on - so I must have been swollen from surgery. Anyone else having this problem ? How soon does the weight start coming off ? I want to see some results already !!

    Who Are You?

I am Amber. I am married to my wonderful husband and have a 14 year old daughter. I am a nurse on a surgical unit in Lakeland, FL. I have been heavy since I was in 4th grade. I am the only heavy person in my family, I mean the ONLY one. I feel like my weight has always held me back from life. I didn't go to my senior prom because I felt like I was to heavy to look good in a dress, and have always steered clear of family events because I didn't want my skinny family whispering about how much weight I have gained. I had a lap band place in 2008 and lost about 40lbs. After I got married I gained it all back plus another 20lbs. I had the lap band removed in May and had the sleeve 2 days ago. I am on Clear liquids for another day and pretty miserable. I have had quite a bit of pain, especially gas pains. Hoping it will get better soon. I am excited to start my journey.

    Clear liquid post-op

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Nothing clear liquid seems appetizing to me at all!! How long do you have to do clears ? Fortunately I only have one more day after today, then I can have full liquids.
  11. My surgery was Thursday, 10/8 and I am on clear liquids until Monday. I keep hearing people say that they aren't hungry and I am worried because I do feel hungry. I drink a little clear liquid and am hungry again a few minutes later. Is that normal ? I was looking forward to not being hungry.

    Oct 7th date - nervous

My surgery is Oct.8. I am getting really nervous !! I've been on pre-op diet since last Thursday and have been really bad the last 2 days. I feel so guilty but it is really hard !! I am getting back on my shakes tomorrow and going to finish strong. It is scary to think that I will never be able to eat "normally" again. Which certainly isn't a bad thing - but I'm addicted to food !! It is hard to let it go!
