  1. Best thing about the experience - TriCare covered the surgery 100%. I didn't have to pay one dime to anyone and they took very good care of me. Worst thing about the surgery - the pain afterwards....
  2. I have a 2 year old, and a 1 year old. My mom had them at her house the first week and a half after surgery, then stayed the weekend with me, and now I'm all on my own (with my husband). Let me just say, that I'm not prepared for all the bending and lifting...i just physically can't do it. My recovery has been slower than some. I had a large hernia repair along with the wls so maybe that's why? I'm not sure. My surgery was December 29th, and I can't pick up either of my girls for another week. I'm not sure how this will go, but it is what it is. If you can... I'd have help with your little ones for at least 3 weeks, or until you can pick them up yourself.
  3. I had surgery on December 29th. My weight was 223. I'm 214 as of this morning. I'm freaking out, I tried for like 6 months- hard core diet - and I was able to lose like 14 pounds in that time. The fact that almost ten has slipped off in 2 weeks is AMAZING. There's no way I'll be over 200 for long now. You should be celebrating your 15 pound victory girl!! 15 freaking pounds is like 6 months of weight watchers/gym work. Lol!! Congratulations!!!!! You already know what to do... Get that water/protein in. We're not well enough yet to hit the gym. Walk if you can, but don't be upset by your "slow weight loss" you're doing amazing...

    4 days post op... Thoughts?

Yes, if all this pain now means a lifetime with out pain from heartburn, walking, soreness from being over weight... Then I'll take it now.

    4 days post op... Thoughts?

I had my surgery on December 29th, and I thought I'd be doing fabulous at this point. Nope. I had a major hernia repair at the same time as my bypass, so I guess I'm not just going to bounce back right away. I'm very swollen and tender on my left side of my abdomen. I am passing gas, but no bm yet. I'm on medicine to help that along, but so far... It's not happened. I also get super sweaty for no reason at all. Maybe it's a weird redaction to surgery or the pain meds? I'm frustrated because my friend who had the bypass the same day as I did is doing great, and I still feel like crap on a stick.

When in is it safe to have a drink?

I was told no alcohol for 6 months... Then only low sugar, low carb drinks. I know they sell "skinny" drinks...
  7. I got my surgery on the 29th, and it looks like I'll be going home tomorrow. The doctors are very focused on me getting all my liquids in. I can already do puree stage, but I'm not doing that yet. Just water and protein shakes for this gal.

    360+ pounds?!? help!

If you want the bypass, then go for it! I mean, there's no way for her to check which surgery you got... It's all inside you. Lol.

    people not educating themselves

"."? Shouldn't periods be discussed in the "Female Only" forum? Hahaha!!! I had a lot more written then I decided to delete it. It was too negative and judgmental. I'm not here to bash anyone, we get that enough in the real world. Who cares how many times someone asks the same question over and over? I mean, we've all struggled at some point, right? So, I decided to edit my post to nothing because I don't want to be shaming the very same people who are in my very same boat. Must've been on my period when I wrote the original.
  10. I'm going through all the pre-op fun. I've got my nutrition classes scheduled, my EGD scheduled, and I'm waiting on the psych consolation to be scheduled. My surgeon said that I'm a great candidate, and he doesn't see a reason for my surgery not to happen in December. Anybody else getting surgery through a military base? I'm also really interested in their plastic surgery department for a tummy tuck down the line (super far away from that I know), because I'm a planner. I was wondering if anyone knows the out of pocket expense for that?
  11. I already can't wait for my tummy tuck! Lol. I'll have had a total of 8 appointments I had to come to the hospital for plus lab work, which I did on another appointment day. Then I have the 3-7 day stay at the hospital, then the follow ups and follow up nutrition class. I've had: Meeting with doctor in a group Meeting with Dr one on one (same day as group) 2 nutrition classes Lab work EGD (an outpatient surgery they look into your stomach beforehand) Pre-Op appointment Lab work Psychological evaluation Anesthesiologist appointment Then actual surgery this coming December 29th I had a friend who also had to do a follow up appointment with the same doctor. I'm sure you can get some of the appointments scheduled the same days as others so you can make fewer visits. The whole process has been very very simple, they don't require a 6 month diet program like some places do, and everything is totally free (except food and vitamins). My journey began in October, and the thing that took the longest is actually waiting for the surgeon to have an open day in his schedule. It's awesome. Best of luck to you.

Did anyone go to surgery alone.

I'm going to be dropped off, the hubby will be at work and my kids will be at my mom's house for a week. I'm actually really looking forward to the mini vacation stay at the hospital. Hahaha. Haven't had that much time to myself since I had babies. I'm going to enjoy every second. My hubby will come by to visit, but I wouldn't expect him to stay 24/7.

  16. I'm having gastric bypass at the end of December - December 29th. I'm really nervous about being on my pre Op diet for Christmas, but I've enjoyed too much food every other Christmas so I hope it'll be just fine. I'm glad I won't have to recover and miss Christmas so the 29th is awesome. Best. Gift. Ever.

    Only 75-80 pounds to lose

I myself have "only" 70-80 pounds to lose, and have my surgery scheduled for December 29th. I don't know where I'll be when I'm done losing in terms of weight, but I DO know I'll be at less risk for heart attack ect. I know that on my own, without the surgery, it's very unlikely I'll be able to lose weight, and keep it off, for life - on shear will power alone. So, I'm having gastric bypass - and if in a few years I regret it for whatever reason, it's reversible.
